...The decline in the number of CAT-takers continued as this year saw around 1.85L students appearing for CAT 2011, a significant drop (Ref. graph) from CAT 2010. Put this in perspective, this number also includes the JMET applicants who would have applied for the IIT-SOMs. Looking at this trend I can’t help but think about the future of CAT and consequently about the applicants for IIMs. CAT has lost its claws – Like it or not! With the new format and the blunders of CAT 2009, all has been ensured that CAT loses its edginess and is no longer one of the most ‘feared’ examinations around. The hype did contribute to no. of applications. But the age of hype is over. Vendors have messed up and been shuffled around. The online CAT is still evolving and nowhere close to the GMAT pattern that it so miserably tries to emulate. It is no longer a pencil-paper test and draws only crowds from metros (close to 70%) with reports suggesting that an online CAT repels students from smaller towns and villages. Adding to the misery is the fact that acing the CAT doesn’t guarantee you squat. You could make headlines for being a 100 percentile-guy, but pray to God that you don’t make another headline that says, “Now, IIMs don’t even want their100-percentile guys”. Students will slowly understand this complication and steer away from CAT if such a trend continues. In such an event, I won’t be surprised when there comes a day when there aren’t even 1 lakh students to write the CAT. Outcome – CAT...

...ABSTRACT While outsourcing internal audit function in the private sector has been extensively Investigated by various researchers (Carey and Chua, 1999; Petravick, 1997; and Sharma and Subramaniam, 200l; amongst others), there is scant empirical data from the public sector. This study attempts to fill the gap by providing some preliminary evidence in food and beverages industry. Using responses from 3 firms which includes Dangote flour mills, UAC and Northern Nigeria flour mills plc, the study found that more than 85% of the respondents had either fully outsourced or co-sourced their internal audit function. Further, non-department entities were found to more likely to fully outsource their internal audit function than the departments. Lack of technological know-how and service quality of external providers seem to outrank cost-related factors as reasons for outsourcing. The study also raises several issues in relation to a lack of segregation of duties in the process of selecting and monitoring outsourced arrangements. Implications for policy setting and avenues for future research avenues are discussed. INTODUCTION In today’s business environment, outsourcing processes to a third party has become relatively commonplace. The practice gives organizations an opportunity to gain efficiencies, improve performance, lower costs, and focus on core competencies. Many businesses, however, fail to complete necessary due diligence work before the outsourcing relationship begins and neglect...

In other words, the capital inflows from abroad that is invested in to improve the production capability of the economy. FDI has seen a spectacular growth in the last two decades globally. Policies are formulated in order to accelerate inward flows. ...LEADERSHIP AND EXPECTATIONS: PYGMALION EFFECTS AND OTHER SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECIES IN ORGANIZATIONS Dov Eden Tel Aviv University The Pygmalion effect is a type of self-fulfilling prophecy (SFP) in which raising manager expectations regarding subordinate performance boosts subordinate performance. Managers who are led to expect more of their subordinates lead them to greater achievement. Programmatic research findings from field experiments are reviewed, and our present knowledge about the Pygmalion effect in the management of industrial, sales, and military organizations is summarized. A model is presented in which leadership is hypothesized to be the key mediator through which manager expectations influence motivation, effort, and performance. The subordinate self-efficacy, performance expectations, behaviors that comprise the Pygmalion Leadership Style are described. Besides creating the one-onone Pygmalion effect, additional ways for managers to assert their leadership by creating productive organizationwide SFP are suggested. An agenda for research on SFP applications is proposed. Expectations play an important role in determining leadership effectiveness. Scholars and practitioners have assumed for a long time that leaders who expect more get more (e.g., Likert, 1961, 1967; McGregor, 1960). Despite this general awareness, until recently there was little empirical research illuminating how and why leader expectation effects operate...

...DOLAT CAPITAL Indian IT Sector India Research Billion Dollar Dream...!!! Sr. Analyst: Rahul Jain Tel : +9122 4096 9754 E-mail: rahul@dolatcapital.com December 21, 2012 DOLAT CAPITAL December 21, 2012 Int en tio na lly Le ft B lan k 2 DOLAT CAPITAL ”A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step” - Lao-tzu, the ancient Chinese philosopher Billion Dollar Dream The Indian IT Services sector, estimated at USD 90bn, has predominantly focused on the global markets which generate more than 75% of revenues. The industry has spread far and wide with over four thousand players comprising of global MNCs, Indian players, Captives and small scale set ups. As is natural for any sector, the top five have consolidated to garner a significant share of the revenues ( 37%) while the top ten have taken 41% share of the total revenues. This has primarily been driven by the ability to scale and offer multiple service capability. The smaller players have been either de rated by circumstances, and hence gone down the margin curve or ended up taking bets that have gone the wrong direction. This trend over the last few years has led to a significant divergence in the size and structure of the Indian IT services sector – there are players with size of USD 2-10 bn range competing with the global players, and then we have a set of relatively smaller service providers in the revenue size of sub USD 500 mn still around. And some of these now are emerging into credible...
