...my life, but one in particular comes to mind: writing essays. For some people, writing is a chance to let their ideas and opinions flow on a piece of paper. Yet to others, like me, writing is difficult and I find it hard to let go and obtain a rhythm of words. As I write essays, I constantly stop to think of the best way to express my thoughts and use the right words to explain them; it doesn’t just come to me. That’s why when my English teacher, Ms. Poth, told us we’d be writing an in-class essay, I freaked. I immediately started to doubt myself and became frustrated because I told myself I wasn’t going to be able to do this. I kept thinking these thoughts until a few minutes later when I recognized how negative I was being. At that point, I decided to turn my attitude around and not give up that easily. I realized that with a positive mental attitude and some preparation for the task ahead of me, I could actually get through this essay with at least a B. After Ms. Poth had told us about our in-class essay, she explained to the class that she wouldn’t let us know the question on which we were to write about. However, she did give us some hints to what the topic would be about. She emphasized that we should review the stories of the Angle-Saxon Period and the Medieval Period. That was when the light bulb turned on in my head; I was going to review the literature of those time periods to better prepare myself for this essay. By doing this, I will know what I’m talking about and...

...This essay was the one I dreaded writing the most. I read the question over and over and just kept thinking “I’m neither unique nor colorful” and closing the tab. Eventually, I resorted to asking my mom, which in retrospect was a bad idea because she said that I'm unique because I’m amazing and kind. Thanks mom, that’s super helpful. I then turned to my best friend, who arguably knows me the most. She began by listing all of my extracurricular activities, but I reminded her that the point of this essay is something outside of extracurriculars. That's when she revealed that those are what make me unique. In her words, “You're just a good person. You do way more than you need to and you don't get anything out of it,” and that's when I realized that what makes me unique is my heart....

...Esther C. Moore Admissions Essay April 15, 2013. Why I Want to Attend LSN My philosophy of nursing comes directly from my desire to help people. I want to be a nurse because I enjoy being around people in their times of need and I get internal satisfaction by serving those that need help. I remember when I did some volunteer work for a nursing home and that was when I realized my passion for nursing. I believe that the cure for many of the people's ailments is not just in medicine, it is in the care that they receive as patients in hospitals and homes. This is where I believe that I can make a great difference in people's lives by helping them recover from their ailments. One of the philosophies that are very close to my heart is that I believe that the health of a person is all in the mind. A person is only sick if he/she thinks they are sick. This is kind of a caring theory that I believe in, which is that there would be no patients if everyone around them would just understand what they are going through and what is needed to help them. I believe in caring for the patients in a way so as to bring about a transpersonal caring relationship between the patient and the nurse/caretaker and the caring occasion/caring moment. I believe in this philosophy since it describes the various health and caring related issues and problems in a very different light. I believe that it is important to provide a patient with the right kind of atmosphere and environment that...

...Admissions Essay Booker T. Washington said “Nothing ever comes to one that is worth having except as a result of hard work.” I have found this to be true in most aspects of my life, for all of my growth and success has come as a result of determination and perseverance. While I have experienced failures and hardships, these experiences taught me the most valuable lessons, making me a stronger person and building the character which drives the individual I am today. I was raised in a small country town and participated in rodeo and many different sports growing up. My parents taught me that it takes hard work and dedication to be successful. They pushed me to follow my dreams from a young age which has carried over into my adulthood. Their guidance and belief in me gave me the strength to believe in myself, which I consider to be the main reason I have experienced so much success in my life thus far. I loved playing all sports, but developed a passion for softball during my high school career. I put in many hours practicing and playing every week to become the best teammate, pitcher, and leader I could be. I accepted an academic and softball scholarship to CBU upon graduating and received the honors of All-Conference and All-Academic team during my freshman year. Although I received many accolades during my sports career, it was the teamwork skills and leadership abilities I developed that have had the largest benefit in my life and have definitely carried over into my...

...Our experiences play an important role in shaping our opinions, hopes and dreams. As we live, people around us including family, friends, colleagues and teachers; play an important role in shaping and sharing our experiences. Looking back at my journey through life, I am amazed at how much influence those around me, and the experiences we shared together, have played a role in shaping who I am today. My eldest brother had several handicaps. He was born deaf and with poor eye sight which in turn affected his speech and development. Throughout my eldest brother’s life, our mother was his caretaker, his support and the only one who fought so hard for his well being and happiness. She had managed in the late seventies to enrol him in a special school in Lebanon where he started to develop and learn sign language through which we all communicate with him now. I was too young at the time, but my older siblings told me of the stories when during the civil war in Lebanon, my mother would risk it all to go see him and bring him home for Christmas as his school was on the other side of the line separating Beirut into two warring camps at the time. Around the mid-eighties, the war had become much worse, and Palestinians were being targeted in Lebanon, at which point my parents decided to bring my eldest brother back to Saudi Arabia. By the time the war had ended in Lebanon, it was too late for my brother to go back to school, as he was too old. In Saudi Arabia, my parents tried...

