While inaccurate accounting can cause misleading information about the company, every successful company should develop an income statement and balance sheet when monitoring financial growth. Also, formulating a horizontal and ratio analysis creates an accurate trend of the company spending behavior and debt-to-ratio venerability. A balance sheet can be considered as the bloodline of the company, allowing a quick view of financial fluency which could be attractive to outside investors. Last but not least, the income statement presents a hard result of gains, liabilities, revenues and debt within a yearly and quarterly format.
Company Overview (Abstract) The Walmart Corporation first opened in 1962, inspired by Mr. Sam Walton. The vision to serve the local neighborhood with consumer goods in a demographically convenient format was an innovative was to corner the market against its competitors. The main niche behind the great Waldo’s world was the concept of spending less for more product quantity and quality. As time progressed, consumers became loyal to the Walmart brand with the confidence that a value of a product can meet every financial standard when cross price comparison against market competitors. The Walmart Corporation competes in the consumer goods industry consisting of groceries, clothing, electronics, household items, garden accessories and hard ware tools, furniture and financial solutions. Walmart’s competitors would include Big Lot’s, Costco, Dillard’s, Target and Dollar (www.nasdaq.com) general just to name a few. In this paper, I will prepare a Horizontal Analysis of the income statement and balance sheet, with ratio analysis included for the Walmart Corporation.
