Although, I had expected a packed theater, only about forty people were waiting inside. The event started at 6:30 pm when Charlotte Gullick, the chair of the creative a writing department took the stage. After promoting some of creative writing classes at ACC, she described the significance of the Balcones prizes. A teacher from the English department took the stage next to talk a little more about the Balcones prize. He pointed out that Natalie Diaz was the sixteenth winner of this prize. He described Ms. Diaz as a woman with her foot “in three different worlds.” Her childhood was spent on the Mojave reservation in the California Desert. She attended college in Virginia on a basketball scholarship, and from there she played professional basketball in Europe and Asia. After injuring her knee, she left basketball to study poetry in graduate school. Therefore, he claimed, she has a foot in the worlds of the reservation, basketball and poetry. With that, he welcomed Nathalie to the stage. In 2002, Ameenah earned her Bachelor's of Arts in history with a minor in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. From 2000 to 2002, she worked at the National Center for Super Computing Applications Education Outreach and Technology group and focused on educational tools for K-12 math and science using Linux-based clustering technology. From 2004 to 2005 Ameenah worked in the International Braille and Technology Center at the National Center for the Blind. Yaşar² ¹Department of Fashion Design & Department of Psychology, Izmir University of Economics ²Department of Media and Communication, Izmir University of Economics Abstract The study of examined that gender and age-related differences in seat-belt usage or not usage at different travelling conditions. Moreover, seat belt usage or not usage was related with license year, active year on the traffic, daily time at traffic and place is examined. Firstly observed was done and after that face-to-face interviewing was made with 150 interviewees, who were different gender and at different age. Reported seat belt usage reasons were “safety”, “inexperienced”, “avoiding punishment”, and “previous crash experiences”. Not using seat belt reasons were reported “situational conditions”, “being at traffic continuously”, “discomfort” and “over trust to the driver”. “Safety” was the most mentioned reason for using seat belt and “being at traffic continuously” was the most common reason to not using a seat belt. Results showed that gender differences for seat belt usage, women used the seat belt more than men and being female and being older were effected the seat belt usage rate. Influencing people to change is more dependent on showing them a truth that influences their feelings, rather than shifting their thinking (Kotter & Cohen, 2002, p. 1). If leaders can change the behavior of members of an organization, the successful large-scale change they are seeking will more likely be realized. According to Kotter and Cohen, in order to achieve successful large-stage change, there are first eight stages that must be followed. These steps are: increasing urgency, building the guiding team, getting the vision right, communicate for buy-in, empower action, create short-term wins, don't let up, and making change stick (Kotter & Cohen, 2002, p. 6). While organizational change does not necessary require each of these steps to occur, or in the exact specified order, they provide a basic pattern for leaders to use to influence behavior and create change (Kotter & Cohen, 2002, p.7). An alternative to the eight steps suggested by Kotter and Cohen is the Model of Organizational Change and Development.
