Managing a Multigenerational Workforce

Introduction
In today’s time, the workforce of any industry can be broadly classified into four different generations. Each category has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. Managing such a diverse workforce has become a challenge for every organization.

Workforce Categorization

1) Silent Generation
People in this category are more than 65 years old. According to the bureau of labour statistics their approximate percentage population in the industry is 3-3.5%, which is expected to reduce further by 2020.

People want equal and fair treatment in all aspects. Organizations should try to incorporate varied lifestyles of different workforce categories. If employees are given the flexibility to maintain a balance between their work and personal life, then it would lead to higher employee satisfaction across all the workforce categories. Equal opportunities for career advancement also go a long way in ensuring employee satisfaction.

• Organizations should try to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each workforce category, so that they are able to relate with them better
• The policies and regulations of an organization should be sensitive to all workforce categories, this would build a feeling of oneness and mutual trust within the organization.
• Flexibility in working hours would lead to increased employee satisfaction across all categories, as they would get to manage their other day-to-day activities in a more optimised
