Your Options For Discreet Adult Braces

Getting braces as an adult is a big decision. You have to commit to several months or even a few years of treatment to see results. However, if you want a pretty smile, and if you're concerned about your oral health, then braces could be the answer. Crooked teeth are more difficult to brush and floss properly, so straightening them with braces may help you keep your teeth healthy longer. If you're avoiding braces because you don't want a mouth full of ugly metal for many months, you'll be happy to know there may be alternatives. Here are two types of braces that are nearly invisible.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are cemented to the back of your teeth rather than the front like traditional metal braces …show more content…
The brackets and wires are on the back of your teeth where you normally place your tongue when you speak. This could make your tongue sore, and it may cause you to lisp. You'll need to go through an adjustment period before the braces feel comfortable in your mouth, and you can eat and drink normally again.

Clear Aligners

Another option for invisible braces are clear aligner trays. However, they aren't completely invisible. They are transparent, so from a distance, they aren't noticeable. The can be spotted up close, but since they are clear, like a clear mouth guard, they don't detract from your appearance. The biggest advantage to clear aligner trays is that they are removable. They are not cemented to your teeth so you can take the trays out when you eat and when you brush your teeth. This makes oral hygiene much easier.

You need to wear the trays at night while you sleep and all day except when you eat. However, it's possible to remove them for special occasions too, as long as you don't do it too often. If you don't wear the trays most of the day, your teeth won't shift as quickly as they should, and you'll prolong the length of time you need to wear the trays. Still, it's a nice option to be able to remove the trays when you want to take a photo or attend an important business

History of Human Services

...provide vital human needs, in an environment that is accountable, and relies upon checks and balances (or introduces same) while seeking to stem new or growing problems, while staying steadfast and focused in order to deliver a better life to people in need. In undertaking the task of this paper I was excited when I found a reference to King Athelstan. He established what is the first recorded almshouse – in York in the 10th Century. I also found that the oldest established charity still in existence is thought to be the Hospital of St. Oswald in Worcester, founded around 990. What I found disturbing is that even though the almshouses in Great Britain survive and thrive – after many adaptations to this day – the almshouses established in the United States evolved to become very bad places. (Almshouses.org website) In our text, we read that in the United States, human services were established and modeled according to the Elizabethan Poor Law of 1601, and that the first principle laid down in the colonies defined poor relief as a public responsibility. Another principle stipulated that people would be denied support if they had family members who were not poor, i.e., parents, grandparents, adult children, or grandchildren. (Woodside, p. 33) This entire subject area is fascinating. Early Peoples Recorded In History In researching “human services from the early peoples recorded in history” we can go back pretty far. Human services,...

Purpose of Pain

...name, and his health. But, he stays faithful and obedient to God. We endure trials every day, the loss of a loved one, physical pain, and the pressures of the world. We are not exempt from these things because we are believers. As a matter of fact, we are more inclined to go through bad and rough times because we are believers. God did not only promise to help us in our trials, he also promises us trials. God did not send His son so we would live a strife-free life. He warned us that we would have suffering and strife within our families, that we would have trails, and that we would be persecuted. We enter the Kingdom through many trails, and every Christian will suffer persecution. Using the works of C.S. Lewis and other sources, this paper will attempt to explain and clarify why one must witness and endure trials, tribulations, pain, and suffering when living for Christ and Christ-like. Lewis' influential experiences Familial losses and effect of war There were several important events on Lewis’ life that led to him leaving religion altogether and eventually returning to...

...surgery or marrying outside their generation hoping to stay young. However, these attempts are futile and Americans cannot hold back the clock or trick death. The clock is ticking and when it stops I will die and so will you no one knows when. Although there is a great deal of research on aging and death, no one has discovered how to halt the inevitable. It is a scientific and biblical fact that human beings will age and die. All life ends in death. This paper will cover some of the issues regarding, fear of death, and fear of aging. It will also explore if Americans fear death and aging because we have no control over it or we don’t understand it. Fear of aging can be attributed the fear of our health failing; losing our memory, independence and the energy for living our lives to the fullest (Berger, 2001). Fear of death can be attributed to not being able to speak to someone who is still experiencing it. Many fear growing older because of the onslaught of mental deterioration such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease; which are attributed to old age. (Philipchalk, 1994). Fear of aging and death is caused by America’s negative concept; it is the natural progression of life. In Strongman’s research he found that a dominant aspect of aging is death (Strongman, 2006). Peoples thought inevitably turn to their own ending more than they did when they were younger. A suicide story was published in The Mirror. It talked about a couple carried out suicide pact because they could...

