...Eminem the Role Model April Allen Bernard Bongang Eng 215 October 24, 2012 Eminem and His Importance A person’s past does not necessarily depict his or her future. Eminem is a perfect example of a how a person reacts to his or her past can create or destroy his or her future. Eminem grew up on the streets. He lived the hood life; scraping for pennies and scraps. He constantly argued with his drunken mother. He played the roles of father, mother, and brother to his younger sister. Eminem worked at jobs for little to nothing to help provide. As his life matured he battled with his daughter’s mother. This could have broken him down; for many it would have. Instead of lying around and creating self-pity for himself he went and made something of his self. The Music Eminem’s music is pure success. His success took hard work and effort, but with his dedication it took flight. He battled other individuals who were in the rap game, and Eminem’s quick emotional lyrics dropped them where they stood. Even the most street thug rappers could not compare to what Eminem brought to the stage. He poured his personal emotions and experiences into his music. People can relate to reality. Eminem’s music was a cold, harsh reality. His music expressed his struggles from day to day, not what he saw transpire in the streets amongst other individuals. His music, his lyrics, his reality was the reality for his listeners. Even the listeners who were not experiencing hardships of Eminem’s...

...Rap lyrics and its influence Many rap lyrics glorify violence and guns. Every lyric can affect us in its own way, either it is positive or negative. Many US citizens think rap lyrics should be forbidden, because the lyrics are about topics that can affect us to take catastrophically choices. There are hundred points of views around this, but is it right to deny people to listen to what they want? The latest years there have been several shooting situations in American schools where teenagers have shot teachers and fellow students. This can have a connection with the lyrics in raps. Tupac, Dr. Dre and Eminem are some rappers who are writing about violence. Some of their lyrics are called “Hit Em Up”, “Ni**a witta gun” and “One Shot 2 Shot”. These rappers are very popular among teenagers. Rappers often have opinions about violence and guns that invite people to use guns as self-defence. This is one reason rap lyrics glorifying violence should be forbidden. Five percent of the teenage population in the US bring weapons to school. Rappers encourage wearing weapons because you never know what is going to happen and who you are meeting around the corner. Even though this is true, I think it is paranoid thinking that it always is a chance to be killed or beaten up. I think everybody needs to see more from different perspectives. US citizens who think rap lyrics that glorify violence should be forbidden need to see what rap listeners are missing when they are not listening...

..."Lose Yourself" by Eminem, the main message of the song is to have one shot and take it and not letting someone stop you from what you dream of doing. This song was also the theme for his film 8 mile. In his earlier life, his lyrics talk about the struggles he has been through. Before Eminem became a rapper, he was unsuccessful in fulfilling his dream. His first chance at becoming a rapper failed when he lost the MC battle. As he struggled to work hard, he had the commitment in taking another chance in achieving his dream which was becoming a rapper when he won his next battle. While reading over the lyrics, these verses really stuck out to me . "Too much for me to wanna stay in one spot, another day monotony Has gotten me to the point, I'm like a snail I've got to formulate a plot before I end up in jail or shot" The meaning of these verses is saying that he is trapped in a situation where he is confused on what step to take on further in life. He goes through many obstacles throughout his journey in effort to break out of his problems. He had to be very cautious in any strategies he planned to make because he didn't want to end up being killed or put into jail, so he had to think of other alternatives to keeping him getting in trouble with the law. He calls himself a snail because he doesn't like what he's d oing in life. Everything seemed to be slow to his taste. Working at a factory is not what he dreamed of becoming. His dream was to be a rapper. Eminem had dreams he wanted...