...fine arts program at........ College. Always enjoying the arts, I excelled and thrived for a few months before my personal life took over and I decided I didn't have the concentration for school at that time. Throughout that time I dappled in many creative endeavors including photography, writing for children classes and many crafts like knitting and mosaics. Being an avid reader I digested book after book, fiction and non-fiction alike. I have always possessed a fire to learn and create. ...This past summer, I was fortunate to be selected to an elite team of baseball players from Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Idaho to compete in the Baseball Northwest Championship Tournament in Oregon. This would prove to be one of the most significant experiences of my life and would have a profound impact on me and for my future. My entire life has been devoted to excelling in the classroom and in athletics. My family has always been involved in sports. My father and grandfather have played, taught and coached at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. My grandpa played professionally for the Chicago White Sox Organization, then coached basketball and baseball at the collegiate level for over fifty years. In 1984, my father was drafted professionally and played five years for the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres Organizations. After completing his professional baseball career in America, he played for the Neptunis Yankees Major League team in Holland. Education has also been a priority for my family, as my grandfather has a Doctor’s Degree, and my father has a Master’s Degree plus 90 hours of additional graduate work. I hope to be able to follow in their footsteps and attain the same level of athletic and academic achievement. The opportunity to participate in the Baseball Northwest Tournament was a special honor, although one that I was very anxious about. Upon arriving with my family at the tournament site, I was excited and awed...

...The expression “Give her an inch, and she will take a mile, ” does not even begin to describe me. I am more like “ Give me an inch, and I will take a whole country and conquer it.” I have overcome so many hardships in my life. I started off with a Christian faith based girl. Who loved everyone, and did not care what people thought. A girl whose family meant more to her than water. A girl that didn’t know the evils of the world until she was sent out into the crossfire to experience it first-hand. A girl who would have never thought in her desolate dreams that she would soon turn her back on everything she ever believed in. In my previous years, this war was just a game to me. It tested me, tempted me, teased me, and even at times ripped me apart. I never once realized how much destruction it could cause not only in the lives of my family, but as well as my own. During my freshman year, I felt like a new recruit. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had no inkling about the people I would meet, or the enemies I would make. No indication that success meant having to study every night. No clue that my faith would be tested in every way possible. Not even the slightest notion that the people I love most would be the people I would soon be pushing away. I didn’t expect to be so tired and worn out. Waking up at ridiculous hours of the morning; the foolish acts the school cast upon us, like weekly and sometimes daily metal detector checks. Honestly, I did not know what to...

...Your school is considering requiring all students to wear uniforms during school. Do you feel it is a good idea or a bad idea to require students to wear uniforms? Why? | | When it comes to my school requiring the students to wear a uniform, I personally feel that it is a good idea. Uniforms displays a great form of structure and unity within our school. It will allow us to be more focused on our schoolwork and not on competing with our peers to keep up with the latest fashions. The practice of students wearing a simple dress code is preparing us to transition into the corporate job market. The business world expects us to wear a professional attire in order to be taken serious among our colleagues and clients. This change will also allow us students to express our individual self-expression in other ways beside through our clothing. I know some of the other students will feel that wearing a uniform will stifle their creativity because they will be dressed just like everyone else in school. But unless they are wearing a unique one of a kind outfit, we are just following a trend that millions of other people are following as well. In all honesty, the schools these days are over ran with students wearing jackets/hoodies that are covering most of the clothes that they have on. So I don’t think that requiring us to dress in a uniform will actually stifle our creativity through clothing but will reserve that type of attire for a more appropriate time. Our creativity and individuality...

...Knowing the end goal of a mission is the most important part in planning. Without knowing the destination, it is impossible to plan the journey. This not only applies to military and business objectives but also to personal ones. Goals are important markers down the path of personal success. I am leaving the military in the near future and have already begun to establish benchmarks to ensure I am successful. One of my short term goals is to begin an MBA program that will hone my business skills to bring them to the level of my peers who have been in the civilian sector over the past seven years. Long term, I hope to use my military background, combined with a MBA to join a company in a leadership development role. The Northeastern University MBA program will provide me with extensive exposure to the different areas of business. In particular, this program will allow me to bridge the gaps I currently have in accounting, financial management, and supply chain optimization. Closing these gaps will put me in line with my civilian peers. The ability to collaborate with classmates in my cohort will provide me with valuable real world examples of successes and failures in the business world and give me a better sense of what to expect as I transition. My military career has had many successes that will help me integrate well into this program. The accomplishment that has given me the most pride is when I planned and executed the largest combined Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF)...

...I first discovered my passion for science during my secondary education. It was during science classes and practical lessons that I derive great enjoyment in understanding the inner workings of phenomena that exist in our observable world. I was exceptionally intrigued with hands-on experiments that could be performed to bring textbook contents to real-life experiences and observations. My interest in science subsequently led me to be part of the physics Talent Development Programme during my high school. Being in the programme brought me opportunities to represent my school in various scientific competitions. One of the most memorable competitions was the annual design competition organised as part of the Young Defence Scientist Programme, which called for participants to design and build a “next generation flyer”. The competition not only involved the understanding of scientific theories, but it also requires the application of those theories to a design project. Tweaking design parameters, building and rebuilding physical models, meeting numerous failures and seeing my design successfully taking off for the first time was part and parcel of what I truly enjoyed during my extracurricular time. The most heartfelt lesson that I have took away through this early learning opportunity was that in the journey of science and discovery, we almost always do not get the right solution the first time. What matters most is the tenacity towards achieving that desired outcome. My passion...
