...Actors and Acting | The text defines five types of actors: Impersonator, Personality, Star, Wild Card, and Character. Come up with examples of each type of actor (in addition to those identified in the text) and explain in detail why you think they fit each particular category. In this chapter, I learned that there are five different types of actors; Impersonator, Personality, Star, Wild Card and Character. A great example of impersonator would be Chris Tucker from the movies “Rush Hour”, “Friday” and “House Party 3.” I think that all the characters that he plays in all these movies depict and behave in really life. In this text the term impersonator is considered demeaning in the acting world suggesting that the actor has simply copied the manner, dialect, and behavior of a character, instead of creating the character. (Goodykoontz, & Jacobs, 2011) Personality actors would be Mark Wahlberg from the movies “The Three Kings”, “Shooter” and “The Departed” is great examples of how Mark uses his strong personality and bad attitude to play the character in these movies. The star type actor to me would be Sandra Bullock because of the way the people interested in her and her relationships and the money she gets per movie. I think a great wild card would be Mikey Rourke because he can play any character from good to bad guys; a great example of a movie for him would be “The Wrestler”. A character type actor to me would Jonah Hill because the characters that he plays in the movies...

...MAJOR ACTOR The main actor in this case is Hai Gan. He is 56 years old, of the Colony, Texas. He is a legal permanent resident who lives outside Dallas, used three homes he owned in Albuquerque and Moriarty to establish residency in New Mexico for 51 undocumented immigrants living in other states. Gan is one of several people who have been prosecuted in recent years for running such rings in New Mexico, which is one of just a few states that let residents get driver's license regardless of their immigration status. Castellano said Gan disguised his New Mexico properties to look like apartments, he advised people against talking to authorities, and he rarely accompanied his clients to the Department of Motor Vehicles to avoid being recognized. But Gan's attorney, Francisco Mario Ortiz, said his client believed he was acting lawfully when he advertised his services to immigrants around the country. And he said he never asked if the customers were in the country legally or not. He also pointed out that many spoke good English, were well-dressed and well-educated. The complaint alleges he charged clients upward of $2,000 each to secure driver’s licenses between 2009 and 2011. He found guilty on 51 counts of fraud in connection with identification documents, eight count of transporting undocumented immigrants, three counts of money laundering and two counts of witness tampering. In May 2011, Border Patrol agents stopped Gan and two clients in a black Chevrolet Blazer at an Interstates...

...HOW ACTORS CONTRIBUTE TO A FILM Actors are a vital contribution to a film, for without the actors there would be no film. To become an actor, one must possess a great deal of talent. This person must be able to portray the character as described by the director, and make the audience believe the reality of this character, not only by the words they speak in his or her respective roles, but by their emotions, facial expressions, and physical movements. This person must also be able to grab and hold the attention of the audience, and keep them entertained. What is the goal of acting? The ultimate goal of any actor should be to make the audience completely believe in the reality of the character. (Boggs & Petrie, 2008) There many ways, also known as “methods” actors may adopt to achieve their goal. One way is called the GOTE method. GOTE is a very easy to remember acronym that stands for Goal, Obstacle, Tactics and Expectation. This is a very basic approach to breaking down a character. (Russell) Goal is what the character is going after, the whole purpose for the script. The Obstacle is what stands in the way of the goal and is a direct opposition to the goal. Tactics are what the character uses to overcome the obstacles and reach the goal. The Tactics is what makes the character real, and shows the audience what type of person they are. Tactics can be funny, honorable, deceitful, etc. The Expectation gives the tone and excitement to the Tactics...

...“The Actors Modern Bible” Konstantin Stanislavski created a form of acting that has shaped the way in which acting is taught and learned today. Stanislavski was a pioneer of this new type of acting style that involved more then just focusing on physical vocal training. His new and innovative style was focused on developing an actors ability to use his or her emotional or internal state and applying it to their performance. Stanislavski calls this method the “art of experiencing”. This allows an actor to activate his or her subconscious behavior and apply it to their performance. He talks about how the motive of the actor will justify an action in a scene. Through this method Stanislovski has helped the development of truly “experiencing...

In the 1970s, Bruno Latour (a French anthropologist and social scientist) and Steve Woolgar (a British sociologist) undertook ethnographic field work at the Salk Institute in California. This research was inspired by grounded theory and Latour and Woolgar approached their study of work in the endocrinology laboratory as if they were anthropologists observing a hitherto unknown and strange set of practices. In other words, they did not fit their observations into any preconceived notions of scientific method, or how science 'should' be done. The resulting, highly influential book Laboratory Life: The Social Construction of Scientific Facts(1979, re-released...

...The Rise and Fall of Child Actors Cute button noses, precocious humor, sassy acting—child stars can make any audience fall in love with them. But what happens when they are all grown up? They say the brightest stars burn out the fastest. Child actors are just like us, they go through growth spurts, but also have to face the day to day adult issues like sex, drugs, and the pressure of a job. The sad truth is we think about the welfare of young performers primarily when we are reminded of the dangers they face. Child actors primarily serve as the family breadwinner once their parents decide it is time to seek stardom. The pressure to be older than they are is a huge issue, they want to look older so they start taking drugs, partying and getting drunk. Most child actors do not know who they are enough to deal with the pressure of fame and the outside influences that surround the entertainment industry. For a child actor to be successful they need a strong family. It is up to the parents to let their kids be kids, but many parents forget what is important and the money consumes them and their children. Yet for every broken family in Hollywood there is also a success story to be told. Maculay Culkin is a prime example of how parents of child actors let the money get in the way of their family. His fame led to the downfall of his whole family, and he started using drugs and disappeared from the Hollywood scene. He divorced his parents and took control of his earnings...

