...Struggle For Education Education is something that’s highly sought after by many. If someone receives an education, endless opportunities are opened up to them. Thankfully, in America, education is readily available to most. Potential students in other countries aren’t so lucky. In America, people struggled for years to get an education, and in some places that struggle is still ongoing. One of the struggles for education in America was that of the African-Americans. Back when America was young, African-Americans were held as slaves. Thanks to a set of laws called “The Slave Codes”, it was illegal to teach slaves how to read or write. The white people’s reasoning behind these laws was that once their slaves were able to read or write, they would quickly become unhappy with their condition and become “unmanageable”. An...

...Education In civil rights in America was a major thing back in the 1950’s as African Americans wanted to have a better education and wanted to have a good life. The African Americans started protesting to get a better education and the world known one is Brown vs Board of Education in 1954 when she won the court case and got all “white schools” to be illegal from that day forward. Firstly, teaching had a crucial impact in post-1945 civil rights history. Much time and effort was spent on training the belief being that in a vote based system it was just right and reasonable that all individuals paying little mind to skin shading must have the privilege to good teaching. This issue of social equality and training stood out as truly interesting...

Web. 15 Feb. 2014. In the article ‘World-Class Education’, it said that education need to be affordable for the community of African American. Some African American children are dropout which had damaged the community. Without education, the middle class people would not be able to sustain their family which can lead to society loss. Parents need to back their children education and to avoid them from dropping out of school. The source wants the middle-class to educate themselves so that they could have greater life for themselves and their family. It pressure parents and children to get educated. I would use this article for my research paper because it explain how lack of education lead to poverty and homelessness. It also discussed the importance of education in the African American community and how it can prevent poverty and homelessness. This source is credible because it demanded quality education for the middle class and African American. The author had written many articles about education in the middle-class communities. ...State of the Union Address Analysis The following paper will discuss the recent 2011 State of the Union address as presented by President Barack Obama with particular regard to the implications the policies may have for African American Politics. Midway through his term, the address reconfirmed many of the policies presented previously. President Obama particularly emphasised the need for bipartisanship and respect for one another as a result of the recent Tucson tragedy. Democrats and Republicans intermingling in their seating displayed this. He called for all members of the “American family” to be “bound together as one people”. This is an important note when taking into account that of race for although over time the situation involving African Americans on the whole has improved, there are still many inequalities that still exist. The address emphasised three major points which will analyse innovation, education and infrastructure and technology. Continuing on the strong theme of unity, President Obama suggests that one of the most important investments the United States of America needs to make is that of innovation. He proposes that the nation needs to aim for “this generation’s Sputnik moment”. In this way, President Obama points out that developing nations like India and China are well on their way to becoming leaders in areas of technology and education. To continue being competitive in these areas he suggests the nation needs to “out-innovate, out-educate and outbuild”...

...The question is “Who are the notable African Americans who have earned Ph.D.s in mathematics?” Would researching the answer be significant? Is it important in the science of mathematics to investigate whether five Ph.D.s awarded to five African Americans between 1925 and 2000 imparts enough impact to the field to fill the gap in the canon of mathematics and history? My intention with this paper is to offer the reader the opportunity to consider the field of mathematics in which five individuals have made and are making contributions, while at the same time suggesting that their path to their achievements were unusual. The first section of this paper is a summary of these five. The second section is concise and provides an overview of how many math Ph.D.s, were awarded to African Americans during that same period. The next two sections examine the contributions and mathematical achievements in general and the barriers and psychology that perhaps has created a dismal increase in underrepresented populations entering the field. The final section highlights the importance and implication of stagnate educational pipelines. In addition, I would like to stretch the mind to consider educational practices, as we know them now and to urge the reader to, bear in mind that in the 21st century, we need the talents, contributions and resources of all citizens in United States. A Summary of Five Ph.D.s in Math from 1925 to 2000 While there are numerous achievements by minorities...
