...How academic experience prepares you for college and reaching career goals The key to a child striving to obtain a degree is for his or her parents to really teach the importance of having one. Getting a degree is probably the only thing that I look at totally different as the years has passed. My parents were real old school and they didn’t come from a family of scholars so I was not really pushed in that direction. They made sure I did well in grade school but all I really was told was to get a job. All children should be explained how better life will be for them and their children if they get that degree. I realize it now but I’m not in the situation I would be in if I started fresh out of high school. More opportunities would’ve been available because I would be more mobile. I have children now but back then I didn’t have any. I could have easily moved to another state if I needed to do that for my career. The long term results and values of completing a degree is a sense of accomplishment. Some people do it to make their family proud. Some may do it so that they can personal see their achievements. Whatever pushes and drives you to reach for the stars is positive motivation. When you get a degree you stand a better chance at getting hired for jobs. Once you get hired it doesn’t stop there. With that degree you will get looked at for promotions versus someone who doesn’t have one. The biggest difference that a degree makes once you start working in your career of choice...

...requires leadership skills, wisdom is always a desired quality. Wisdom is a trait that one can gain over experiencing different types of situations. Being wise is a title that is bestowed upon a person, rather than that person claiming the title for their own. Even though wisdom can mean a lot of things to different people; the description, negation, and process of someone who is wise can help us better understand the true meaning of wisdom. Let us begin by stating that one is not born being wise, but wisdom is acquired though experience. The experience may vary from person to person. Mostly it is though hardship that one earns wisdom, through enduring difficult situations and staying strong. Although it is not just enduring a bad time because one can go through a rough patch in life, but learn nothing and do the same mistake all over again. Thus, to gain wisdom is to persevere and learn though experience. Wisdom, aside from deriving from experience has to stem from humbleness, as there is no wisdom without humility. Humility is often characterized by a person’s unwillingness to be the center of attention or by a person’s quickness to share credit or place others in a superior position. One who is wise recognizes that the standing of others should take priority to his or her own standing. Wisdom is an idea that is often confused with or improperly attributed to old age. Not all old or elderly people are wise, though many are. Contrarily, not all wise people are old. One often...

...How do I . . . Write a Reflection? Why reflective writing? Reflection offers you the opportunity to consider how your personal experiences and observations shape your thinking and your acceptance of new ideas. Professors often ask students to write reading reflections. They do this to encourage you to explore your own ideas about a text, to express your opinion rather than summarise the opinions of others. Reflective writing can help you to improve your analytical skills because it requires you to express what you think, and more significantly, how and why you think that way. In addition, reflective analysis asks you to acknowledge that your thoughts are shaped by your assumptions and preconceived ideas; in doing so, you can appreciate the ideas of others, notice how their assumptions and preconceived ideas may have shaped their thoughts, and perhaps recognize how your ideas support or oppose what you read. Types of Reflection Experiential Reflection: Popular in professional programs, like business, nursing, forensics and education, reflection is an important part of making connections between theory and practice. When you are asked to reflect upon experience in a placement, you do not only describe your experience, but you evaluate it based on ideas from class. You can assess a theory or approach based on your observations and practice and evaluate your own knowledge and skills within your professional field. This opportunity to take the time to think ...

...professional culture. · To develop the students’ awareness of professional culture and role, and an increasing awareness of their own cultural identity. As a way of enabling you to achieve this, you are expected to keep a reflective diary. If you are unsure about your ability or motivation to do this, the above quote by Oscar Wilde may inspire you to write. You may not feel that you have anything sensational to write but you will be surprised how interesting you will find what you have written when you look back. The diary is a vehicle for collecting information and responses to major elements of the exchange and to enable students to log and reflect on their experiences. Reflection according to Johns (1993) is: - “...... the reflexive method of gaining access to an understanding of experience which enables practitioners to develop and increase the effectiveness of personal action within the context of their work”. It is intended that the document is student...

