The Three Advertisement Rhetoric
The three-advertising rhetoric are ethos, pathos, and logos. According to the video, the art of rhetoric is known as persuasive technique in advertising. The goal remains the same no matter where found – bill boards, radio or print media, to convince my audience of my point of view. The aim is to make emotional appeals to trust them, build credibility, and use logic and reasoning to appeal to people. It is important to note that advertisers do not often use all three, but most times, combine two. The Greek philosopher, Aristotle was the first to speak of the three methods below:
Ethos is an appeal to ethics, which seeks to convince someone of the character or credibility of the persuader. We tend to believe those who we respect or hold in high esteem as someone worth listening to. In other words, their appearance or say so, establishes the credibility or character of the …show more content…
Hmm! The law and law makers allow them.
Logos is an appeal to logic or facts through reasoning. The logos of an advertisement are straight forward; they focus on facts, recorded events, and historical data utilizing studies and surveys. In other words, you are told exactly what the product does, how it works, and what it is used for. This way, you can make up your own mind or informed decision.
Advertisement #1 – Ethos and pathos. Through celebrity endorsement, it means that since known figures of our sports world appear in it, it must be a good product for us to eat or use Dominos pizza. Not true!
Advertisement #2 – Pathos, ethos, and logos. The safety and defense of our nation always appeals to all our five senses. Thus, to be a soldier or military person means that you are part of the elite few defending our nation.
Advertisement #3 – Logos. This means that once you have the affordable care insurance either for yourself or your family, your health is protected and guaranteed. Not always the case
