MAIKLING REAKSYON SA ISINAGAWANG TOUR NG
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
( REACTION PAPER )

Academic Performance

...What Is the Meaning of Academic Performance? Written by Scottk | Translated by Ehow Contributor Most people know that academic performance generally refers to how well a student is accomplishing his or her tasks and studies, but there are quite a number of factors that determine the level and quality of students' academic performance. Grades Certainly the most well-known indicator of academic performance, grades are the student's "score" for their classes and overall tenure. Grades are most often a tallying or average of assignment and test scores and may often be affected by factors such as attendance and instructor opinion of the student as well. Grading systems vary greatly by country and school; common scales include a percentage from 1-100, lettering systems from A-F, and grade point averages (GPA) from 0-4.0 or above. Attendance It would be difficult to perform well in class if the student doesn't attend. In public grade schools, attendance is compulsory and numerous unexcused absences may lead to notifying the students' parents, barring of make-up work for missed assignments and tests, or direct affects on grades. In extreme instances, parents have even been taken to court and given jail time for their truant students! Standardized Tests Standardized tests are those that provide a consistent measure of a student's performance with those that take the same test, often nationwide. Standardized tests include the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT), the Stanford-Binet Intelligence...

...Academic Standards Students must maintain high academic standards in all their program activities. After attempting 12 credit hours, all students must maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) above 2.75 to be considered as making satisfactory progress. If a student’s overall GPA falls to 2.75 or below, the student and advisor are notified by the Registrar that the student is not making satisfactory progress. If the overall GPA of any student falls below 2.65, the Registrar will inform the student that all future registrations will be given grades only on a pass/fail basis unless the department Graduate Committee intervenes. If the overall GPA of any student falls below 2.5, the student is removed from the program unless the department Graduate Committee intervenes. Grade Point Average (GPA) Grades are assigned the following grade points: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0 and F = 0.0. The grade point average is calculated as the sum of the products of the grade points and credit hours for each registered activity (including courses, independent studies, directed research, thesis research and dissertation research) in the average, divided by the total number of credit hours for all registered activities in the average. If a student takes the same course more than once, the course enters the GPA only once, the most recent grade received for the course being used in the average. A student’s overall GPA is calculated on the basis of all registered activities...

Study Habits and Academic Performance

...which is the most notable medium (Bajoyo, 2011). Technology has unlocked a universe of electronic information resources. Electronic resources and services have become the most popular tools for research and academic activities. These electronic information resources provide faster and reliable information according to Bhukuvhani, Chiparausha and Zuvalinyenga (2012). Libraries are now universally recognized as important social institutions for diffusion of knowledge and information. No community, institution or an organization is considered complete without the support of a library and its effective service. Library is a growing organization which requires constant change in order to maintain a high degree of relevance to the environment. Scarcity of resources, information and document explosion and the demand for consistent, responsive and prompt services for clientele pave the way for librarians to find out solution for effective and efficient management of libraries (Egberongbe, 2012). According to Gakibayo (2013), electronic information has gradually become a major resource in every University library. The emergence of electronic information resources simply referred to as electronic resources has tremendously transformed information handling and management in academic environments and in University libraries in particular. He further noted that through the use of electronic resources, researchers and students now have access to global information...

Relationship of Study Time and Academic Performance

...CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION a. Background of the Study Academic performance of students may be affected or shaped by a lot of factors to include time management, access to facilities, conducive learning environment, presence or influence of institutional support, and other resources which in one way or another can contribute to scholastic achievement. However, there is not much research, particularly in a local setting, showing focus on the relationship between study time allocation and academic achievement more specifically among fourth year and fifth year engineering and architecture students. It has been observed that among engineering and architecture students, spending much time in studying is not a common practice, or at the very least, is not admitted. There is a question as to whether or not studying does matter especially that such has not been very apparent in the College of Engineering and Architecture. The level of diligence displayed by students of other courses or their devotion to allocating study time appears to be unusual or uncommon in the College of Engineering and Architecture since a substantive level of understanding to the mind-boggling engineering and architecture-related theories and doctrines as commonly expressed in formulas is preferred and is reflected on the degree of intelligence among the students. In other words, analytical intelligence in numbers and figures and not merely diligence defines the students of engineering and architecture. Thus...

