Relationship Between Study Habits and Academic Achievement of Students

...then we need to understand the meaning of general vocational education. A definition that I prefer for its simplicity and comprehensiveness defines vocational education as ‘any form of education whose primary purpose is to prepare persons for employment in recognised occupations’ (Okoro, 1993:1) 3. It is obvious therefore that vocational education is a term that is more all-embracing than technical education which O.M. Okoro defines as ‘a postsecondary vocational training programme whose major purpose is the production of technicians’ 4. The National Policy on Education defines technical and vocational education ‘as a comprehensive term referring to those aspects of the educational process involving, in addition to general education, the study of technologies and related sciences and the acquisition of practical skills, attitudes, understanding and knowledge relating to occupations in various sectors of economic and social life’. Technical education can therefore be seen as the formal training of persons to become technicians in different...

Effects of Study Habits on Academic Performance of ... Effects of Self-Study Habits on the Academic Achievement of Grade-Vi Pupils in English

...Electricity is produced in different ways from different sources. The most common sources are friction (static), heat (thermocouple), light (photo cell or solar cell), pressure (crystals), magnetism (generators) and chemical action (battery). 1. Static electricity is produced by friction. In friction, electrons in an insulator can be separated by rubbing to produce opposite charges that remain in the dielectric. 2. Heat energy is converted into electrical energy through the use of a device called thermocouple. It is a device consisting of two dissimilar metal wires twisted together at one end but open at the opposite end. When the joined end is heated, it produces a low DC voltage at the open end. The voltage produced by this device is directly proportional to the temperature of the metal wires. To produce a higher voltage, a number of thermocouples may be joined together. 3. Photoelectric matter. Some materials are photoelectric, which means that they can emit electrons when light strikes the surface. A device called photovoltaic cell or photo cell is made of a vacuum tube with two electrodes. One electrode is coated with sensitive materials such as cesium or selenium which give off electrons when illuminated. These electrons strike the other electrode which in turn, collects the electrons. If the tube is combined with a fixed voltage source, there will be electron flow in the circuit and this will activate photoelectric devices such as television cameral tubes, phototransistors...

...Study Habits and Its Effect on Students Academic Achievement A Research Paper Presented to The Faculty of the English Department College of Business Adventist University of the Philippines Silang, Cavite In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Course Communication Arts 2 Raddison Brian Dorado March 8, 2016 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Research has concluded that it’s not how smart students are but how motivated they are and how they study that determines their growth in academic achievement (Society for Research in Child Development, 2012.) According to Kou Murayama (2012), while intelligence as assessed by IQ tests is important in the early stages of developing mathematical competence, motivation and study habits play a more important role in student’s subsequent growth. A student who does not have good study habits cannot do well in class recitation, daily quizzes, and actual pupil demonstration since he/she did not study and review the lessons learned. Good study habits are the tools to success (Losare, 2009). Losare (2009) also stated that nowadays, many children are engaged in computer games, cutting classes, watching television, excessive playing, and, worst of all, are involved in vices such as illegal drugs, gambling, and crimes. Others also use their intelligence in foolishness and bad deeds. They should be able to balance and manage their time wisely. A recent survey showed that nearly 40% of parents say high school is stressful for...

Motivation Towards Study

...procedures of study in the various school subjects. Many methods of supervised or directed study are being tried. The socialized recitation is now a part of the regular classroom routine in many high schools. By this method pupils "take an active part, in defining the problem under consideration, in securing data, in presenting these data for class criticism, and in raising questions. Classroom study is now eliminating much of the former home study, especially in the elementary and junior high schools. The purpose of this method is to train students, under the guidance of the teacher, in habits of study. Student’s academic performance occupies a vital role in education as well as in the learning process. It is a key criterion in judging one’s total potential and capacities. It is used to pass judgment on the quality of education offered by academic institutions. In fact, it is still the most topical debate in many learning institutions that caused great concern to educators and researchers. In a more recent meta-analysis, Crede and Kuncel (2008) found that non-cognitive factors like study habit, skill and study motivation, among other attitudinal constructs, accounted for incremental variance in academic performance beyond standardized tests and previous grades. Moreover, a literature review by Nagaraju (2004) pointed out that, for good academic success, good study habits and attitudes are important. Hence, it is imperative and desirable that a probe into the pattern of study habits...

The Survey of Study Habits and Attitudes (SSHA) instrument developed by Brown and Holtzman (1969) was used to assess the study habits and attitudes of the students.
