Academic Progress and Employment History for MBA - Finance

As little kids in elementary (Primary) school in my country, our major goal was to learn to read and write and standout among other kids who did not have the kind of opportunities we had. After my six years of elementary school, I passed the Common Entrance Examination, which is required for admission into any High School of choice within the state.
My high school career was akin to an image of someone groping in the dark. My school was located several miles away from my town. For the first time in my life, I had to live outside the purview of my parents, this to me, was a huge challenge. I went through all the stereotypical phases and rebelled against the authority of my long distant uncle, whom I was made to live with. In my first year, I failed majority of my classes, I almost gave up the idea of ever being successful. By the time I hit the third year, my grades were beginning to look good; I was walking away with few credits and excellent passes. As I settled into my senior year, I realized I had to work on my grades; else I would amount to nothing if I did not straighten up. I began to study more and my uncle who worked as an officer in one of the local Banks in town helped me with my home works. My high school experience had a tremendous positive impact on my education; I had already hit rock bottom, and it was not somewhere I wanted to be. It allowed me to see how it felt to be at the bottom of the barrel. It provided me with insight and even more essential: the will to go on. Having experienced it first-hand, I understand that I must succeed in my university career.
After I graduated from high school, my parents could not afford the school fees for a university education, so, I had to seek for employment with my high school result to enable me save up some money for my university education. I was admitted to Abia State University, years after I graduated from high school. A combination of school and job is a tough nut to crack in my country, but due to determination, sacrifice and resilience, I graduated with a 3.1 GPA, Bachelor’s Degree in Management.
I was employed by Express Discount Ltd after I graduated from the university. Express Discount Ltd is a financial services company which specializes in loan syndication, fixed income Investment and financial intermediation. My career with Express Discount Ltd spanned a period of eight years from 2001 to 2009 with top job functions in Account/Financial Control Department, Compliance/Internal Audit Department and Investment Portfolio Management Department. After eight years of work in different functions of a top global company and a leading local Financial Services Provider, I am more determined than ever to pursue a career in this vital industry driven by provision of quality financial services and personal interest. In the long run, I aspire to advance financial education and savings and investment opportunities in Africa and the globe through capital power.
I plan to obtain my MBA with concentration in Finance if I am accepted to the University of Redlands. I chose this concentration due to my vast experience in the financial industry. I hope to someday become the financial adviser to world leaders and economy. The University of Redlands will provide me with the tools, resources, and skills to get to where I want to be. It has birthed many influential people, and I hope that the university will provide me with a path to follow so that I can someday change the world, as so many before me.

Surviving Progress

...Resources Progress is defined as a forward or onward movement towards a goal or destination. The film “Surviving Progress” explains the progress humanity as a whole has made and the progress we continue to make. Filmmakers Mathieu Roy and Harold Crooks show how much progress humans are making and how we have become into a progress trap with too much progress eventually leading to disaster and dead ends. No matter what humanity is always making progress in our civilization, economy, technology, and more; only problem, we’re making progress non-stop creating an eventual crash and destruction of Earth’s natural resources. Ronald White argues that humanity is in what he calls a “progress trap” which he explains “I came up with the term progress trap to define human behaviors that sort of seem to be good things, seem to be, to provide benefits in the short-term, but which ultimately lead to disaster, because they’re unsustainable.” Humanity as a whole has reached what is considered a “progress trap” many times already and is in the process of falling into deeper “progress traps” than ever with technology and our economics. In the past, as an example given by Ronald White, Hunting turned into a dead end when our ancestors were hunting to make their living. They went from killing one mammoth at a time and struggling to do so, to killing a whole heard of mammoths by running them over a cliff. This pushed them into a “progress trap”. These new hunting techniques had been great progress made...

