Adversity and struggle are common occurences of our lives. We often find ourselves in a state of adversity when things are not going our way. In Richard Wagamese’ The Indian Horse, Saul, the main character and the story’s protagonist, is faced with severe adversity, and struggle through emotional hardships. As the story progresses, Saul finds ways to overcome some of these issues through hockey and revisiting past memorable places. The following paper will cover the many things that degrade Saul, examine how he is able to ultimately overcome them, and cover his alcohol addiction.
