The author of “A Truth about Korean Skincare from a Korean Dermatologist,” Yoon-Soo Cindy Bae, believes that the effort- draining skin care routine is beneficial for those who yearn for flawless skin. Whether Yoon-Soo’s article is considered convincing or not is determined entirely on the audience. Yoon-Soo has included little evidence and her article is not structured very well, nevertheless, she argues that a multi-step skin care regimen may be a good investment. To enhance her argument, she applies her mother’s experience and a supporting quote from a clinical dermatologist.
The purpose of this article is to briefly explain to readers why they should follow the Korean multi-step skin care regimen along with the expected benefits. Yoon-Soo first starts off the article by detailing how flawless and superb Korean women’s skin are due to their hyper skin care practices. She then proceeds to note that, “studies have shown that Korean women spend more money on skin care products compared to dermatologic procedures.” She is suggesting that the extra money spent is how Korean women achieve their beautiful glowing skin. Having said that, the act of constantly searching the definitions of terminology used by dermatologists was expected and I was surprised to find that there was very little searching to be done. Considering that this article was published in a fashion website instead in an academic setting, it is coherent to why Yoon-Soo used laymen terms and stayed clear from complex terminology. That being said, it would have been useful to apply some terminology along with the definition. The audience can benefit from learning something new and using appropriate terminology could strengthen her
