Aaa's Role In Overcoming Great Depression

Few historians will disagree that the New Deal Farm program was a crucial factor in overcoming Great Depression in America. Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA), was the core of the New Deal Farm program. It was promulgated in 1933 by Franklin D. Roosevelt, due to the economic crisis Great Depression (Wayne, 3) and became one of the programs that composed New Deal. This investigation will explore to what extent was the AAA crucial in overcoming great depression my comparing and contrasting with other related programs in New Deal.

Considering the time period, New deal was in-between WWI and WWII. The end of WWI ended the exportation of American farmer’s supernumerary products, (Domhoff, 90) causing the productivity to accelerate more than …show more content…
Roosevelt states that the plan of AAA is the first step in reconstruction of agriculture, (Roosevelt, 3) and AAA was the most important program in the Nation’s economic system recovery plan. [WPA and NRA comes after AAA] (Roosevelt, 23). Furthermore, the congress of AAA approved in 1933, states the primary and most significant declaration was to establish and maintain the balance between production and consumption of agricultural products. (United States Congress, 1933). From the analyzations above, it seems that AAA did fulfill his requirements, being the primary step of success in overcoming Great Depression and achieving reconstruction of agriculture. The range of employment success was remarkable during the whole years of New Deal, remaining as a record of one of the most successful programs that America ever had. (refer to table 1). The unemployment was a serious difficulty caused by great depression, which lead to a vicious cycle of depression. Therefore, perhaps the WPA was the most obvious and direct approach towards it, such as Robert F. Himmelberg states WPA was the “most direct and appealing impact on the lives of the people” (49). Peter J. Coleman , a Professor emeritus of history, states that the most fundamental feature of New Deal was “the massive federal intervention in so many aspects of American economic and social life” (Coleman, 49) which indicates how important it was for the programs to appeal impact on the live of people, and it is clear that WPA fulfilled