...Why is building a working knowledge of a subject critically important to the success of research writing? What is involved in this process and how can you, or should you, adapt this process to the online academic environment? Why, even as online students, is it not a good idea to consider a quick Google search good enough? When it comes to the importance of building working knowledge of a subject, it makes you have to search for the correct sources and make sure that you're getting all of the correct facts for your research papers. For my personal experience, the process is to do your normal searches, but when you click and look at a link I look for the author of said article or website I'm researching, and making sure that they are a credible source (Dr. PHD, etc.) or if they're from a trust worthy company with a solid knowledge background. A "good" Google search is not the best idea, because there are sites that claim they know their stuff, but in actuality, their facts are either incorrect or made up. Their facts may in fact be correct, but for a different subject that their article is not even about. There are also many sites that can be changed and altered by anyone. There's so many websites that anyone can change because literally everyone has access to change the information to whatever they please, so you never know if the information is truly correct if anyone has permission to change the article. Which is why I look for credible sites with credible authors, companies...

...Comparison & Contrast Essay Living at home and living away from home as students (during the higher education studies) Millions of students are often faced with the question of whether it is better to live at home or to go abroad and hence away from home for the period of their studies. Many would probably intuitively say that leaving home is an effort that is not necessary since the same opportunities for one’s study are often given where one lives, thus at the home city or home place. However, there are a number of advantages that can be found about the same decision. To begin with, living at home while studying means being close to family, friends and colleagues one knows, likes, and loves. It is simple, convenient and beneficial to keep and foster those relations. In fact, most friendships are built in the environment one grew up in, went to school, or worked. Hence, staying home during the studies provides the possibility for spending more enjoyable time with these friends and family members. This means that one can go out for a drink with friends after the university or college, have a dinner or enjoy a movie at the cinema together. More importantly however, apart from spending the good times together, very often study-related problems occur. This could mean to have troubles with a lecturer who does not grade fairly or fellow students who do not treat someone appropriately, i.e. teasing or even fighting. Especially during times like these, will it be essential to...

...ability to go beyond what is expected, to lead, show motivation and most of all inspiration. A leader takes responsibility of ones action, accepts there wrong and learns from that to make it better. A leader isn’t just born, it takes the life experiences, its mistakes and learns from ones mistakes for the better of tomorrow. At a young age, I can strongly say that it has not been easy to get where I am, and although I have made it far I am still learning, but even a leader still is learning. A leader never stops learning. That’s what makes an individual unique and qualified. When I set a goal, I execute it. I graduated earlier than the time that was expected of me. I dedicated myself to perform excellently both academically and mentally in all of my classes. Whether it was a core class or an elective class, I treated both with the same level of importance. I took classes that were beyond my level, such as AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and Anthropology. I took the challenge and performed to my best ability in every task that was assigned. When I found myself confused with the material I took the initiative to seek tutoring. I sat with a tutor on multiple occasions, and I became more familiar with the material. This allowed me to thrive in my academics. Multiple times I was faced with opportunity yet challenge to lead a group whether in many occasions. I took it as a responsibility to take control. I lead the group as best to my ability. Always putting my all my effort. As a leader I motivated...

...intriguing is the fact that God is again seen on page 53 frame 9, after this long absence. His sudden appearance made me ponder, why is God seen in this frame? Why did he return and what significance does that have to the storyline in that specific moment? Previously, God left Marji’s side has she began to accept the revolution and all it stood for. Marji is young and therefore has no complete understanding of what a revolution for political reform can incorporate; the hurt, the destruction and the emotional torment. Marji is still innocent. She has no background knowledge of war through experience or academic knowledge like other adults such as her parents have. Because Marji is innocent, she is also flexible. Her mind can easily be altered and tempered with. In other words, she is not yet old enough to have developed concrete opinions about such things as war which she has no first-hand experience with. However, God see all and knows all. He is aware of the things that Marji is accepting by supporting the revolution and by glorifying its morals and...

...students' careers when they are assigned a research paper. Such an assignment often creates a great deal of unneeded anxiety in the student, which may result in procrastination and a feeling of confusion and inadequacy.
