...Writing an Argument Decision to Pursue an MBA Damita Jackson-Owens MGT 521 September 7th, 2011 Glenn Perry Writing an Argument Deciding to pursue a master’s degree in Business Administration is a decision worth sincerely contemplating. Not only may it boost in your self-esteem but you will obtain satisfaction for your ability to get recognized professionally. It can be an effective tool to enhance or advance one's career if carefully researched career goals are considered. It is an enormous commitment of time, personal sacrifice and financial investment and those who consider pursing it need to consider its value prior to pursing it. This brings me to discuss why I want to pursue my MBA degree. As the old saying goes, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste” and someone has at least heard this phrase told to them, “Knowledge is power” so therefore education is a lifelong process and you could never have too much knowledge. ...Online MBA program Marketing Plan Online education has been the fastest growing segment of higher education. Because it is so unlike traditional classroom-based instructions, many questions have been raised as to the quality of the education offered in the online modality (Carrol & Burke, 2010). After an extensive survey of the literature, the U.S Department of Education issued a report concluding that the online or hybrid modalities are more effective then face-to-face instructions (Carrol & Burke, 2010). According to BusinessWeek, online MBA programs have surged in popularity over the past decade (Anonymous, 2010). With the increasing demands of the workplace, tighter schedules and the need for advanced degrees, many students are now relying on online programs to complete their MBAs. These programs are fueled by the increased capabilities of technology that allow students to successfully learn and complete their degrees outside of the traditional classroom environment (Anonymous, 2010). Understanding how online degree programs work, finding the right program, and recognizing the advantages and disadvantages of pursing a degree online are important tasks for every student to complete before enrolling in the program. This marketing plan overlooks these advantages and disadvantages of the online program over the on site MBA programs. ...Decision to Pursue MBA Degree Dorothy Hall MGT/521-Management August 5, 2010 Professor John Quesnel Decision to Pursue MBA Degree Deciding to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) degree is an important decision that should not be taken lightly. The master’s program is challenging and will take time from an individual’s personal life. An MBA can further a career, begin a new career, or fulfill a personal goal. In contemplating whether to obtain an MBA degree, I had to decide what value this degree would afford me. In obtaining this degree, it would further my education and could definitely be an asset to any future career choice that I may undertake when I retire from State Farm Insurance in a couple of years. In constructing and supporting this argument on whether to pursue an MBA, as a choice, I used the Jungian Personality Self-Assessment to foster insight into possible career paths and how other individuals perceive me. The self-assessment of the Jungian personality gives an individual through 16 personality types a better understanding of him or herself. The assessment measures thinking styles of individuals, modes of dealing with information and interactions for potential managers in group settings. My personality type was the INFP result that describes individuals reserved, creative, and highly idealistic with a possible career as an architect, journalist, educational consultant, missionary, actor, artist, and poet. I agreed with some...

...Online Takes the Cake Abstract Pursuing an online MBA program over an on site-program has numerous advantages. Adult learners can fit advanced education into their already hectic schedules, degrees can be obtained in half the time and class schedules are flexible. For these reasons, online education has been the fastest growing segment of higher education. But because it is so unlike traditional classroom-based instruction, many questions have been raised about the quality of the education offered in the online modality (Carrol & Burke, 2010, p. 65). After an extensive survey of the literature, the U.S Department of Education issued a report concluding that the online or hybrid modalities are more effective then face-to-face instructions (Carrol & Burke, 2010, p. 66). Many students rely on online programs to complete an MBA because of the increasing demands from the workplace and busier schedules. Today’s competitive job market has also increased the need for advanced degrees. These programs are fueled by the increased capabilities of technology that allow students to successfully learn and complete their degrees outside of the traditional classroom environment (Anonymous, 2010). Recognizing the advantages and disadvantages of pursing an MBA degree online, understanding how online degree programs work and finding the right program for you as an individual are important steps that each student needs to evaluate and complete before choosing which program they are...

.... Organization Theory Challenges and Perspectives John McAuley, Joanne Duberley and Phil Johnson . This book is, to my knowledge, the most comprehensive and reliable guide to organisational theory currently available. What is needed is a text that will give a good idea of the breadth and complexity of this important subject, and this is precisely what McAuley, Duberley and Johnson have provided. They have done some sterling service in bringing together the very diverse strands of work that today qualify as constituting the subject of organisational theory. Whilst their writing is accessible and engaging, their approach is scholarly and serious. It is so easy for students (and indeed others who should know better) to trivialize this very problematic and challenging subject. This is not the case with the present book. This is a book that deserves to achieve a wide readership. Professor Stephen Ackroyd, Lancaster University, UK This new textbook usefully situates organization theory within the scholarly debates on modernism and postmodernism, and provides an advanced introduction to the heterogeneous study of organizations, including chapters on phenomenology, critical theory and psychoanalysis. Like all good textbooks, the book is accessible, well researched and readers are encouraged to view chapters as a starting point for getting to grips with the field of organization theory. Dr Martin Brigham, Lancaster University, UK McAuley et al. provide a highly readable account...
