While there are not any historical factors that influenced Dudley to establish the Silver Shirts, Adolf Hitler played a large role in the organization’s establishment. William Dudley Pelley is known as a paramilitary leader, who was greatly influenced by Adolf Hitler’s rise in power as the chancellor of Germany. He was openly supportive of Hitler’s anti-semitic view, and actually looked at Hitler as a role model figure for starting off as a house painter and then working to become the head of German. Like Hitler’s Brownshirts, the Silver Legion emulated them by wearing blue corduroy pants, leggings, a tie with an individual’s membership number on it, and a silver shirt with a scarlet “L” stitched onto the breast.
