Affect of Oil on Our Lives

People have been talking about running out of oil for a long time. There are indications that a few more discoveries are still possible. That's good news, but for how long can these reserves of oil last. Oil has been formed on earth since the creation billion of years ago and in one century we have consumed most of it. At least, we have used up the easy to extract oil and the vast reserves remaining in shale and other such marginal deposits are very expensive to extract. There are promising technologies that may make the extraction of that oil cheaper and cleaner. However, what will that buy us? Another thirty years? What then? What happens when we run out of oil? What will our children and grand children do if we just keep ignoring that certain fact? One major factor we use in our daily life and consumes huge amount of gas is our way of transportation; “The United States, the biggest country in the world, consumes 19.6 million barrels per day of oil which is more than 25% of the world's total” (Jason J. Churchill). In order to stay competitive and productive, millions of drivers in cars and trucks are running and burning gas every day on our huge and long freeways as part of their jobs. Obviously, we need cars to survive and keep our lifestyle. However, we can use different kind of cars such as hybrid cars that do the job and save huge amount of oil as well. Basically, “ A hybrid electric vehicle combines an internal combustion engine and an electric motor powered by batteries, The combination allows the electric motor and batteries to help the conventional engine operate more efficiently, cutting down on fuel use” (Hybrids Under the Hood). The gasoline-fueled combustion engine overcomes the limited driving range of an electric vehicle. This hybridization gives us the ability to drive 500 miles or more using less fuel and never

Business Ethics

...The Problem with Business Thesis: In many businesses today ethical decisions take a backseat to profit, I believe businesses should follow a set of ethical standards and not focus solely on profit for four reasons: (1) to have respect for human dignity, (2) private lives and business lives cannot be separated, (3) ethical decisions can lead to more profit, and (4) unethical decisions can lead to serious consequences for the people executing them. There are many decisions a business must make on a day-to-day basis. Many of these decisions will affect not only the business itself, but also every stakeholder in that business. Many times business will not take into account the number of people being affected. Businesses should not be so vital that they do not need to follow a set of ethical standards. Profit can be seen as the universal motivator for the majority of businesses today and focusing solely on profit can cause a business to lose its ethical standards. The loss of these standards can cause a trail of destruction caused by a business and cause it to lose a great amount of respect. There are countless examples of destruction caused by businesses like the BP oil spill or IBM supplying technology to Nazi Germany. There are four main reasons why ethical standards for businesses should be instilled. These are (1) to have respect for human dignity, (2) private lives and business lives cannot be separated, (3) ethical decisions can lead to more profit, and (4) unethical decisions...

...In our world today we face many challenges and question our local and state decisions more often than none. Looking at these three economic activates and how they play a positive role for our government, household, and business can be a very difficult thing to do. This has been a focus for our county, state, and local cities to find out what will help out our economy and our people. When viewing how groceries can impact our government, we can come up with many ways and ideas. The government controls how much taxes should be applied to groceries but they also control what can be sold in certain states. First, the government should be buying from our local cities or within our country so that the money stays in the states. This will lower our cost of buying goods because buying from other countries coast much more than buying within our own. This will also provide jobs because the higher request of products means more labor and more labor means employment opportunities. Buying goods for our households gives service to our business and buys labor services for our households. Then some of the tax revenue will provides services to both our business and household that also provides tax revenue directly back to our people. Another impactful way that buying goods affects our household is that it provides jobs for our people and which leads to people buy more products and land. This leads to our local business and other upcoming business to grow and develop. Groceries affect...

This is also a rating for a country’s standard of living. There are three ways to figure out this measure production approach, income approach, or expenditure approach. Real GDP This is a measure of value for an economic output which is adjusted for price changes. This measure also gives us an index for quantity of total output. Real GDP will also account to changes in price levels and then give an accurate figure. Nominal GDP This is a GDP measure that has yet to be adjusted for inflation. This is also known as the current dollar GDP. If inflation is not taken into account the GDP measure will seem higher than it actually is. Unemployment rate This is the percentage of people that are unemployed and not working but are actively looking for work. People who just receive unemployment or who are not working and not looking for work are not accounted for in this rate. Inflation rate This is the rate where the level of prices for goods and services is rising and the purchasing power is dropping. There are some banks that try and slow down or even stop major inflation from happening. While inflation rises, every dollar is worth...
