...Introduction 3 “Make” or “Buy” Analysis 4 Conclusion 7 References 9 Assignment #1: Make or Buy Methods Introduction According to the PMBOK (2008, p. 321), “a make-or-buy” analysis is a general management technique used to determine whether particular work can best be accomplished by the project team or must be purchased from outside sources.” A number of factors could affect the make-or-buy decisions such as budget, scope, or time constraints; therefore, when making a decision project managers weigh the advantages and disadvantages of make versus buy options and their impacts on the project costs and project master plan date. This paper examines and assesses the “Make or Buy” methods by analyzing it because project managers rely on it when deciding as to whether to “buy or make”. The first section of the research paper will present a brief description of these methods, followed by an analysis, which will include the advantages and disadvantages of make versus buy by providing reasons and examples against each one of these 2 options. Finally, based on the analysis and the findings demonstrated and revealed in this paper, I will highlight in my conclusion key limitations and constraints of these methods, and will shed light on some of its adverse effects, including risk, cost, time and budgetary implications on the success and progress of the project, and ultimately the usefulness of these methods. Description According to Fleming (2003, p. 27), “the...

Muscle jobs are disappearing, finger and brain jobs are growing or, to put it more formally, labor-based industries have been displaced by skill-based industries and these in turn will have to be replaced by knowledge-based industries.” -Charles Handy (1984) Though Charles Handy tracked these radical changes long back in 1984, these touched India very recently. During the last few years, India has witnessed an...

...another and are impossible to separate or divide. Rape is defined as “sexual intercourse” without ones consent it is limited to understanding what an actual sex act is and how it is seen. Sexual assault is as much as a crime of violation against the body and causing physical, emotional and mental harm as it is about sex. Rape victims can be male, female or transgender it doesn’t discriminate. Most rape crimes are generally committed by someone the victim knows but unknown to the public. A large amount of women have no legal ground because they are assaulted by their husband. Many sex crimes are also committed because of one’s profession, for instance an adult entertainer, but does that make it right? Some are just sought out and taken advantage of because the perpetrator feels they can overpower their victim and take what they want. Another type of rape is Date Rape this is when a person is on a date or have been dating someone and a sexual advance is made they force themselves on the victim. Rape is a serious act against on human rights. Rape affect rape victims long after the assault. In this paper I want readers to know what rape is and how it affects rape victims. Also to show ways rape can be prevented and how to help the victim and their families move pass the assault. Rape not only affect its victims it also affects their families. According to an article written by Monica Sarkar, for CNN , martial rape is legal in India women are assaulted by their...

...investor community there was in chaos as investors began to lose confidence in the financial statement being released by companies. The government had to step in order to stop the bleeding. Two members of the US congress had the foresight to find a solution to the problem. The solution that was implemented is known as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX). The Sarbanes-Oxley is a piece of legislation that changed the business world forever. The Act was created in order to raise investor confidence in the marketplace. One of the major problems the markets were facing was that greedy corporate officials were taken advantage of their position in order to make themselves rich at the expense of the shareholders and other stakeholders of the company. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act fixed the problem by making the CEO and top officials liable in cases of fraud. The section 302 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act mandates that senior management certify the accuracy of the financial reports (Answers, 2010). If there is fraud present in the financial statement of a company the top executive of the firm faces fines of up to $25 million and prison terms of up to 20 years. Another problem that existed prior to the creation of SOX was the possibility of collusion between the external auditors and the executive managerial staff. In the Enron case the auditors knew about the fraud, but decided to stay quiet due to economic interest. SOX changed the rules of the game with the creation of the independent...

...process that can assist managers in the formulation of their international expansion strategies and plans. A comprehensive model of international expansion is outlined and applied to determine the optimal country to be targeted for entry by a US hotel firm and the optimal entry mode to be used. The model consists of three sections. Section One (macro assessment) identifies the major external macroenvironmental variables that determine the risks and opportunities of international expansion: market size, market growth and purchasing power; political, economic, legal and regulatory risks; and cultural and geographic distances. Through macro assessment, countries with the optimal risk/opportunity profiles are identified and ranked. Section Two (micro assessment) is applied to the optimal countries identified in Section One to estimate the potential profitability and financial value created (as measured by net present value) of expanding a firm’s operations into these countries. Micro-environmental variables capturing the countries’ local market conditions and the firm’s specific characteristics are utilized to estimate potential profitability and net present value. Section Three focuses on the country, industry, and firm-specific factors that determine the optimal market entry...
