Please read through the following comments carefully to see why we are focusing on critical thinking and online research. Make sure to pay special attention to the two comments in highlighted in red:
“The World Wide Web can be a great place to accomplish research on many topics. But putting documents or pages on the web is easy, cheap, or free, unregulated, and unmonitored (at least in the USA). There is a famous Steiner cartoon published in the New Yorker (July 5, 1993) with two dogs sitting before a terminal looking at a computer screen; one says to the other ‘On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog.’ The great wealth that the Internet has brought to so much of society is the ability for people to express themselves, find one another, exchange ideas, discover possible peers worldwide they never would have otherwise met, and, through hypertext links in web pages, suggest so many other people's ideas and personalities to anyone who comes and clicks. There are some real "dogs" out there, but there's also great treasure. Therein lies the rationale for evaluating carefully whatever you find on the Web. The burden is on you — the reader — to establish the validity, authorship, timeliness, and integrity of what you find. Documents can easily be copied and falsified or copied with omissions and errors — intentional or accidental. In the general World Wide Web there are no editors (unlike most print publications) to

So that makes it even more difficult for me to be impressed by any one person in particular. Hopefully, by choosing to write about a group of people who has influenced me, won’t affect my grade. I am influenced by my colleagues. I work with an amazing group of men and women who put their own personal lives on hold and put the welfare...

Strategies for Becoming an Effective Academic Writer

...Strategies for Becoming an Effective Academic Writer COM/150 September 27, 2012 Strategies for Becoming an Effective Academic Writer • Consider how the writing process you read about in this class differs from the process you have used in the past. What specifically have you done in the past compared to what you have read about this week? In the past I never have really created a Thesis Statement, I did not even know what one really was. I use to just run with my thoughts in my writing, I always felt I explained early in the writing what I was trying to get across. After I learned greater detail of a Thesis I went back to look at my previous papers, and I noticed I never had a thesis, it was more along the lines of a point versus explaining my opinion, but I received a grade for having a proper thesis. Another thing that I picked up on was outlining. This is also completely new to me. I always thought outlining was used to just show major points of topics and sub-topics. I have also played with this a little bit, and I have realized this does make the writing process a lot easier as I am not constantly rereading a topic to look for that important point I want to get across to my audience. In the past I have always knew what I wanted to write about, and knew how I wanted to get it across to the readers. I always thought I was a good writer as previously I have never had a Defense Attorney attack my report in a criminal proceeding; I have never left room...

Comprehension Lesson Plan

...interaction with text, and improves through explicit teaching of specific cognitive strategies. More specifically, the rationale for explicitly teaching comprehension skills is that comprehension can be improved by teaching students to reason strategically when they encounter barriers to understanding what they are reading (National Reading Panel, 2000). The NRP reviewed over four hundred studies on text comprehension and found that there are seven instructional strategies that appear to have a solid scientific basis for students to increase comprehension. The first strategy is Comprehension Monitoring which involves students reading text with an aggressive awareness of when they do and don’t understand something. The second strategy is Cooperative Learning, which involves students working on clearly defined reading tasks in small groups or as partners. The third strategy is the Use of Graphic Organizers or Story Maps. This helps display concepts and interrelationships among concepts in text through the use of diagrams. The fourth strategy is Question Answering, which involves students answering questions posed by the teacher, and includes immediate teacher feedback. The fifth strategy is to Generate Questions. This involves teaching students to ask their own questions prior to reading by scanning the text and then having students read the text to answer their questions. The sixth strategy is...

Strategy

...“Strategy articulates the firm’s preferred environment and the type of organisations it is striving to become.” – Hiroyuki Itami. Discuss why an understanding of strategy and strategic management is fundamental to an organisations success. There is no one specific and definitive meaning to the word strategy. You would generally consider strategy to be the process involved in setting goals and objectives and then, ultimately the way's of achieving these goals through the designated and limited resources. Strategy describes how a firm will achieve their goals using the necessary resources. The firms Strategy will generally be established by the leaders in an organisation. Strategy can be intentional or emergent. Mc Keown argued that strategy is about shaping the future. Mintzberg thinks its a pattern in a stream of decisions. Strategic Planning

...IT STRATEGIC PLANNING “You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you are going, because you might not get there.” Yogi Berra BACKGROUND Henry Mintzberg, former president of the Strategic Management Society, points out that “strategy can not be planned because planning is about analysis and strategy is about synthesis.” 1 Failure to recognize this basic distinction accounts for the frequent failure of such exercises, as does an excessive focus on technical detail, lack of suitable leadership, and perhaps most important, failure to align technology to institutional mission and priorities. Strategic planning involves a structure or framework, a set of procedures (both formal and informal), and of course content. Beyond these basic elements, the underlying assumptions about strategic planning are that the future can be anticipated, forecasted, managed or even controlled, and that the best way to do so is to have a formal and integrated plan about it in place. The process of planning itself may turn out to be more important than the results, and that process requires, as Mintzberg suggests, both analysis and synthesis. Planning simply introduces a formal “discipline” for conducting long-term thinking about an institution, and for recognizing opportunities in and for minimizing risks from the external and internal environments. Among the hundreds available, perhaps the most well-know model of strategic planning has the SWOT (for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities...

Ethics

...individual personal commitment of the duty accomplished in the business. An ethical and respectable judging business experience in the work environment is linked to high performing cultures (Williams Institute). The decisions leaders make determine the work environment in which they operate. This paper will explain the role of ethics and social responsibility in developing a strategic plan, considering stakeholder needs, and explain how ethical perspective has evolved throughout the program. Ethics in Organizations An organization needs to adhere to ethics in order to effectively implement its mission, vision, and objectives in a way in which offers a solid foundation to management and their subordinates to properly develop and implement its strategies. By doing so, the organization as a whole is essentially subscribing to one commonality that directs all of the actions of the employees of the organization. Additionally, it assists in preventing such employees from divergence in regard to the proposed strategic guideline. Ethics additionally ensures that a strategic plan is developed in accordance to the interests of the appropriate stakeholders of the organization, both internal and external (Jin & Drozdenko, 2010). Likewise, corporate governance that stems from various regulatory parties makes it necessary for organizations to maintain a high...
