...Research Proposal on Smoking Amongst Teenage Girls in Secondary School. In the following proposal, I intend to put forward a proposal to study the smoking habits of teenage girls in secondary school. It has come to my attention that this is a problem area that is on the rise. I wish to use government funding to conduct research into this issue. It is my belief that if I can find the root of the problem, and discover why many young girls are smoking, I will then be able to propose and launch initiatives to try and tackle the problem altogether. In this proposal I endeavour to put forward the importance of my research question; why are the teenage girls in attending secondary school in Ireland smoking. Weather its due to a lack of information, peer pressure or the pressures of school I intend to find out. I intend to use three different types of research methods to gain information on why these girls are smoking. The first method I will use is focus groups. I think these will be useful on gaining an insight into these girl’s lives and to build a relationship with them. I will be able to see different reactions and will hopefully receive a lot of feedback. I’m also aware that in a focus group some members may be too shy or intimidated to speak up, this has lead me to my second research method which will be in-depth one to one interviews with girls. With these interviews I hope to get to the real truth of why these girls are smoking and what it would take to make them...

...This case deals with the ethical dilemma that Tobacco manufactures face when selling tobacco products in third world countries. First, there is the ethical dilemma of business versus health. The opening and development of the tobacco business in Third World countries like China, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and Africa, is considered against the health consequences of tobacco use which according to an Oxford University epidemiologist, has estimated to cost 3 million lives annually rising to 10 million by 2050 without effective tobacco control program A second ethical dilemma is employment versus impoverishment, where the opportunities for work in the tobacco industry are considered against a background of malnutrition. This is a problem that is certainly worth consideration, but with those who have the power to change things reaping huge profits, I am not sure if anything will be done. 1. Use the model in Exhibit 1 as a guide and assess the ethical and social responsibility implications of the situation described Exhibit 1 is a decision tree. A model for incorporating ethical and social responsibility issues into multinational business decisions. The decisions are decided by the users’ responses to a number of relevant questions regarding the matter at hand. ...changing the state’s laws on smoking in public buildings. Identify the advantages, types of sources, etc., and provide answers for possible disadvantages. Argue for or against which source is better to prepare for a debate on changing a local ordinance that prohibits the distribution of paper ads and salespeople coming door to door for sales. Identify the advantages, types of sources, etc., and provide answers for possible disadvantages. Hard copy sources versus Web-based sources. I personally believe that Hard copy sources are more reliable than Web-based sources for the simple fact that hard copy source information is not easily tampered with. Not many people can just up and change information when ever they want to. With Web-based information you have to be more careful because everything you find on the Internet is not necessarily true or reliable information. I argue for Hard copy source only because the information is more authentic, but I would probably use Web-based information myself just because is way more convenient than hard copy information. I argue for Web-based sources for this topic because I feel that this debate in particular is about something that is solely opinionated. I think hard copy books and newspapers etc. are for debates that are about cold hard facts. The Internet is where you will find other opinions on the situation at hand and I believe that is something that will help you in you debate about this topic. The advantage of Web-based sources in this...

...Smoking is a bad and unhealthy habit in which a person “inhales and exhales the smoke of the tobacco or any substance in a cigarette or a pipe” (gran diccionario 843) People should not smoke because, obviously, it affects the smoker and also, it affects all the people that are around them. There are several reasons why people should stop the habit of smoking. To see why, we have to be conscious about the consequences of smoking. First of all, physically ,the smoker’s teeth became decolored and people get a horrible breath. They experience shortness of breath in ordinary activities, like walking or using leathers. It also causes tiredness when people realize any kind of exercise because it decreases cardiovascular endurance (Meeks 364). These are for many, not very serious effects, but with the pass of time people can get worst diseases. The risk of lung and heart diseases increases sharply. Smoking causes a high pulse. This means that your heart works harder and makes more effort when you smoke. Smoking is a danger to your health and people should concern more about it. Smokers are more open to get lung cancer and all smokers have the risk of getting cancer than a person that does not s Everyday 3,000 children start smoking, most them between the ages of 10 and 18. These kids account for 90 percent of all new smokers. In fact, 90 percent of all adult smokers said that they first started smoking as teenagers. These statistics clearly show that young people are the prime target...

...pop culture. Trends fell out of style just as quickly as they emerged. One fad, however, was commercially popularized as early as the Civil War, and it had no intentions of leaving. As the tobacco industry boomed, smoking made its way into the lives of millions of Americans, and so did its consequences. By the 1960s, when the first Surgeon General’s warning appeared on cigarette labels, the dangers of smoking were well-known, yet still ignored by many. It was no secret that smoking was the primary cause of lung cancer, bronchitis, and a myriad of other complications---that is why ever since, the Centers for Disease Control and American Cancer Society have worked to educate the public and put an end to the deceitful ploys of cigarette companies. In a print public service announcement, the American Cancer Society discourages the act of smoking by appealing to the logos and pathos of its...

...traditional classroom in order to advance your education? This was the main reason why people did not try to get a college degree, just a decade ago. Now days, there are two types of education, the traditional setting and the online setting. There are many different advantages and disadvantages to both online and traditional education. First, there is the issue of time constraints. Many people have very little free time to which they can devote to an education. One of the disadvantages of traditional education is the time that has to be set aside at a specific time. This makes it really hard if your spouse is at work and you do not have a babysitter. In this case, maybe pursuing an online degree is best for you. It will allow you to attend your classes when it is most convenient for you. Another aspect that people look at when deciding which type of education is the best option for them is location. With today’s gas prices, most people do not want to drive back and forth to school. Therefore, they choose online education. Some people would have to drive a long way to get to a college campus, because they do not live near one. This is when the benefits of online education, being able to be done at home, outweigh the advantages of a traditional education. The third thing I am going to talk about is personal learning style. There are some people out there that learn best with the face-to-face interaction with other students and teachers. This is when traditional education is the best...
