How to Write a Successful Mba Admissions Essay

...MBA Admissions Essay Powerful Tips for Improving Your Odds of Gaining Admission to the MBA Program of Your Choice Admissions essays are easily the most challenging part of the MBA application process, and it’s no wonder. Most people don’t like to write, and even those of us who do enjoy writing can come up blank when called upon to write about ourselves, especially when so much is at stake. The fact remains: If you want to go to business school, you have to be able to generate one or two thousand carefully chosen words that sum up your background and experience, your career goals, your reasons for seeking the MBA, and why you’ve chosen the program to which you’re applying. Step one: Relax. Writing admissions essays is stressful—it’s supposed to be stressful— but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Everyone who has ever applied to business school has written admissions essays, and so can you. All you have to do is submit essays that are a little bit better than most of the others, and if you follow the advice we’ll cover in the following pages, it will be a lot less painful. How to Write a Successful Most MBA essays are mediocre The good news is that most MBA admissions essays are mediocre at best. If you can at least come up with a marginally compelling narrative, and if you can spell and punctuate everything correctly—or know someone who can—you’ll automatically have an advantage over much of the competition. This guide is designed to help you get started (the hardest...

...MBA Program at Strutledge? Strutledge University is struggling to remain competitive amongst other Universities with the raising costs of education and the decreasing enrolment numbers. In an effort to remain competitive and increase enrolment, I think it would be in the best interest of the University to add an additional program for students. With the addition of an MBA program, Strutledge University can expand its student base, build valuable connections to the local area businesses and last but not least, the University can remain competitive with other surrounding Universities. The University already offers numerous amounts of business classes to their students, so adding a MBA degree to the curriculum will not be very costly. Students are more interested in the MBA program due to its broad spectrum in covering business needs and they also understand the need for a degree to obtain future employment. Students with an advanced degree, like an MBA, are more likely to be considered a qualified candidate over someone with minimal work experience and a bachelor’s degree. According to the 2014 Survey Report released by the Graduate Management Admission Council, “Worldwide, a majority of full-time two-year MBA programs report rising volume in 2014” meaning, more students are enrolling in MBA programs. The MBA program has shown constant growth over the past 30 years which is supported by the Department of Education.” The Department of Education numbers support his...

Degree or Not

...Writing an Argument Latasha Randle MGT/521 February 6, 2012 Dr. Marie J. Abram Writing an Argument A Masters of Business Administration (MBA) is a post graduate degree which focuses on Business Communication. The program focuses on providing its attendees with business knowledge, leadership abilities, networking opportunities, and career advancement. Although the intent of the program is understood, one must weigh the advantages and disadvantages when determining if pursuing an MBA is the right choice. Oftentimes, obtaining a degree is only seen in a positive light. However, there can be some hidden negative impacts to seeking a MBA. There are several factors I personally had to consider when deciding to enroll in an MBA program. The MBA program is recognized as the most sought-after postgraduate degree program (VanderMey, 2011). According to the Graduate Management Admission Council, the average starting salary ranges from $61,000 to $78,000 annually for recent MBA graduates (VanderMey, 2011). The thought of obtaining a highly sought-after degree and the earning potential were my first true reasons for desiring to be in the MBA program. On the contrary, the job market is currently in a downward spiral. This means that with an MBA degree, there is a likelihood of remaining underemployed or unemployed. According to recent statistics, college graduates are facing the highest unemployment rates in more than two decades (VanderMey, 2011). Another objection to earning...

Pursue an Mba

...Why I Decided to Pursue an MBA to Further My Career MGT521 April 5, 2006 Why I Decided to Pursue an MBA to Further My Career A worker with a master’s degree on average will earn roughly 25% more than a worker who has only a bachelor’s degree according the Graduate Admissions Council (GMAC) survey published by Business Schools Directory. Additionally, individuals with an MBA who decide to work in the IT sector, like me, or in such sectors such as investment banking or consulting firms can expect to earn higher base salaries than MBA holders working in other industries. “In 2007-2008, At the master’s degree level, the greatest number of degrees were conferred in the fields of education (176,000) and business (156,000) (U.S. Department of Education, 2007-2008). There are many different career paths where an MBA will get you further and open more doors than a candidate job seeker without. I became interested in moving into a management role after working for several years in technical roles in the administrative field. After deciding further education was necessary I invested 3 years of my time in obtaining a Bachelors degree in Management. After completing this program it was time to look at where I wanted to go. In preparation for considering the options available to me, earning an MBA degree just seemed to make sense. I had previously set a personal goal to switch career paths and work as a manager for a high tech company. I believe a MBA is the key to putting me on...

