A Trip to Fright Fest
The feeling of fear filled Holly Steward with excitement as she approached the gates to Six Flags for Fright Fest, the Annual celebration of all things Halloween at the park. She knows how fun it has been in the past and is aware of how they’ve amped up both the fun and fear factors with each year she as gone.
“Yeah, I’m excited,” said Holly Steward, a Wesley student who plans on attending the trip. “I like to see the scary people and the acting has gotten better over the years.” Steward attends the trip for the feeling of fear that comes about when the many people in costume jump out and scream to do just that, cause fear. But when it comes to the rides her fear keeps her at bay. “I ride all the roller coasters except King-Da-Ka which is too scary,” said Steward. The fear factor is wheat draws people to Six Flags at Halloween time. Nathan Bryant, a local to Dover and student at Del-Tech explained as to why. “It’s the idea of being scared and going through attractions specifically meant to try and frighten me that draws me in,” said Bryant. “I’ve never gone,” said James Poole another Wesley student who plans to go. “ I am excited to go because I’ve never been and I like going to new places.” Poole isn’t in it for the fear he’s excited o try something new and see what it’s like. The trip is something that has been going on for years and will probably continue in the future.
“It is an annual trip and we will continue to do it as long as people are asking us to,” Cheyenne Lazarus, the head of the SAB had this to say when asked about the trip. “Last year we had 150 tickets and it sold out. This year since we had more money we decided to get 300 and we currently have 100 students signed up to go.”
The trip that usually sells out seems to be on its way to selling out once more even with the higher amount of tickets. This trip was almost replaced with one to Frightland but things just didn’t go through when planning that trip.
“You could only buy the tickets online and we are required to have a contract when we do it so that just ended up not working out,” said Lazarus.
It did seem that there was some trouble with finding enough chaperones to have one on each bus for the trip since the SAB was still searching at the time of the interview.
“We have six buses and we need one on each bus,” said Lazarus.
With a more students attending it takes more people to keep track of them across the whole amusement park.
“A lot of students ask for it (the trip), its something they love,” said Rose Bondo who was assisting Cheyenne Lazarus at the SAB’s sign up table for the trip. “It will probably sell out because it is cheaper than them going by themselves.”
