Assignment 3: Critical Thinking
1. Magazines would have the highest probability of an advertisement reaching me. I read magazines probably 2-3 hours a week. While this time is very low, I feel that they have a greater effect on me for many reasons. When I am reading a magazine, it is because I want to enjoy what contents it has to offer and I’m usually interested in the material they print. This means that I am actively reading the articles and scanning over the advertisements they are accompanied by. Since I’m interested in the material, their ads are usually something I am interested in as well. With all of these in mind, I am more likely to read any ads more thoroughly than I would in a subway station. I also trust ads in magazines that are geared towards my interests. They hold more credibility to me. I would say magazine ads may have a lower probability of being exposed to me, but they have a greater effect and hold more meaning. Newspapers have the lowest amount of exposure to me. I spend the least amount of time with newspapers during the week than any other medium. Since I use the internet as my news source, I rarely open a newspaper and give the print advertisements a chance to capture my attention.

2. Companies are willing to pay more for outdoor advertising for many reasons. Outdoor advertising is a low-cost media outlet in terms of cost per impression. There is a high frequency on major commuter routes, allowing companies to extend their reach and impression. Companies are able to get very creative with their outdoor advertising. Many use the environment to their advantage and are able to create something spectacular that catches the attention of viewers. No one can deny that consumers need the advertisings, but not which kind of advertising they need. Consumers need only the honest advertisings.
