...searching the internet, I came across this article which discusses the importance of understanding different culture and discusses how effective communication can be an important part in success of multicultural construction projects. And we all know that team coordination practices vary with national culture. Experts have warned that engineering education fails to prepare engineers for these differences. This paper discusses the cases of Project Managers of UK and Kenya through their 20 interviews (10 each from both the countries) and shows that communications within multicultural project environments can be effective when project managers demonstrate an awareness of cultural variation in terms of the body language and day to day routine. It shows that one of the critical components of building multicultural project teams is the effective communication between the client, project manager and project team which ultimately helps in building trust and collectivism which is crucial for a project’s success. The study also emphasizes on an urgent need for future research to investigate effective guidelines/strategies for effective communication in multicultural project teams. I...

...Kudler Fine Foods MKT421 January 04, 2012 Kudler Fine Foods The purpose of this paper is to analyze the marketing plan used by Kudler Fine Foods and to identify three additional areas where Kudler Fine Foods needs to focus additional market research. Kudler Fine Foods is an upscale specialty grocery store that provides personalized service to its customers. Following the four P’s of the marketing mix she found her product, gourmet food, and her place, a upscale shopping sent in La Jolla. Following this she continued with the marketing plan and researched the competitors and used the averages for that market to set the prices of her products. Finally, Kudler Fine Foods uses the Internet to provide promotional information on the products and services offered by Kudler Fine Foods. ...Australia. Email: sue_bennett@uow.edu.au Abstract The idea that a new generation of students is entering the education system has excited recent attention among educators and education commentators. Termed ‘digital natives’ or the ‘Net generation’, these young people are said to have been immersed in technology all their lives, imbuing them with sophisticated technical skills and learning preferences for which traditional education is unprepared. Grand claims are being made about the nature of this generational change and about the urgent necessity for educational reform in response. A sense of impending crisis pervades this debate. However, the actual situation is far from clear. In this paper, the authors draw on the fields of education and sociology to analyse the digital natives debate. The paper presents and questions the main claims made about digital natives and analyses the nature of the debate itself. We argue that rather than being empirically and theoretically informed, the debate can be likened to an academic form of a ‘moral panic’. We propose that a more measured and disinterested approach is now required to investigate ‘digital natives’ and their implications for education. The one thing that does not change is that at any and every time it appears that there have been ‘great...

...Dim, flickering room lights, on at odd hours. The sound of powerful taps on a screen. Bleary eyes scanning the screen, rapid fusion of disparate information, brain whirring in a consistent, cyclic process. These actions form the substance of research; the substance of my identity. I was diagnosed with hyperactive and inattentive ADHD as a child, resulting in unfocused daydreaming, mental and physical restlessness, isolation in test rooms and being singled out in classrooms. Severe ADHD was an enormous burden for a child to experience and dare to succeed with, especially when nobody other than my parents, and my cousin Ha, truly understood me. While other children constructed life in coloring books and playgrounds, I used paper, markers, and my imagination to shape North Atlantic Coasts. Spending hours searching up everything from the strength of Typhoon Tip to the event horizon of black holes – books and research became the only devices that could quell the uncontrollable energy inside....

...“What’s that?” you wonder as you look out your window. A small group of people is gathered on the sidewalk at the end of the wisteria gardens in front of the main headquarters of Procter & Gamble. If you squint, you can see they’re holding signs, but the only text you can make out is the word “PETA” in big letters across the bottom. “Just great,” you think to yourself. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the animal-rights group more commonly know by the acronym PETA, raises more than $25 million a year from its 1.6 million members and supporters. PETA not only campaigns for animal rights but also funds less known animal-rights groups to engage in activism. PETA is extremely adept at organizing public campaigns and mobilizing the public to boycott companies. Its public-relations tactics include celebrity endorsements, traveling displays of animal abuse, and creative on-site demonstrations. Even large international companies like McDonald’s, Burger King, and KFC have bowed to pressure from PETA. In response to aggressive campaigns, all three have issued strict humane animal handling guidelines to suppliers of beef, pork, and chicken and enforce those standards with unannounced audits of production farms and processing plants. PETA has been known to use pretty crude tactics. In one instance, a viral ad featuring scantily clad women with cow udders instead of breasts was distributed in the UK as part of a campaign against milk drinking and production. PETA had hoped...

... All along, human beings have thought of themselves as being different from other animals in the animal kingdom. The basis of this view is the clear marked biological and behavioral differences between human beings and other primates. Most human beings however, have little knowledge on the behavioral and biological capabilities of other primates. The media has contributed in propagating this notion today through advertising and various television programs. For many years, Behavioral Psychology has taught that primate behavior just entails patterns of responses to immediate stimuli in their environment. However, this notion is decreasing as more human beings have become aware of the concept of biological and behavioral continuum. This paper will prove that even though human beings seem unique from other primate species, they all trace to a common ancestry, with similar behaviors, and biological set up, though appearing in varied degrees. In this behavioral and biological continuum, different animal species hold different positions. The determinant of this categorization bases on a quantitative, rather than a qualitative approach. Humans rank as the most intelligent of all the other primates. This is the case if we define intelligence depending on thought patterns and ability to solve problems. Intelligence is a product of brain organ, which all primates own. The differences in intelligence level between human beings and other primates therefore, rest on the differences...

...| A CRITICAL PERSPECTIVE ON STRATEGIC CSR AS A TOOL FOR MARKETING AND BRAND DIFFERENTIATION | | | Mattias Norén, Niklas Nygård | 2014-01-16 | | “What are the underlying reasons for abusive Strategic CSR in marketing and brand differentiation, what are the consequences and are there any solutions?” Introduction to CSR For Corporate social responsibility(CSR) a lot of different definitions exists but the one we chose to use in this report was defined by (McWilliams, Siegel och Wright)) as “actions that appear to further some social good, beyond the interests of the firm and that which is required by law”. This definition defines a wide concept that contains everything from corporate environmental strategies, employee empowerment, health and benefit plans for employees and corporate philanthropy. The linking factor between these different implementations is that corporations and businesses should expand their responsibility beyond absolute necessity and their core stakeholders group. While CSR is very modern as a defined concept it is still based on a lot of old ideas. For example many companies in the late 1800s based its business on scientific betterment which often meant that employee benefits was taken a lot further than the requirements of the law (Barley och Kunda). Today CSR has evolved to something more than the initial idea of expanded responsibility and it’s used as a tool for companies to reach goals outside of areas normally connected to CSR...
