Chris Crutcher uses figurative language in the book “Whale Talk” to make the theme of the story noticeable. The theme of the book is pretty simple. Abuse can affect people, inside and outside.
First and foremost, abuse can affect you inside and out based on a few characters in the book. The first character has been abused physically and mentally. The character is named Andy Mott. He was abused physically because he had effects of being hurt. On page 165 in the book, “Man, if you want to pass up purgatory and go straight to hell… Soon as my mom would take off to work, he’d tie up my leg to the pipe under the kitchen sink, give me a big ol’ aluminium bowl to pee in, and take off with his buddies…” That means that he had been abused to the