Implementation of New Digital Audio Workstation - Fl Studio

...[pic] Progress Report with working outline/rough draft For Margaret Sledziewski, Supervisor Prepared by: Bilal Zaheer Researcher Submitted: November 2, 2007 Steamline Production To: Margaret Sledziewski From: Bilal Date: November 1, 2007 Re: Progress report Implementation of new digital audio workstation - FL Studio On October 19, 2007, I proposed an Implementation of new digital audio workstation - FL Studio. After your approval of my project, we have encountered a couple problems but other than that everything is going well and all the work will be done by November 19, 2007. This memo reports the progress report, the problem we have encountered and the conclusions. Background As you know, FL Studio is a digital audio workstation which can record, mix, create, and edit sounds. It has a sequencer that makes it possible to create beats from patterns, which is the foundation of any track. The program currently used by the firm is fairly complicated and hard to use. This results in poor production. By using FL studio, we can create exact tracks which we intend to make. In my research I found that our competition has increased. Other similar companies have also upgraded their software to assist them in meeting their clients’ demands. I however, found out that none of them are using this software. This software is very helpful for our music industry and can give us an upper hand against our competitors. Project...

Progress

...Progress I'm a work in progress; you could even say we all are works in progress. As there are different kinds and types of animals, there are also different kinds and types of us human beings. A lot of things have changed on our planet Earth since God created it, and we, the mankind, are for certain not an exclusion. Many are even of the opinion, that we are the beings who have changed the most, and to tell the truth, I would not disagree to it. In Denmark, we have gone from being hunters and gatherers to farmers, building up towards the modern society and then further on to our current post-modern society, where we, the new generation, now, with all the different options and possibilities we have, focus a lot more on developing ourselves as individuals based on what we like to do, instead of what is expected and needed of us to do. The outcome of this has been, that our point of view on working has changed a lot, because we have invented all this technology that can replace some of the work we need to get done, and which contemporary also has caused a great increase of unemployment. It's not that we do less work, no; we still work a lot, and we work hard, but now, it's on a more science-based area, where the goal is to develop technology more than it already is. The work we do is on a complete other level than the pre-historical hunters and gatherers and it does not consist of the same basis, meaning that we now mostly work for our own satisfaction and curiosity rather...

Monster 10 Liner

...Work in Progress: Monster Story The 10 liner description: What monster do you have in mind?? On Wednesday, we will begin our discussions on monsters in earnest. And as we progress with this unit, the monsters you create (with your partner-- more on this later) will come alive, and start moving. But for them to do that, they need first be conceived. For this assignment, you will write a 10 liner description of the most fearful creature you can imagine. You can write about its physical deformity, its malicious character, its habitation, etc. Just make sure that your monster is uniquely yours (although it may be a combination of the existing monsters out there, or a remake of such monsters). This is a P/NP assignment, which means that if you fail to turn it in, there is a -5pt penalty. You can list the 10 traits here, below: 1) sharp teeth with two 1 foot fangs 2) 3 feet tall 3) lives underground 4) fire-breathing 5) black eyes 6) long sharp claws 7) human like behavior 8) hunched back 9) has no soul 10) very strong and powerful Later when you've partnered up you will compare the two 10 liners and decide what traits to keep and what to discard. Of course, the monster may shape-shift and evolve as you progress with your short story. This is absolutely fine. I'm not holding you down to the 10 liner. Just have fun with it. Be inspired by your own fears. And make it impossible for me to sleep. That, is the goal of any writer creating a...

