Chapter 8 Assignment and Rubric

Assignment:

You know that colors look different when viewed indoors under fluorescent light and outdoors in sunlight. 1. Propose a hypothesis to explain why the colors look different under the different kinds of light. The colors would look different under a fluorescent lights due to the lower temperature and energy produced by the flourcent light, under sunlight which is much more powerful the colors under the fluorescent light would be much more colorful and bright compared to the sunlight which would absorb and wear out the colors.
2. Design an experiment to test your hypothesis. Include in your design a. the experimental procedure you would use- I would use the procedure of putting different type of color materials outside under the sun for about an hour compared to the same color and same material under the fluorescent lights b. the materials you would need- I would use a white piece of paper, I would also use different color clothing such as the red, yellows, blacks, and whites. I would also use a camera to see if there would be anything I wouldn’t be able to see with the naked eye. c. the data you would collect- the data I would collect would be how the materials and piece of papers would look after the time frame of being under the lights. I would observe which one remains the same or which has dimmed within color. Would also see if the colors changed at all or if anything was absorbed by the materials to change their color. Such as ultraviolet rays or the sun beams. d. the results you would expect to obtain to support your hypothesis- I would expect the materials from being under the sunlight outside to be changed or dimmed within color due to the temperature of the sunlight compared to the fluorescent lights where the temperature is significantly less in temperature and less absorbing.