...Eminem and Women MUSI 1002 – FINAL PAPER, FALL 2014 December 2, 2014 In this day and age, the molding of children is one of if not the most important task of what a parent may have to face. Many parents have to experience the unpleasant task of having to filter between what to allow or not allow their innocent children to be exposed to. This is due to the fact that the media now plays a huge role on how a child will grow up and what a child will think is right and wrong. Factors such a famous celebrities and music play some of the most influential roles. This becomes a problem when music, such as Rap and Hip-Hop, portray certain issues and ideas in a very negative way (Watkins, 85); a way in which a child may completely misunderstand and therefore take away a very unhealthy idea of it. Not only can a genre be at fault in an instance like this, but also an artist who actually allows to put out such messages and ideas into the world. One of the most controversial topics in the Rap industry is the topic about women and how they should be portrayed. Eminem, an artist who is heavily criticized about his degrading and demoralizing of women in his lyrics and music videos, is an example of such artist (Hess, 490). He is very well known and also loved for his lyrics and music videos that represent women as sexual objects encourage domestic violence against women, and attack women of prestige and power within the social elite world. Eminem’s style of music consists of Rap. The...

...After reading Joan Morgan’s article “From Fly-Girls to Bitches and Hos” we can evidently say what she was trying to tell us. She certifies that women are not respected in rap music. Joan makes a valid point saying “It’s extremely telling that men who can only see us as ‘bitches’ and ‘hos’ refer to themselves as ‘niggas’” referring to the simple truth that one can not love or respect another if they do not first love and respect themselves. This is not an excuse for rappers to degrade women. It is Morgan’s way of trying to understand where the black rapper is coming from and the reasoning behind the misogyny. She points out that by demeaning black people in rap songs, the vocalists encourage racism and stereotypes. She also claims that if women want to be respected they have to start giving men opportunities to do so. For example, half-naked girls in music videos are not doing a good job in stopping men from calling them b-words. Furthermore, Joan mentions the bad state in which rap music is. The lyrics are focused on self-destructive behavior. As she says, rappers show their inner anger, personal problems and even depression through these shocking lyrics. It is their way of presenting themselves. Morgan introduced these propositions by relying on hip-hop music. She gave a couple examples from songs, their structure and main aspects of lyrics. The article also contains declamations of people not related with rap music which gave the whole work truthfulness. She also point out...

...Music is a soulful way to gain insight on personal relationships, emotions, fashion and even new slang that is being used in today’s society. Music is also one main form of entertainment that is used daily. Some use music as a gateway to mentally leave the harsh realities that life can sometimes bring to us, while others use music as a form of communication. Music has a philosophical effect on one’s emotions allowing happiness or sadness to rise. Throughout time, music has the characteristic of fluidity, shaping to society as new facets of life emerge. All-in-all, music has the capability to incite emotions of sadness, grief, joy, and even ecstasy. Since music can invoke these emotions, is it possible for music, more specifically rap or “gangsta rap” to incite violence? Gangsta rap evolved from what was called “hardcore hip hop” in the mid-1980s and pioneered by many rappers, one being Ice-T. During the late 1980s and early 1990s this type of rap music became more popular and was common amongst several groups such as N.W.A. During this time, these lucrative lyrics became more popular among rap enthusiasts and became a subgenre of hip hop (Wikipedia, 2016). Some say that the lyrics that are used in these songs are very provocative and could possibly insight violence or just make people more violent in general. Yes, this subgenre of hip hop does have lucrative lyrics and talk about violence, but I don’t think that the music itself makes people violent. However, like I stated in...

...beat during a workout. That one song that helps make everything better. That one song that makes me lose my sense of reality, picks me up when I’m down, is “Stan” by Marshall Mathers (Eminem). “Stan” is by far one of Eminem’s greatest songs ever made, it’s one of the songs that made him so popular. I don’t listen to rap but I love listening to “Stan.” It’s one of the deepest songs written and produced by Eminem. This song goes really in-depth about love, suicide, depression, obsession, and murder. I am choosing to interpret this song so you can see it from my point of view. Stan, is the main character from the song he’s a crazy obsessed fan of Eminem. At one point in the song it shows Stan writing a letter to Eminem, he has pictures of Eminem plastered all over his wall. A second part that makes Stan so obsessed is he dyed his hair blond like Eminem’s in the song too. In the first few verses of the song this person “Stan” is a big fan of Eminem and pours his heart out into these letters he writes him. In the letters, he talks about how messed up his life was and still is and how they’re childhoods were so much alike. Including how they should become best friends and they were born from the ghetto, had abusive dads neglected as children’s, and so on. Stan basically explains why he loves Eminem so much, and why they should be together (as...
