ABORTION: It should be a choice
Imagine a teenage girl who has made one of the biggest mistakes in her life, getting pregnant. Her family is not stable enough to afford a baby and she cannot afford one herself, but yet cannot abort the baby because it is against the law. The teenage girl has now given birth to a baby boy. With no help from her family she ends up on living on the street with her baby crying every night of hunger. She struggles for the rest of the child’s childhood and vows to never have a baby again. Now let’s imagine a teenage girl who has made the same mistake but instead was able to get an abortion. With this being one of the most emotion and horrifying events she has experienced yet, she also made a vow; but this teenager’s vow was to always be protected. Many teenagers who become mothers have grim prospects for the future. They are much more likely to leave school; receive poor prenatal care; rely on public assistance to raise a child; develop health problems; or end up divorced from their child’s father. In the Supreme Court case of Roe vs. Wade (1973) women of the United States “have been granted the right to have abortions” it is a strong belief of many people it is a woman’s right to be able to abort an unwanted pregnancy, and no man, organization, or any form of government should take that right away from her.
The right to have an abortion is a woman’s right not to have a conceived child. According to the Encyclopedia, an abortion is the loss of a fetus before it is able to live outside the womb. Abortion is observed as a moral issue in some cultures, but to others it is seen as an acceptable way to end an unplanned pregnancy. In countries where abortion is absolutely not tolerated it is a fact that women continue to receive abortions, from unqualified back-street abortionists or the village massage abortionist.