Reason and Objections to Obtain an Mba

...Reasons and Objections to Obtain an MBA Van Emery MGT 521 May 09, 2011 Walter Goodwyn Abstract In this paper the subject to address are the objections to obtain an MBA and argue the points with reason to obtain an MBA. The three main objections to entering an MBA program are: 1) Cost, 2) Time and effort required, and 3) Job availability in the current economic slowdown. Each argument against obtaining an MBA is countered with evidence that supports reasoning to obtain an MBA at almost any time, personal situation or career position. Reasons and Objections to Obtain an MBA Masters of Business Administration An MBA or a Master of Business Administration is a degree that provides training in the theories and practices of business management. An MBA degree certifies that the recipient has detailed knowledge of functional management roles found in most organizations. The MBA is recognized worldwide as a valuable asset for business and administrative careers. Earning Mba in Myanmar

...signing up to a raft of new private courses offering an MBA, or Master of Business Administration, according to educators and students. In the West, the MBA and similar post-graduate programs have long been the go-to qualifications for would-be high fliers. But as Burma’s government undertakes economic and political reforms to open the country up to foreign investment, managers still lack formal qualification. “In Burma, people mostly work using experience, but they lack the theory,” said Aye Aye Mar, principal of the Business Institute Yangon. “When the country opens up, we can’t work as we used to before, we have to follow the global trend.” The Business Institute Yangon is one of a handful of private institutions that have begun offering MBA courses in Burma in recent years, as people increasingly stay in country to get the qualification rather than study abroad. “Both theory and experience is required in the workplace,” added Aye Aye Mar. “People need to read and study sample [business] cases. [Managers] can make better decision where they have completed master’s-level business studies.” These private institutions in Burma have tied up with universities in Thailand, France, UK and the United States, who provide valuable accreditation to the degrees. Many study for their MBAs while working a job, so courses are structured so that teaching is at weekends and in the evenings. ...www.platinumgmat.com | Free GMAT Prep GMAT Practice Questions | GMAT Study Guide | MBA Admissions GMAT AWA Sample Essay Analysis of An Argument "The recent surge in violence in the southern part of the city is a result of a shortage of police officers and an absence of leadership on the part of the city council. In order to rectify the burgeoning growth of crime that threatens the community, the city council must address this issue seriously. Instead of spending time on peripheral issues such as education quality, community vitality, and job opportunity, the city council must realize that the crime issue is serious and double the police force, even if this action requires budget cuts from other city programs." In the argument above, the author concludes that the city council is not doing its job well and needs to focus on expanding significantly the police force in order to combat recent growth in the level of crime. The premise of the argument is that crime is expanding while the city council focuses on ostensibly unrelated matters such as education reform. However, the argument is flawed because it falsely assumes that the city council’s efforts to improve quality of life are entirely unrelated to levels of violence and it assumes that the crime problem can be solved by merely increasing the police force. First, the argument wrongly assumes that issues of educational opportunity, community vitality, and job availability have no bearing on crime. However, the author fails...

Argument Paper

...regarding the decision to obtain a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). The impact of education on earning potential, job security, and becoming an entrepreneur will be examined. This paper will also discuss how raising and countering objections has been an aid in my own decision to get an MBA and how I embraced my decision to go back to school. Objections will be raised for reasons not to pursue a graduate degree and referenced information will be sited to support the raising and countering of the content. Why an MBA Raising Objections Business schools have long sold the promise that, like an F1 driver zipping into the pits for fresh tires, it just takes a short hiatus on an MBA program and you will come roaring back into the career race primed to win. After all, it signals to companies that you were good enough to be accepted by a decent business school (so must be good enough for them); it plugs you into a network of fellow MBAs; and, to a much lesser extent, there's the actual classroom education. Why not just pay the bill, sign here and reap the rewards? The problem is that these days it doesn't work like that. Rather, more and more students are finding the promise of business schools to be hollow. The return on investment on an MBA has gone the way of Greek public debt. If you have a decent job in your mid- to late- 20s, unless you have the backing of a corporate sponsor, leaving it to get an MBA is a higher risk than ever. If you are getting good business experience...
