After School Sports Analysis

For years there have been many arguments around the world debating whether schools should allow after school sports or not. Many people believe that academics should come before sports. Therefore, schools should not have sports in order to help students focus on their school work, cut costs, and increase standardized test scores.
Games and practices may distract students from doing their work and learning. In the Scholastic News article “Should Your School Get Rid of Sports” written by Amanda Ripley, it states that “Distraction, however, may be the greatest cost of all” (11). She goes on to say that “Focus shifts away from learning. Players spend long hours practicing, and that commitment extends to the rest of the school” (Ripley 11). Learning

Analysis Paper Graff

...September 2015 Hidden Intellectualism Analysis In his eight page essay, Gerald Graff argues that street smarts can very well be more intellectual than street smarts. Street smarts should be encouraged to learn in a way that interests them so they have the same equal opportunity to be just as or more intelligent to book smarts who benefit from school in a different way. Back in the 1950’s, you had to choose whether you were a “hood” or a “clean cut” boy. The culture the students grew up in forced them to pick whether they wanted to be book smart and be made fun of, or impress the hoods by being physically and verbally tough. Graff did not agree with this. Graff Believes that schools should want all students to learn efficiently on something that interests them. He argues that street smarts could be equally smart if schools would allow them to learn off of something in their interest. Graff benefited more from playing on the streets and magazines because he was interested in what he was doing. Book smarts enjoy reading schools books, so it is beneficial to them. Gerald Graff’s essay “Hidden Intellectualism” is a critique on how schools are missing out on the opportunity to encourage street smarts to learn in a more effective way. To inform schools and universities, Graff was driven into the writing of his essay from the frustration of street smarts not being able to receive a beneficial education at school like the other students in the 1950’s after World War II. His personal experience...

Badminton Officiatinjg

...2014 at The Henry Box School with the help of Jane Parkinson. The course went over a 4 hour period. We learnt the theory of badminton and practised skills on court through officiating and playing. After the course we had good enough knowledge to officiate for ourselves in tournaments and competitions. Before however we had to display the skills of all roles such as line judge, shuttle controller and scorer. I displayed my skills as a scorer and shuttle controller at a training session at Wood Green School as part of my Sports Leader programme. I later received my certificate from the Youth Sport Trust. Summary: College Athletes Should Be Paid

... However, getting the opportunity to play a sport in college should be a privilege rather than a job, seeing as the sport is almost always one which you love to compete in and enjoy. After all, the only reason that these people are on a team is because their school and coaches offered them the chance to play, so why should they have the opportunity to get paid for it? Because of this, I believe that college athletes should...

This was around the time many teachers began assigning projects and AP classes were coming to an end. The senior trip to Disney World, spring break, preparation for AP exams, and the excitement for graduation all made the seniors eager for the summer. The countdown had begun. We thought that a survey focusing on summer was a great idea to get a large sample size since many students would be interested in the topic. Even though, our main focus was the seniors and their thoughts about the summer, we also wanted to know what the underclassmen had to say about this topic. We distributed our surveys to a large population of high school students which included both genders: males and females; and all the grade levels. Personally, we are very excited about the summer...

During this time, attendance averaged around 7,000 fans per game and provided an economical and fun night out for adults and kids alike. After a brief hiatus of two years, San Jose moved their affiliate to the city however the results were not like past years. As ticket prices rose and the product on the ice declined with several non-playoff seasons, attendance averages dropped to just over 4,000 (figure 1) and the cost of sending players across the country weighed heavily on the parent club. Although there have been bumps and struggles, Worcester remains a strong market for a professional hockey team, especially one with ties to a local NHL club such as the Boston Bruins. This paper will identify the target population, the sampling methods used, methods of data collection and methods of administration. Thus help the city of Edinburgh council to have a general picture of following points: 1) Provide a detailed mapping of the current level of sports participation and the intention for the future 2) Identify the aspects of the games that have been most memorable/ produced greatest impression 3) Explore potential association between impressions from the games and future sports activities. The council is concerned that the findings should be representative of the Edinburgh school children in general, and suggests that age, gender, existing level of sports engagement being important predictors of research result. To generalize from the sample to the population, the sample has to be representative of the population. Observation before the survey I plan to begin with exploratory qualitative techniques: observation of selected primary students to understand the problem and bringing to the surface issues in the research project. This activity often help crystallize the problem or otherwise open the researcher’s eyes to factors and considerations that might be overlooked if he rushed into a full-scale survey. The...