This is part of the NSA-training program that is traditionally followed by generation to generation of the NSA batches. This was implemented since from the 1st batch until in present time. One of this, is that during classes of the cadets they still fell tired and sleepy, therefore, they could not concentrate to the discussion of the instructors and could not absorb anymore the learning’s being implied to them. Then by the time of examinations majority of the cadets usually got low grades. Another problem that the cadets experienced is that some of them could not anymore take their bath which then leads for them to fell uncomfortable during their daily activities in the school. Lastly, the cadets don’t have time to have their study anymore because they prefer to take their rest than of studying. In the situation experienced by the 19th batch...

...professional and collegiate sports has been reflected in the sports programs of American high schools. The pressure to win and the allure of financial gain have always been a part of the professional ranks, as well as the collegiate sports scene. Intercollegiate athletics are a big business and a lucrative source of revenue for many universities. It is not unusual to find that coaches in our major universities make a great deal more income than tenured academic professors. The pressure to win is felt by most college coaches and athletic directors. It is therefore not surprising that a conflict has developed between the academic and athletic communities on many of the nation’s college campuses. Similarly, it is possible that athletic communities in high schools have developed a negative reputation with respect to academic performance. While a number of researchers studied athletic participation and academic performance in college (Ferris & Finster, 2004; Gaston-Gayles, 2005), few studies addressed the relationship between academics and athletic participation at the high school level. Similarly, these studies have 2 focused on the comparison of non-athletes to athletes; with respect to a variety of dependent variables Yiannakis and Melnick (2001). The effect of participation on athletics, with respect to its direct effect on the participants themselves, has not been investigated in the literature. Taras (2005) conducted a review of studies on younger students and the effect...

...GOFF, ANNE-MARIE, Ph.D. Stressors, Academic Performance, and Learned Resourcefulness in Baccalaureate Nursing Students. (2009) Directed by Dr. David F. Ayers. 135 pp. Despite extensive research establishing that stress affects problem-solving ability and coping, and leads to decreased learning, academic performance, and retention in nursing students, a paucity of research explores specific factors that could enhance these learning processes and outcomes. This explanatory correlational study examines the mediating effect of learned resourcefulness, the ability to regulate emotions and cognitions, on the relationships of stressors—both personal and academic—to academic performance in baccalaureate nursing students. Gadzella’s Student-life Stress Inventory (SSI) and Rosenbaum’s Self-Control Scale (SCS), a measure of learned resourcefulness, were administered to 53 junior level baccalaureate nursing students (92.5% female; 84.9% Caucasian; 9.4% African-American or Black) at a large urban university in North Carolina. High levels of both personal and academic stressors were revealed, but were not significant predictors of academic performance (p = .90). Age was a significant predictor of academic performance (p < .01) and both males and African-American/ Black participants had higher learned resourcefulness scores on the SCS than females and Caucasians. Total stress scores on the Student-life Stress Inventory showed that male participants perceived less stress (N = 4, M = 116.5)...

...The moment that I realized I wanted to enhance my academic performance was when I was selected to attend the “Upward Bound” program at Mississippi State University. I and a few other students were accepted into this program because we were performing at higher academic level from the rest of our peers. In order to get accepted into the Upward Bound program, a student’s GPA had to be a minimum 3.0. When I learned that I was one of the student’s chosen to be a part of this program, I was very excited and scared. The fear that I felt existed because the program was being held at a university and I did not know what to expect. On the other hand, I was excited to be away from home and have the opportunity to be able to coexist among older students. After arriving at Mississippi State University, I eventually got settled in and became inspired by my new environment. I took a tour of the entire campus so that I could become familiar with the buildings and halls that would host my classes. I visited buildings such as the library, cafeteria, and sororities and fraternities. While touring the campus, I remember feeling more determined and inspired to work harder so that I can experience the college lifestyle. I wanted to connect with embracing more knowledge so that I can create a brighter future for myself and I knew that this environment would be the gateway to that. On my first day sitting in a college classroom, I had decided that I wanted to enhance my learning and become more knowledgable...
