Arby's® is the place for people hungering for a unique, better tasting alternative to traditional fast food. It's the favorite place for people who crave something different and better. Serving one-of-a-kind menu items, Arby's is well known for slow-roasted and freshly sliced roast beef sandwiches and famous Market Fresh sandwiches, wraps and salads, made with wholesome ingredients and served with the convenience of a drive-thru.

From day one, Arby's Roast Beef Restaurants offered an innovative menu, offering guests something other than hamburgers in the newly inspired quick service segment. When foodservice veterans Leroy and Forrest Raffel opened the first Arby's in Boardman, Ohio on July 23, 1964, customers enjoyed roast beef sandwiches, potato chips, and Texas-sized iced teas. To name their new venture, the brothers decided on Arby's, which stands for R.B., the initials of the Raffel Brothers - although many suspect the R.B. stands for roast beef.

Leroy and Forrest never looked back. They fine tuned the operation and sold the first franchise to Sam Feldman the following year. Today, Arby's rich heritage is comprised of several multi-generation franchise owners. In fact, Jim Raffel, founder Leroy's son, owns and operates three locations in Maine.

The enterprising spirit that originated with the Raffel Brothers has fueled the development of Arby's throughout its 41 year history. The company added an average of 50 restaurants a year in the 1970s while simultaneously creating and perfecting timeless menu favorites, Beef 'n Cheddar, Jamocha Shakes, Curly Fries and Arby's signature sauces, Arby's BBQ sauce and Horsey Sauce®.Arby's continued expanding both locations and menu items during the next decade, opening restaurant number 1,000 and introducing chicken to the menu in 1981.

In 1991, Arby's was the first to introduce a complete Lite Menu featuring three sandwiches and four salads under 300 calories and 94% fat free. In 1994, Arby's banned smoking in all company-owned restaurants, another first in the quick service segment.

In 1995, the Arby's Foundation launched the Arby's Charity Tour (ACT), a series of corporate golf tournaments and other fund-raising activities to benefit youth-mentoring organizations, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters. Since then, the ACT has raised over $18 million, a testament to Arby's commitment to make a difference in the communities its restaurants serve. A change in the company's ownership set the course for menu expansion and a strengthened brand. Triarc Companies, Inc. purchased Arby's in 1993 and innovation quickly followed. Arby's introduced Arby's Market Fresh in 2001, a line of deli-style sandwiches and salads made with high quality and unique ingredients. In 2003, wraps extended the popular additions.

Following a thorough study of the brand and customer base, Arby's introduced the "I'm Thinking Arby's" campaign in 2005. The ad series featured Arby's point of difference - high quality, unique products not typically found in fast food. When you're craving Arby's you can't think of anything else.

On July 25, 2005, Triarc acquired RTM Restaurant Group, Arby's largest franchisee, and formed Arby's Restaurant Group, Inc., an Atlanta-based company comprised of more than 3,500 restaurants. Of those, Arby's Restaurant Group owns and operates more than 1,000 restaurants located in the United States.

Roland Smith returned to Atlanta as President and Chief Executive Officer of Arby's Restaurant Group in April 2006. Smith first joined Arby's in 1994 and served as the brand's President and CEO from 1997 to 1999.

On September 29, 2008, Triarc Companies Inc. merged with Wendy's International, Inc. to form Wendy's/Arby's Group, Inc. Wendy's/Arby's Group, Inc. is the third largest quick-service restaurant company in the United States.

On July 5, 2011, Arby's was acquired by an affiliate of Roark Capital Group, an Atlanta-based private equity firm that focuses on investing in franchise, brand management and restaurant companies.