...“Discuss the contribution of Actor-Network Theory to our understanding of management accounting and control in organisations that have adopted ERPS technologies.” Over the past decade, management accounting has seen an extraordinary rise in technology driven innovations, whereby Hyvonen (2008) explains how this has contributed to the emergence of virtual organisations. The power of ICT plays a pivotal role in many organisations, through providing a basis for managing efficient operations and formulating corporate strategy. Moreover, Bhimani et al (2008) explains how ICT provides the opportunity to alleviate the problems associated with information flows in organisations with fragmented information systems. In practice, Hyvonen (2008) notes that the centralised control of large organisations requires ICT systems that make the periphery visible to the centre. The enterprise wide resource planning system (ERP System) is an example of an ICT system which coordinates all the resources, activities and corporate information of an organisation into one central database that collects data and feeds it into multiple applications that support all business activities of an organisation. Furthermore, it has been suggested that such systems facilitate unprecedented levels of organisational integration (Dechow and Mouritsen, 2005) and thus ERP systems have provided a new platform for organisations to thrive and develop a competitive advantage. Actor-Network Theory is a constructivist and...

...This has been characterized by the numerous strikes and news reports of the actions and statements of the principal actors involved. The recent TCL strike (Newsday, 2012), statements threatening strike action by PSA president (Guardian, 2010), and threats to the government for a nationwide strike (CARICOM News Network, 2011) all give credence to the concerns of the ECA “that the industrial relations climate will become increasingly adversarial”(Business Guardian, 2011). This type of conflict and balance of power issues in the long-term can have adverse economic consequences as well as a negative effect on international competitiveness. The term ‘Industrial Relations’, in a broad sense, covers the employment relationship between employers and employees either directly or through their representatives. An explanation of Industrial Relations which clearly identifies the principal actors is:- “the relationships between employees and employers within the organisational settings. The field of industrial relations looks at the relationship between management and workers, particularly groups of workers represented by a union. Industrial relations are basically the interactions between employers, employees and the government, and the institutions and associations through which such interactions are mediated” (Naukrihub.com). Actors and their roles A key actor identified in the definition is the employer. The employer according to Burchill, 2008 may be from the Public or...

...The Thinker and The Acter In the play Hamlet the Hamlet and Claudius are two very different people, while Claudius using his power as king and wealth to force his will upon others with out any thought Hamlet relied on his relationships and connections with other to get the job done after great calculation. Claudius is not fully developed as a character within the play. His main role in the play is to be the reason behind Hamlet's confusion and anger, and his search for truth and life's true meaning. But Claudius is not a static character. While his traits are not as greatly explored as Hamlet's, you can still see the great difference between our dark hero Hamlet and Claudius treacherous, usurping King of Denmark. When Claudius is first introduced to the audience , he comes across as an intelligent and very capable king. He gives a speech to make his court and country proud, speaking on his brother's death and the inpendeing conflict with Norway. Claudius knows that this switch in government could give way to problems, and he is afraid of possible bad allegiances and rebellion. His speech compares the people's loss with the new beginning they will have under his protection, and he uses the death of Hamlet's father to bring about a sense of unity , "the whole kingdom/To be contracted in one brow of woe" (1.2.3-4). Claudius takes on the role of chief mourner, and the people are able to unite under the collective suffering. He can now focus on his kingly duties, and he...

...I was given some advice by my theatre teacher last January. “The real difference between New York and Chicago actors, in my experience at least, is this: In a New York actor’s break, he’s on the phone with his agent, trying to figure out where he’s going to perform next. In a Chicago actor’s break, he’s in the green room, eating stale snacks and swapping dirty jokes with the other actors. Chicago actors, in my opinion… They’re really just much more in the moment.” I nodded, wondering how we had gotten here from a conversation about how well the musical Urinetown would do as a movie, and put it entirely out of mind. In September I was given some advice again, this time by my mother. “The University of Chicago’s visiting your school on...

...4/8/2013 Chapter 7 Cletis Hubbard 1. Identify and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a bureaucratically organized legal profession. “Bureaucratic organizational structures have numerous layers of management, cascading down from senior executives to regional managers to departmental managers, all the way down to shift supervisors who work alongside frontline employees. Due to the many layers of management, decision-making authority has to pass through a larger number of layers than with flatter organizations. Refund decisions, for example, may have to pass from frontline employees, through shift supervisors, to store managers for a retail outlet in a bureaucratic company.” Some advantages are: “Top-level managers in bureaucratic organizational structures exercise a great deal of control over organizational strategy decisions, which is ideal for business owners with a command and control style. Strategic decision-making time can be shorter in a tall organizational structure, since less individuals are involved in the process. Standardization and best-practices are often highlights in companies with tall organizational structures, ensuring that work is consistently completed efficiently and effectively.” And some disadvantages are: “Bureaucratic structures can discourage creativity and innovation throughout the organization. No matter how ingenious a business owner is, it is virtually impossible for a single individual to generate the range of strategic...
