Television’s ABC News and The Project are two of Australia’s predominant news broadcasters. The two program’s strategically planned styles determine the shows audience and ultimate purpose. ABC News responds to the peoples need for current event updates with simple settings, camera angles and intelligent language to set up a trustworthy, educated news source for their older target audience. Conversely, The Project adopts a technology based setting; humorous language and early evening air time to provide an entertainment and family driven program.
Similarly, ABC News and The Project use camera angles and setting to communicate the programs purpose. Both programs maintain the same set in each episode, which ultimately representing their motive. …show more content…
Both ABC and The Project, include screen graphics to straightforwardly communicate with the audience. The typical ABC graphic displays a refined overview of the up and coming news story, this unveils the intended audience. Despite the blunt word choice of the following on-screen graphic used by ABC’s 7.00pm news, it captures the story and the intended audience, ‘More Stabbing: Tensions rise’. The refined choice of words effectively intrigues the audience with no amplification; alternatively puns and alliteration are used throughout The Project. Along with the entertaining techniques the titles intentionally lack depth, “Pan gets Panned” is an appropriate example, the humorous pun and the mention of new film, Pan, intrigues the audience. Additionally both text employ bold fonts for visual pleasure. ABC identifies as a formal and easy source for credible news. By applying white, bold font for headlining articles, the audience can effortlessly decide to watch or ignore. Likewise The Project employs white, bold article titles with the addition of contrasting black, and blue text. The variety of colours allows The Project to bring to attention key details, often coloured blue, once again to intrigue a larger population of people. Both ABC and The Project air in the evening. ABC News focuses on the intelligent, working democracy of Australia. The later time slot allows for average workers to tune in and provide more graphic details of current events, thus educating the audience on the entire news story. Alternatively, The Project has adopted this time as ‘family time’. The addition of humorous language and entertainment segments suggest the program is appropriate for all ages. Furthermore, both texts are aired on alternate channels but utilise the identity their channel has formed. ABC News, airs on ABC, the government funded channel strives to provide trusted intellectual entertainment to the Australian population. ABC News’ credible campaign is reflected in the many appearances of the ABC logo during the 7 O’clock news. Similarly, The Project utilise Channel Ten’s entertainment status however, refrain from constant use of the logo to ensure trust is being instilled.