...spread his team through different continents so they will be able to work closer to the customer and immediately respond to regional problems. He made a wise decision in choosing a diverse and multitalented team. Greg James holds weekly conference calls in addition to the face to face meetings once a month. With the size of his team and their location in the world, effective communication is still a work in progress. Judging from the HS Holdings drama, James must be very attentive to the issues posed by having a global team in four major countries. There was a lack of empathy from James side in regards to a lot of issues the team faced. It’s important for the manager to hold constant conversation with his team members to better understand their daily work performance. His approach however seemed a bit lackluster and ineffective. Issues like odd team meeting timings and misunderstanding because of different pay rate, would have never blown to such an extent if James had addressed them in their infancy. Prior to James’s trip, he was not in touch with his team or their progress. Upon his return, he instituted several team meetings, one on one meetings to bring him closer to his team and to develop team closeness and trust. It is important that he creates a sound environment to foster effective communication as that is of paramount importance in smooth sailing global team relationships. 2. Fear of Writing

...Fear of Writing My fear of writing began with grammar in grade school. As a young boy in catholic school, I spent many hours trying to correct my run on sentences; I had so much to say then and I guess I have just as much to say now. I guess the only difference now is that I married a teacher who is constantly correcting the way I speak/write. I am still trying to figure out if it’s my grammar or my marriage…just a joke. The most difficult part of writing for me has been to slow myself down so that I am able to take my profound thoughts and ideas and have them make sense to the reader; this is a work in progress. I have always found it funny that I love to read yet I have a terrible time writing and spelling; thank heavens for spell check. Unbeknownst to me, upon registering for Nursing 324 and 325, I found out that these courses were in fact writing intensive courses. That’s when I realized that the nightmares of my youth were now the terrors of the present. After beginning both courses, I quickly realized that while in the process of learning how to use an APA style of writing in Nursing 324, I was being asked to incorporate this format into Nursing 325. Nursing 325 places an emphasis on the proper use of APA format. Needless to say I have been sleeping with my APA Manual and Rules for Writers text books for 4 modules now. We are officially going steady. I have to admit that taking these courses simultaneously may not have been the best idea, but it has forced...

Donner Company

...INtroduction The three-year old Donner Company has positioned itself well within both the small volume, customized (contract) printed circuit boards market as well as the large volume, generic (captive) printed circuit boards market. Large electronic firms (AT&T, IBM) produced their components in captive shops, while smaller sized companies, or when large and small quantities of simple technology or fast turn-around prototype boards were required, these requests usually are fulfilled by contract shops. With a company that is managed primarily by engineers, Donner’s core competency was, obviously, its engineering expertise, and it produced specialized circuit boards known as “soldermask over bare copper” (SMOBC) boards. Donner positioned itself to manufacture these boards to small and large electronic firms and management envisioned it as one of the industry leaders. With 750 competitors in the US alone, and a market that is volatile, Donner’s ability to anticipate and resolve design problems and prototype techniques enabled it to maintain its competitive edge. However, this competitive edge has been compromised by poor on-time delivery and high rate of product return, in addition to planning and manufacturing problems that caused bottlenecks, shifting bottlenecks and improper utilization of labor. These problems began to hamper the overall performance of the firm, and management started evaluating the company’s position and different strategic policies. 1....

Time of Night

...Downtown Lights Langston has become like another home to me. It provides food, the location is easy to remember, and it has people that I feel comfortable around. Yet, my heart will always have a deep love for the city that I was born and raised in. Oklahoma City is a city I am proud to call home. Now that I am distant from home, every weekend trip to return home is always filled with emotions. Last weekend even, was an exciting time for me, because not only was I able to go see a movie I have been looking forward to since the middle of high school. In addition, I was going to be with a group of friends that I truly could be myself around and did not feel ashamed to act like an imbecile in front of. Even though they were all girls, I still enjoyed being around them; especially the one that I thought was attractive. Everything turned out great, we saw an entertaining movie, walked and talked, and just enjoyed being in each others presence. In order to watch this movie, we had to go the downtown area of Oklahoma City, where it’s illuminated as if its Christmas all year round. I was the first one to arrive at the theater because I have a set way of showing up at least ten minutes to any show or event I attend. After fifteen minutes of listening to the water fountain behind me, and watching couples stole by with their hands in a grip death match-the girls finally arrived. All we had to do is look around and we could tell who was seeing the same movie as us. There were people...