Respected Marketer Brings Turnaround Track Record to Iconic Brand
ATLANTA (January 11, 2012) - Hala Moddelmog, President of Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc. (ARG), announced today that Russ Klein will join Arby’s as Chief Marketing Officer.
Klein, who brings a 25-year track record of marketing management, brand turnarounds and value creation at Burger King, 7-Eleven, Dr Pepper, 7-Up and other brands, will lead Arby’s efforts to revitalize the iconic fast food brand.
“Adding a marketing pro like Russ to our team is a big win for every Arby’s stakeholder. His track record for leveraging consumer insights into powerful communication plans that resonate with consumers, drive sales and ultimately increase value is unmatched in the industry. Over the course of his career, Klein has launched new brands, repositioned existing brands and brought “talked about” ideas to the marketplace. He has been publically acknowledged by numerous “Top Marketer” lists spanning three decades, including “Top 100 Marketer” by Advertising Age and “Marketer of the Year” twice by Brand Week.
Klein is a graduate of Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program and earned a BS in Business Administration from The Ohio State University, where he is a recipient of the Max Fisher College of Business Distinguished Alumnus Award.

ARBY’S® NAMES GEORGE CONDOS CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
ATLANTA (January 5, 2012) – Hala Moddelmog, President of Arby‟s Restaurant Group, Inc., has announced that George Condos will serve as the Chief Operating Officer for the Arby‟s brand.
Condos joins the company with more than 30 years of restaurant experience, primarily with Dunkin Brands, where he held the position of Vice President of Marketing, Development and Operations leading the significant sales and unit growth in the Northeast. He later held the position of SVP and Brand Officer of Dunkin Donuts where he led a portfolio strategy of brand development in the U.S. until 2006. Condos also served as the Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Board of Directors for Friendly‟s Ice Cream, leading the sale of the company to Sun Capital Partners in 2007.
In 2010, he returned to a newly acquired Sun Capital portfolio company as the interim CEO and a member of the Board of Directors for Bar Louie Restaurants.
“George‟s proven success in the restaurant industry, including his expertise in franchising, makes him ideal to join the Arby‟s leadership team. His skill set and experience will add tremendous value to what is needed to move Arby‟s forward,” said Moddelmog.

...Major Themes in 'Much Ado About Nothing' Shakespeare’s treatment of love in Much Ado About Nothing differs from his other romantic comedies. Sure, it shares the same stagy plot, which finishes with the lovers finally getting back together, but Shakespeare also mocks the conventions of courtly love which was popular at the time. Although Claudio and Hero’s courtly marriage is central to the plot, their relationship is the least interesting thing in the play. Instead, our attention is drawn to Benedick and Beatrice’s unromantic backbiting – it is this relationship that seems more believable and enduring. By contrasting these two different types of love, Shakespeare manages to poke fun at the conventions of courtly, romantic love. Claudio uses highly contrived language when speaking of love, which is undermined by Benedick and Beatrice’s banter: “Can the world buy such a Jewel?” says Claudio of Hero. “My dear Lady disdain! Are you yet living?” says Benedick of Beatrice. Shakespeare uses the dialogue to show the reader the progression of Benedick’s outlooks on life go from hating Beatrice and the whole idea of marriage to then loving Beatrice and asking her to marry him. ...Beatrice is a strong-willed, independent woman. How far do you agree with this statement? I would agree for the most part with this statement. Beatrice is indeed strong-willed, but her independence has its limitations. As with many Shakespearean characters, appearance can be deceptive, and what we see is only a facade, a mask to hide their true character or feelings. I believe that Beatrice uses her cleverness and quick wit to hide her real feelings, and that although she is independent to a certain extent, she is aware that she has limitations because of her gender. Although Beatrice states ‘I would rather hear my dog bark at a crow than hear a man swear he loves me’ she is ultimately fooled into believing that Benedick loves her. The fact that she is tricked so easily, and subsequently admits her reciprocal love, tells us that she views marriage in a more favourable light than she had previously led us to believe. Whether she gave in to the ‘social construct’ demanded by the patriarchal society in which she lived is questionable. What we do know is that Shakespeare has presented her as a wilful, self-confident, autonomous woman who appears to revel in her single status. In contrast we have Hero, the antithesis of Beatrice. It is written in the modern style, and is mainly in prose form. It was written for the audience in the Elizabethan era of England, which was the age when females were considered significantly inferior to their male counterparts. Shakespeare has used this concept of gender for creating humour in his play. The characters Benedict and Beatrice are involved in a complex relationship which contrasts between love and hate.
