...Application of Porter’s Five Forces Model on Tata NANO Brand Name: Unit Name Unit Code Tutor School Date Introduction The turnover in automotive industry is growing significantly. Companies need to sell their product across borders. To realize this, companies must evaluate the market forces in target markets in order to increase sales. One strategic tool used in evaluating market forces is porters five forces model. This tool highlights the key factors that determine the industry competition and the viability of such a market. The porters five forces model has been evolving with time. The principle ‘’the state of competition in an industry depends on five basic forces’’ (Porter, 2008 P.3) is still relevant. This analysis model covers a wide range of factors affecting the industry. Companies with awareness about their environment are able to make strategic decisions concerning their business. ...• FIVE FORCE MODEL IN THEORY AND PRACTICE: ANALYSIS FROM AN EMERGING ECONOMY • FIVE FORCE MODEL IN THEORY AND PRACTICE: ANALYSIS FROM AN EMERGING ECONOMY ABSTRACT For thirty years, the five-force model of Michael Porter has been used as a standard tool to analyze and determine industry attractiveness. In a recent interview to mark thirty years of the theoretical framework, Porter reaffirmed his faith in the model, quoting examples from the airline and steel industries. The model along with the others that Porter has developed, such as the value chain, strategic groups and national competitive advantage, continue to influence strategic thinking in profound ways. And yet, one cannot help observing that perhaps the time has come to re-examine these models in the light of empirical evidence. This paper attempts to argue that the usefulness of the five-force model is limited in emerging economies as compared to mature markets. A longitudinal study of the IT Enabled Services Industry in India demonstrates that with low entry barriers, a high degree of competition (industry rivalry), bargaining power of buyers (Fortune 100 companies), bargaining power of suppliers (large manufacturers of hardware who force technological up gradation at regular intervals), and the absence of clear differentiators (or close substitutes being offered), the industry should have been very unattractive according to the five-force model. On a practical level though, the paper shows that ...

...Essays By Mashell Chapeyama Porter’s five forces Effectiveness of generic strategies The study of strategic management is quite stimulating. It gives a person insight in a lot of leadership and managerial roles. One such aspect I have come across is that of generic strategies. This has been quite stimulating to me as it relates to some questions I have had in the past. The question related to the effectiveness of applying human resources systems and strategies across many companies in various continents. After a long time of studying such a scenario, I concluded that having human resources systems that are used the world over would not be effective because of the diverse cultures that are found in the world. But in some field such as accounting there are standards that are applied world over. So what about generic strategies? Can these really be effective across industries, across continents and in varying business sizes and scope? This essay will answer these questions in a very simple way. The first thing to understand is what a generic strategy is. Generic strategy refers to the use of predetermined strategy, based on some basic principles and assumptions, that if applied would lead to business success. A generic strategy is an outline of what a firm must or can do so as to be successful, disrespectful of the industry or nature of business of that firm. The question is could all industries and firms be able to use prescriptions of a generic strategy and be successful...

Students please note that this assignment was graded in the range 70% and above. Students: Please note there is no need to place the basic strategy models in the appendices e.g. Porter’s (1985) Five Forces, SWOT analysis, etc.. It would be more beneficial to apply the models directly to the organisation and place them in the appendices and discuss the main identified issues in the main text. 2 Corporate Strategy: Emirates Airline By Student How has Emirate airline managed to remain competitive in such a saturated industry? ORIGIN AND EVOLUTION The present pharmaceutical industries are non-assembled and more of competitive but it had emerged in early 19th century in the Rhine valley near Basel Switzerland where dyestuffs were found to have antiseptic properties. Companies like Hoffman-la rochy, Sandoz, Novartis are all started as Rhine based family dyestuff and chemical companies, which are still doing tremendous business even to day. Slowly these chemical companies started making pharmaceuticals and synthetic chemicals and evolved as global players. In early 1940's the industry showed drastic changes such as introduction of penicillin and other drugs. In 1960's industry growing rapidly with the setting up of R&D not only this economies prospered by the spending on health care in same period. Currently it has more than 2,000 restaurants, mainly in the southeastern United States. Its headquarter is in the Atlanta, Georgia, specializing in chicken sandwiches. Porter’s Five Forces Model Porter's five forces analysis helps us analyze the level of competition within an industry and business strategy development. It draws upon industrial organization economics to derive five forces that determine the competitive intensity and therefore attractiveness of an Industry. Those Five Forces: * Existing Rivalry * Threat of New Entrants * Threat of substitutes * Buyer Power * Supplier Power 4. a) Opportunities for profit * Good quality Good marketing , after 15 years in the fast food business, Cathy found a pressure-fryer that could cook the chicken sandwich in the same amount of time it took to cook a fast-food hamburger.[5] Following this discovery, he registered the name Chick-fil-A, Inc. The company's current trademarked slogan, "We Didn't Invent the Chicken, Just the Chicken Sandwich," * "Eat Mor Chikin" is the chain's most prominent advertising slogan, created by The Richards Group in 1995.
