Social learning process is very complicated and normally requires some guidance. Without proper guidance from an experienced member of the society, no one can develop sound social learning skills. In most cases, learning takes the formal or informal inclinations and occurs in day-to-day lives a people. Therefore, it becomes quite imperative to know how to tackle different issues that affect one’s life insofar as one remains a social urgent in the society. Based on this background, this paper looks into the social education that takes place in the lives of characters in the novel Agnes Grey.
Throughout the novel, there is a series of learning processes that take place. The learning is majorly received through instructions that people acquire from others around them. From the beginning, the novel talks about all true histories containing instructions (Bronte 1). This is a critical predict that gives a clear indication that the book has a lot to do with learning. According to fuller and Stone the learning process is embedded in mixture of different cultural and family practices. These include family languages, and social customs (154).
The main character in the novel, Agnes, notes that her mother took charge of their educating her sister Mary and herself. Their father also took initiative of teaching them Latin (Bronte 2). This was very useful to her. As Barbarin and Wasik note, the crucial role of social education and use of cultural based learning, have the potential of transforming instructions and improving the social outcomes for children (3). The process of learning instills some useful idea in people, which are of relevance to their lives.
