Introduction

This lab introduces the concepts of pump characteristics, which are needed to maximize the efficiency of a pump for a particular type of application. The lab also introduces the methods to determine the characteristics of the pump. The experiment is conducted using a parallel-series centrifugal pump test rig.

Objectives

The objective of this experiment is to determine the pump characteristics H versus Q, P, versus Q, and versus Q at a given speed. The experiment also aims to verify speed laws Q N and H N2 for the same pump.

Procedure

* Set the motor speed to the testing value (2000 rpm in this case) and the valve fully open, using the speed controller button on the control panel * Determine the mass required to balance the torque arm * Determine the head using pressure gauges * Determine the flow rate using the flow meter * Repeat the experiment with different valve setting for the same motor speed

Results
