Police officers lack accountability, which is a main factor in police brutality. According to researchers of police administrators, it did not help matters. They argued that police responded defensively to community concerns (Bach, 2014). Accountability is defined as being held accountable or responsible for ones’ actions. Police officers do these things and never get reprimanded for it. As a result, they keep doing what they want. The society understands these consequences. The known consequence surrounding these facts is that our lives are put at risk by the police because of our color. They use race to their advantage to incarcerate the innocent. We see this every day as it happens across the nation. Even when we are not at fault, the media

Rodney King Research Paper

...King Beating on American Society Throughout history, police brutality against the black community has been ignored by the government, yet the Rodney King beating stands out as the most enduring and impactful event for catalyzing significant change. The video footage of King being brutally beaten by four officers, despite his lack of resistance, shocked the nation. Argumentative Essay On Police Brutality

...democracy and the ‘champion’ of human rights in the world. The United States of America is at a critical stage in its historical development poised between political regression and economic decomposition. The year 2014 was marred with a myriad of African-American shootings, incarceration of protesters and other deplorable acts of police brutality. It is my view in this paper that these incidences are much more profound and anchored in historical aspects the most astounding being racism and oppressive legislation proffered since the days of slavery and Black oppression. I will deliberately use the ‘Black and White’ epithet so as to traverse my arguments. The years in between the Occupy Wall...

Ethics

...Ethics in Policing Darlene Freeman CRIJ 5322 Introduction This paper explains issues that shape the role of ethics in policing. Police ethics involves hard choices as well as avoiding violations of basic moral standards. Police officers inevitably face ethical issues when it comes to what’s right or wrong. The authority that police officer are given to protect the public presents the temptation to abuse the power that’s given to them. This paper will explain the rule- of-law and how it represents societal standards that define police duties and responsibilities. Police officers are given a significant amount of discretion simply due to the nature of their job. Officers are faced with many threatening situations forcing them to react quickly yet appropriately. They have the power to infringe upon any citizen’s rights to freedom and therefore must use their power effectively. One major concern with a number of discretion officers have is their power to decide when to use force or when to use lethal force (Lee, Lim, Moore, & Kim, 2013) Additionally, public perception of policing will be discussed, police brutality and due process within the criminal justice system. Accountability is one of the most important components when it comes to public perception of police officers. When officers begin to use force to control the community, citizens began to review officers as authority figures instead of protecting and serving the community. This results in a breakdown...

...In 2018, Police have killed 352 people in the United State. Since the beginning of law enforcement brutality in the early 1900s, officers have not been convicted of violent crimes after incidents dealing with the abusive use of power and violence. Since the mid-1900s, people in the United States have spoken out in demand for justice, just to be neglected by the government. The government has not been able to change the structure of policing to cut down on police violence even though there are proven solutions. For these reasons, John Locke’s social contract that says that the government derives from the people has been broken. The government has not acted on this issue even after millions of Americans have spoken out in the form of marches...

Crime Scene

...Recent months have seen a surge in allegations of police brutality and excessive use of force when making arrests. In fact, some allegations have seen the police being accused of committing murder against civilians. Policemen, mostly whites, have been alleged to have been involved in the killings of civilians mostly from the African American race. The United States has grown to be polarized on the basis of race. In a bid to enhance accountability in the face of such serious accusations, the American media has been active in covering crime scenes mostly involving the police and civilians. From an analytical point of view, media coverage of crime scene, as unethical as it may seem, has been able to enhance professionalism that crime scene operations are conducted with. Through the rigorous news coverage expeditions that media houses and other private practitioners have perfected in recent months, the evil of police brutality has been exposed to the public. The kind of police brutality that has been reported and, in most instances recorded, by media houses and other media platforms brings to the fore the question of whether crime scene operations in the United States are conducted in adherence to the ethical code of conduct set for such operations. In a span of just about six months, video recordings of real life crime scene operations conducted by the police have indicated the unprofessionalism that lies within the American police force. This prompts the contentious question...

Police Brutality

...Assignment 2 Police Brutality Police abuse continues to be one of the most serious and harsh human rights violations in minority communities. However, it is particularly interesting that such violence and viciousness by police officials has managed to go unnoticed within the justice system and overlooked for so long. Police officers have too much control and power and they sometimes abuse their authority. The excessive use of force used by police officers continues because of barriers of immunity which make it possible for officers who commit such brutal acts to escape punishment and often to repeat their offenses. Police brutality is a serious problem and if this barbarity by police officers is allowed to continue, the citizens in these communities will not only need protection from criminals, but the police that are recruited to protect and serve our communities. In recent months, citizens in urban communities worry about protecting themselves from criminals and now have to keep an attentive focus on those who are there to protect and serve. Police brutality not only affects the officer involved, the victim of the beating and those who witness the incident, but the minority community as a whole. It changes the way communities and the individual citizens view police officers and the authority they uphold. Often these citizens are unsure of the rights they have against such cruel acts of violence which forces them to endure excessive force and the thin line that police officers...

Persuasive Essay On Abu Ghraib

...treatment of prisoners that is performed behind prison walls. This military prison housed Iraq’s seized in ostensible connection with the war on terrorism. These individuals are those whom would not be given the opportunity to secure their release by establishing their innocents (Margulies, 2004). What was thought to be a humane source of a military prison was later identified as a prison used to brutally scrutinize detained Iraqis. The torturous acts performed, vile conditions, and weekly executions are difficult to believe to be performed by U.S. soldiers, but it is an individual’s personal choice to act upon poor discretion, which is demonstrated within the prison of Abu Ghraib. Abu Ghraib received its notorious reputation from the brutality towards detained Iraqis from U.S. solders, within this military prison. This treatment involved acts that are unfathomable to any individual who is able to understand how to perform proper discretion. The information that reached the media on behalf of the conditions within this specific military prison was brought to the attention of the pubic eye through photographs linking U.S. soldiers to inhumane acts towards the opposing party at the time of war. Eleven U.S. soldiers are convicted of crimes that were linked to the conditions within the Abu Ghraib prison. Conditions within Abu Ghraib ranged from sexually exploiting detained Iraqis, harassing detainees with dogs that where not muzzled, forcing detainees to masturbate while photographed...

Police Brutality Against Minorities

...Police Brutality against Minorities Tiffany Harris ENG/147 November 23, 2015 University Of Phoenix Back in 2000 my cousin Andre Harris was killed by a Correctional Police Officer in front of a crack house. Did you know back in 2000 Trayvon Martin was killed by a neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman, my point is when is it going to stop? They were two authority figures who didn’t serve their community in a good way. The 1,217 deadly police shootings from 2010 to 2012 captured in the federal data show that African Americans, age 15 to 19, were killed at a rate of 31.17 per million, while just 1.47 per million white males in that age range died at the hands of police, insert the paraphrased material (“Deadly Force, in Black and White,” 2014) . That’s why I don’t understand the term Black Lives Matter, because every life matter when it’s taken away by violence by the police or by one each other. A great deal of society views officers as heroic and honorable individuals, whose purpose is to protect and serve the community. For so many officers, this description is true, however for others; violence and brutality against innocent people is part of getting the job done so should we consider that as protection. For so many years, minorities have fallen victim to police brutality based on racial profiling, stereotypes and other reasons that has cost innocent lives. The involvement of police officers in police brutality against minority groups causes...
