...ABORTION; PRO-LIFE OR PRO-CHOICE Some people believe that abortion is immoral and some people don’t. Morality is an interpersonal conflict over a decision between right and wrong (“Morality”). The question is what reasons people have for their beliefs for and against abortion and whether those reasons are reasonable or not? There are two main groups of people in the case of abortion, pro-life supporters and pro-choice supporters. On the one hand, pro-life supporters, those who think abortion is not right, consider a fertilized human egg a human being from the moment of conception. Therefore, they refer to abortion as murder. On the other hand, the pro-choice supporters, those in favor of abortion, have a different perspective. They believe that a fetus is a human only after birth. The moral difference between these groups encompasses one issue. That is “At what stage is a fertilized egg considered a human being?” According to Peter Singer, there are four general stages that the pro-lifers and the pro-choicers argue about in terms of the standing of a fetus. They are: “birth, viability, quickening and the onset of consciousness” (138). The arguments made by the two groups for and against each of these stages causes the standing of an embryo to be upgraded to that of a child in the long run, as Singer suggests (138). Thus, this paper will examine and analyze the four moral junctures for the status of the fetus -“birth, viability, quickening...

...According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the term abortion simply means “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus” (abortion). The main arguments of abortion are at what point does life begin for the child and whether or not this action is inhumane. Many medical professionals believe life begins at conception, which places abortion into the murder category. Abortion is very well-known throughout the world today and is becoming more prevalent in our society; the support of the pro-life movement is needed to eliminate this problem. Abortion has been discussed recently in our everyday news, but there were no specific laws set before the 19th century. It...

...Pro-Life The topic of abortion is a highly controversial issue in today's society. For years, abortion has been talked about and laws have changed due to new discoveries and new ideas purposed on this issue. Between laws, cases, and women’s rights, no one has truly come up with a solid explanation for whether abortion is right or wrong, without a “what if” that questions it. Some people feel that abortion is simply cold-blooded murder, because the fetus is a human being from the moment of conception. However, others would argue that a fetus is merely insubstantial matter, and that it depends entirely on its mother's body for survival, with no real life of its own. This is the argument between someone who is “pro-life” and someone who is “pro-choice.” For many years women were denied their rights and could not even vote. Today, most women are given the choice to have an abortion or have the baby. As a female, I do believe it is important to have my choices, but abortion is not one of them. The definition of abortion is “the termination of a pregnancy by the removal of a fetus or embryo from the uterus, resulting in or caused by its death.” To me, this is a nice way of saying “killing an unborn child.” Not only is killing an innocent child, unborn or not, morally wrong, but it is extremely dangerous mentally and physically to the mother. For one, it does not matter the age of a fetus or embryo, it is to become a life of its own. No one has the right to take a gift that God has...

...Abortion, [the termination of a pregnancy, resulting in the death of the embryo or fetus], is a controversial issue in the United States. The right for an abortion was first given attention in 1973, when a woman who used her alias name, Jane Roe, confronted the illegal abortion laws in Texas. The state indentified any action trying to violate the abortion law with the exception of the mother’s life being in danger was considered a criminal act. The final decision of the Supreme Court supported Roe, and she helped bring the constitutional rights to herself and other women in the country. (“Lewis”) The Ninth Amendment in the Bill of Rights which states that, “the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny...

...All Unborn Lives Matter: A Pro-Life Stance on Abortion Unborn children do not hold the responsibility of a mistake that a man and women made. Abortion means “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy,” (Dictionary). Abortion is fundamentally wrong because it goes against the rights of every human being under the 5th, 9th, and 14th amendment. Abortion should be illegal because it violates the rights of unborn children and it ends the life of a child before it has even begun. Abortion is murder, according to abortion.procon.org, “The federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which was enacted ‘to protect unborn children from assault and murder,’ states that under federal law, anybody intentionally killing or attempting to kill an unborn child should ‘be punished... for intentionally killing or attempting to kill a human being.’" (abortion.procon.org) Many Pro-Life activists argue that a woman or a...

