Patho Case Study 1

...hypertension. Given the fact that he is of older age, K.H. is more at risk because the 1risk of high blood pressure increases as you age. High blood pressure is more common in males at his 2age. High blood pressure is particularly common among African-Americans, so the fact that K.H. is African American poses a higher risk. His heart rate is normal and the description does not indicate family history of hypertension, but it is noted that K.H is 30 pounds over his ideal weight. Persons who are overweight have a higher risk of developing hypertension. Due to the fact that K.H. has been placed on a salt restricted diet, it is safe to assume that he was consuming high amounts of sodium in his diet prior, which is a primary risk factor of hypertension. K.H.âs has a systolic pressure is 135 and the diastolic pressure is 96. This is stage 1 hypertension. The rationale for treating the patient with an ACE inhibitor is that Angiotensin II needs to be controlled because that is what ultimately is narrowing the blood vessels and causing the blood pressure to increase. An ACE inhibitor slows the production of Angiotensin II. The mechanism of action includes the modification of the production of Angiotensin II. This is a vasoconstrictor. Vasoconstriction is what leads to the elevation of B/P. Angiotensin II is made from angiotensin I through the means of the angiotensin converting enzyme. ACE inhibitors impede the activity of the enzyme ACE and this leads to the decrease in production of...

Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act (ADA)

...Carley is an accountant at Ace Accounting and claims she is victim of pay discrimination based on her age. The Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 protects against pay discrimination based on age and other factors. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) would not protect Carley since she is only 27 years old. Carley alleges that co-worker Jeffrey Jackson is being paid $7,000 more per year; reason being Jackson has a masters degree and therefore his pay is based on merit. Carley also alleges that co-worker Melissa Matthews who has less seniority was eligible for promotion. In this case, Mathew’s stellar performance justified promotion. Jeffrey’s superior education and Melissa’s work performance are based on measurable criteria which justifies their rate of pay and...

...Administration of Early childhood development journal As it can be noted from life’s experience and learning, people at their younger age tend to learn and emulate a lot from older people. It is thus necessary to have someone who is well knowledgeable to lead them. Children should have this person to follow and emulate as an example to them. Guiding them in various aspects of learning is also important. Having someone who has a good knowledge of the children is very important when it comes to guiding them. As a leader, from the school I earlier taught, there are several qualities that they should hold or be associated with. Such a leader should always be dedicated. As someone leading a child, they should always be apt and have full dedication to leading the child. This is because children tend to demand a lot of time and attention. Such a leader should cultivate the required qualities. Activity mode aims to provide quality study notes and tutorials to the students of ECE 312 WEEK 1 JOURNAL in order to ace their studies. Nadine Burke's Theory Of Childhood Trauma

...Harris’s practice, the Center for Wellness was opened to prevent, screen, and heal the impacts of ACES and toxic shock. They did this by completing routine screenings. Once they know that a child has been exposed they use a multidisciplinary approach to combat the adversity. This includes but is not limited to home visits, medications, mental health care, and holistic healing (Harris, 2014). The issue is that not all health care providers are trained on this matter or are not using the screening tools efficiently in order to help combat adverse effects. Nadine Burke Harris addressed the macro social level of social environments in terms of their implications for development among children facing maltreatment by calling for change of policies in organizations such as the American Pediatric Association. The APA should be reasonable for adopting ACES screening as a standard of practice. They also need to set guidelines of treatment for children exposed to ACES. Finally, they need to set guidelines on how to aggressively medically treat children exposed to ACES because they are at such high risks for...

Following oral ingestion and absorption of ramipril, it is hydrolysed in the liver to its active form ramiprilat that acts on the renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAS). It competitively binds to angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) to prevent the cleaving of angiotensin II from angiotensin I, directly inhibiting the actions of angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, thus exerting its haemodynamic effects. It also results in the accumulation of bradykinin a potent vasodilator, which is usually broken down by ACE, resulting in cough as a side effect for some patients. Figure 1. Pharmacological action of ramipril Introduction Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are used for the treatment of cardiovascular disease in people with diabetes. Ramipril is a second-generation ACE inhibitor, and is prescribed in patients with diabetes for several clinical indications including the management of hypertension, following myocardial...

...Data Collection - Ace Cable RES 351 Data Collection - Ace Cable As stated in the week two, Ace Cable is an established company that offers cable television, telephone and internet services to its customers. These services are available to customers across the United States and they have been in business since 2000. In recent years, the competition has grown and Ace Cable is experiencing a decrease in customer enrollments. Customers now have multiple options to consider before enrolling into an agreement and Ace Cable is conducting research to persuade more people to sign on with the company. The research included defining the population from which the samples were collected. When it comes to the population and the different samples collected, the main goal is to focus on customers and provide outstanding services by conducting customer interviews, and surveys including group interviews of all ages. There are several methods that have taken place concerning collecting samples. The individual interviews we have collected were samples by applying surveys, from face to face interviews, in-store feedback, and telephone surveys. These surveys and interviews are conducted on a daily basis. These surveys are taking place in order to better our business when it comes to Ace cable. Individuals are completing surveys by voicing their opinions when it comes to the services and the channels that are selected. By having these surveys and interviews in place, we are...

...other people,” (Santrock, 23). Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory is a well rounded view of life- span development, it incorporates important conflicts during each stage of development that most people can relate to and apply to their own development. Erikson’s theory has eight stages of development and a corresponding age range for each stage. The first stage is known as trust versus mistrust, which occurs from birth to a child’s first year, during this stage the infant learns that he or she is able to either trust the caregiver or develop a distrust of their caregiver. The second stage is known as autonomy versus shame and doubt, during this stage the child, usually 1 to 3 years of age, learns to either develop their own autonomy and independence or if reprimanded too severely they will develop shame when exerting independence. The third stage is known as initiative versus guilt, which occurs from ages 3- 6, in this stage the child uses their newfound independence to cultivate his or her self efficacy and if the child is discouraged from doing so he or she may develop guilt about taking initiative. The fourth stage, industry versus inferiority, occurs between ages 6-11, when the child experiences elementary school, during this stage the child either masters their...

Cellular Aging

...replicate the ends of linear molecules therefore the ends of telomeres are not fully replicated causing telomeres to shorten with each replication in somatic cells (Epel et. al). As a result, their length are typically used as a measure of biological “age”. Additionally, telomerase is another crucial component considered to analyze cellular aging. Telomerase is an enzyme that catalyzes the addition of required T2AG3 repeats onto 3’ ends of the telomeres; individuals with diminished telomerase may suffer from shortened telomeres (Epel et. al). Zglinicki et. al has demonstrated in vitro that oxidative stress can result in shortened telomeres and notably perceived stress has been linked to oxidative stress in leukocytes. Epel et. al hypothesize that chronic psychological stress may result in telomere shortening, oxidative stress, and reduced telomerase activity in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Objective and subjective stress is studied to examine its importance in cellular aging. To differentiate subjective and objective stress 58 healthy premenopausal mothers of either a healthy (control mothers) or chronically ill child (caregiving mothers) were studied. There are many factors that may alter any conclusive results such as age, BMI, smoking, use of...