Osgood-Schlatter

...Osgood-Schlatter Disease: A General Overview Abstract     In sports and athletic lifestyles, there is an increased risk for injury as well as specific injuries that correlate with a respective sport. There is a particular disease that can occur in a number of sports activities called Osgood-Schlatter disease (OSD). It is named after two surgeons who originally founded the diagnosis in 1903. The biggest aspect of Osgood-Schlatter (OS), is that its target population are adolescents during periods of growth. The condition is not a disease that causes permanent or long-term disabilities. This paper will further discuss the different aspects of OS such as the main cause, common reported symptoms, varying forms of treatment, prevention methods and different physical therapy implications. Cause and Etiology The exact etiology of OS is idiopathic, making it unknown and debated over the years. The common theory is OS is an injury due to overuse. (Whitmore, 2013). It is believed that OS is caused by repetitive, forceful contractions of the quadriceps muscle tendon pulling on the “immature tibial tuberosity” (Tuong, White, 2011). This repeated traction force can be strong enough to pull bone fragments off the tuberosity or in worse cases, pull the proximal portion of the tendon off the tibia causing the tuberosity to become elevated resulting in pain and inflammation (Sullivan, 2014). The reason the condition is viewed at such a high level of importance is because the tuberosity is...

Theories of Intelligence

...Running head: THEORIES OF INTELLIGENCE Theories of Intelligence Anthony Dillon The University of Southern Queensland Abstract The concept of intelligence is regarded by psychologists as one of the more important individual difference measures that support predictions regarding a person’s potential for academic and other achievements in life. But what exactly is intelligence? Despite its importance, it is an entity that is not easily defined. To help define intelligence, researchers have developed theories that attempt to more fully explain its dynamic nature. This essay critically evaluates some of the well-known theories of intelligence: Spearman’s two-factor theory, Thurstone’s theory of primary mental abilities, Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, and Sternberg’s triarchic theory. The theories are discussed in terms of their relevance to the study of intelligence as well as their strengths and weaknesses. While none of the theories presented can specifically pinpoint what intelligence is, each theory is useful in revealing a different face of this important but elusive human characteristic. Theories of Intelligence Although intelligence is a long-standing topic in psychology (Laboratory of Comparative Human Cognition, 1982), a satisfactory definition of intelligence remains elusive (Carroll, 1993; Fogarty, 1999). However, several descriptions have been offered that allow a brief insight into what intelligence may be related to. For example, Eysenck...

The Importance of Studying Accounting Theory

...Conceptual Framework Most research reports cast the problem statement within the context of a conceptual or theoretical framework.4 A description of this framework contributes to a research report in at least two ways because it (1) identifies research variables, and (2) clarifies relationships among the variables. Linked to the problem statement, the conceptual framework “sets the stage” for presentation of the specific research question that drives the investigation being reported. For example, the conceptual framework and research question would be different for a formative evaluation study than for a summative study, even though their variables might be similar. Scholars argue that a conceptual or theoretical framework always underlies a research study, even if the framework is not articulated.5 This may seem incongruous, because many research problems originate from practical educational or clinical activities. Questions often arise such as “I wonder why such an event did not [or did] happen?” For example, why didn't the residents' test-interpretation skills improve after they were given feedback? There are also occasions when a study is undertaken simply to report or describe an event, e.g., pass rates for women versus men on high-stakes examinations such as the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1. Nevertheless, it is usually possible to construct at least a brief theoretical rationale for the study. The rationale in the USMLE example may be, for...