In 2010 a national survey was conducted, forty five percent of Americans were pro-choice and forty seven percent was pro-life. Pro-choicer’s think differently and feel that the decision should be left to the mother about what she wants to do with her body. The Gallup Poll, which was also conducted in 2010 shows that thirty eight percent of Americans believed that abortion is acceptable and fifty percent stated it was morally wrong. A small portion of approximately nine percent of people said it depended on the situation, such as if one was rape. The topic of abortion in the U.S. has prompted many national...

...wrong to be pro-life because your decisions in voting can affect someone's life in such as way that is it very harmful for them in the long run. Most of the Pro-life supports are Catholic, and this plays a big role in elections and politics(Miller, 2015). The effect of not being able to get an abortion limits women's success, like limiting their time working, making them pay for another person that they did not intend to have, or have the unnecessary guilt on their shoulders that they let a kid go to adoption(Geier, 2012). Some Pro-life supports even believe that a women can get breast cancer from having an abortion(Ohlheiser, 2013). Making a vote in an election to rid funding for a program that is a human right can change many...

...Abortion has been about for many years; there’s people who support the right for abortion and those who don’t. Abortion kills a human being no matter if it’s considered a baby or if it’s still not at that stage you are still killing a human being. Review of Literature Those who are pro-life say that human life begins at fertilization and abortion is killing of an innocent human being. There’s no need for abortion when couples who cannot have kids of their own are waiting for their opportunity to adopt a child. The ones who are pro-life accept abortion only for certain situations such as in rape, or when a woman's life is at risk but no matter the situation there is no need to kill a child that someone wants. ...Cruz 1 Do Not Cease the Pump of a Heart An unborn baby is not an object; it is a person! Stop the aborting method to end a human being’s life. Abortion is the termination of a human’s pregnancy. Women whom do not want to give birth to an unwanted baby use this unethical practice of terminating unborn fetuses. But Pro-life advocates are opposed to legalized abortion mainly because they consider the procedure a form of killing. Abortion could be justified if it was conducted to save the mother’s life. However, according to the United States Abortion Statistics website, “74 percent of women say having a baby would interfere with work, school, or other responsibilities” (“Abortion Statistics”). Therefore, the baby should not be punished by getting its life taken away due to the mother’s irresponsible actions and lack of preparedness for motherhood. Abortion should be made illegal because it is akin to murder, it can lead to physical and psychological complications of the mother, and there is a better alternative to abortion, which is adoption. The baby is known as an embryo upon fertilization and becomes a fetus after the eighth week of the pregnancy. According to...

...One of the most controversial debates in recent times is of course abortion, which stems all the way back to “1821 Connecticut passes the first law in the United States barring abortions after “quickening,” which were usually performed by administering poison to the woman after the fourth month of pregnancy.”(“History”) Although many believe that abortion should be illegal I believe that you deserve to choose instead of being forced into giving birth which might even scar or kill you. There are many reasons for abortion such as the person’s health, economics, and most importantly the person’s choice. Should you have the choice to do what you believe is right or be forced into what everyone else thinks is right? “Some of the pros of abortion is you can donate your embryonic stem cells which can become another type of cell with a more specialized function, such as a muscle cell, a red blood cell, or a brain cell which could lead to helping lots of people.” (“Stem”) You may be wondering how does this help...

...Abortion can be quite the controversial topic, many countries with some people even getting killed for having them. Abortion is the act of ending a pregnancy before the fetus (unborn child) can live independently outside the mother. If an abortion happens spontaneously before 24 weeks of pregnancy, it is called a miscarriage. An induced (or "therapeutic") abortion is caused deliberately in order to end the pregnancy. The question is, where does Canada stand in accordance to the issue? Looking at legal issues, social constructs, medical aspects and personal reflection will help determine the answer to the popular question, “Which is better “pro-life” or “pro-choice”?” A glance at where Canada stands in a legal aspect can determine where Canada is as a nation on the question at hand. In the year 1969 the act of abortion...
