Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body. I chose the Abraham Cherrix’s case, which involves Abraham and his parents. Abraham Cherrix is a 16-year-old boy who was diagnosed with cancer. The young boy had to undergo Chemotherapy, which left him so weakened and exhausted his father had to carry him into their house after returning from the hospital. The brutal procedure got rid of the cancer but for only two months. Abraham was taken back to the doctors, where they insisted on the boy going through Chemotherapy again. With his parents by his side, Abraham declined the treatment because he didn’t want to go through the same treatment that left him helpless. The boy was then taken to court by the state for refusing the treatment. The result of the case was…show more content… It should be his decision to except or deny any kind of treatment. The court shouldn’t force anyone to go through a treatment if that person doesn’t want to. Even though the boy is a minor, both him and his parents agreed on the decision he wanted to make and I feel like it should be left in the hands of the individual who has to go through the treatment. Abraham had already gone through the treatment before and it left him in a weakened state of mind, plus the cancer came back. So what would be the point of the boy going through the treatment again if it might not get rid of the cancer completely? The court is arguing that over 80 percent of the time the treatment cures the cancer, but seeing that it didn’t work the first time, the boy should have the right to deny the treatment. I don’t think the court should be held responsible for the decision the boy made but they also shouldn’t demand any answer or punish the boy for making his decision. The parent shouldn’t decide for the boy either because they don’t understand the physical or emotional pain the boy had to go through the first
