...One hundred and six headless torsos frozenly traverse a small portion of the southwest corner of Grant Park. All made of cast-iron and standing 9 feet tall, these figures collectively make up the Agora, an installation by Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz. It took two years of molding and casting by the artist and her assistants at the Srem foundry in Poland before being transported to Chicago for its erection in October 2006 (Abakanowicz, Agora 2003-2006). The viewer is encouraged to walk amongst these creatures as both participant and outsider. There is no clear starting point so you are free to choose what direction you want to take through it. I, personally, began on the end closest to Roosevelt Avenue where most of the figures are placed closer together, facing the center and each other. This side of the installation feels more intimidating, as the close proximity of the figures leave very small spaces for you to actually be able to get through much like how you would feel as a child in a large crowd. As you progress through to the other end, the gaps start to widen as the sculptures begin “heading out” and away from the central mass. The opposite end is a reversal of its partner where instead of coming together, the structures are walking away from each other....

...Globalization has changed the lifestyle of the urban people in Bangladesh. The retail market is not only expanding but also moving towards a different dimension as the number of superstores is increasing. The numbers of superstores are increasing in our country to satisfy the demand of customers. As more and more urban people are entering to the shopping zone of superstores, customer satisfaction has been identified as a critical strategic issue in the retail industry. Understanding of what creates a satisfying customer experience becomes crucial for superstores success in attracting more customers to purchase. It is necessary for the retailers to understand the customers’ wants and needs to increase the level of their satisfaction and loyalty. Finally, effective satisfaction creates a long term relationship between the sellers and the buyers as well as increasing their loyalty through repeat purchase behavior and attitudes, all of which help retailers to increase the market share and profit. The customers’ decision on shopping behavior as well as customers’ wants and needs are sophisticated and important to the effect that retailers seek to build a stable and long-term relationship with their consumers. Thus, retailers are able to improve the customers’ satisfaction that later turns into the customers’ loyalty and finally customer retention. ...Retail trade is one of the traditional businesses of Bangladesh. Its expansion is keeping pace with population growth and changes in consumption patterns, which are consistent with the growth of the economy. This expansion has not been structurally organized, because, until recently, retailing had never been perceived as an industry, but rather as an individual or family business entity with a very limited scope of organized expansion. Little to no market information is available on the retail sector, but secondary sources indicate that the size of the food retail sector in Bangladesh could be US$12-14 billion, and the number of retail grocery shops could be around 1 million. Retail is one of the biggest sources of employment (12 percent), and it contributed 13 percent (wholesale and retail trading) to Bangladesh’s GDP. Organized retail is booming and creating huge opportunity for enterprises. Retailers though sell other companies products work out their own marketing strategies fixing their own target market towards providing customer satisfaction separately. Retail stores irrespective of product line and relative prices emerge in all shape and sizes, such as Specialty stores, Department stores, Supermarkets, Superstore, Convenience stores, Discount stores and off- price stores. Current Market Scenario of Super Market: Superstores are set to boom in the country as the current market players are planning to open several hundred more outlets in the next few years...

...Malaysia | Mominul Plabon Executive Summary The following marketing plan forms the basis for introduction of a milk powder named Agora milk powder in two countries like Bangladesh and Malaysia. This study combines the selection of the countries based on their income level as the purpose of the study is to identify the distinctions of marketing strategies in developed, less developed and developing countries. During the analysis there are several remarkable trends found in two countries such as it seen developing countries have a large demand for foreign product while developed country have good level of self sufficiency. Furthermore, in developing country entry barriers are low as compared to developed country. The key opportunities found in Bangladesh are; a great demand of powder milk due the vast shortage of liquid milk production, low-cost labour force, increasing use of technology and so on. On the other hand, in Malaysia the social, economical and technological structure are very attractive for Agora milk powder while a few trade restrictions also exist. However, based on the analysis two different marketing strategies have been adopted with the reason that both country differ to each other in terms of their structure and culture. In this term, a careful design of the marketing mix have been considered for both countries so that Agora milk powder can be presented in way that the competitors find difficult to imitate. ...They located themselves this way to avoid attacks from pirates. They eventually grew, unplanned, into the cities that we know today. Most, if not all, had an agora. An agora was the market place and civic center of the city state. The agora was the heart of greek social life, filled with open air arguments and discussion. The city state's location was also determined by the fertility of farmland, because they were mainly agricultural, and the availability of natural fortress. The name polis originally referred to a citadel. And, seeing as how natural fortress was one of the things sought out in the creation of a new town, it would only make sense that the term “polis” would eventually be used to refer to the city state itself. Two perfect examples of this would be the Acropolis in Athens and the Acrocorinth in...

Eu me mantive falando, apenas isso. Eu nunca tinha me sentido...

No entanto, as coisas mudaram rapidamente. ...inception of Agora’s journey in 2001, the Bangladeshi supermarket sector has taken a steady and assuring stride forward. After 12 years and 105 stores, the domestic industry now stands at around BDT 1500 crore. As Bangladesh shifts towards the middle income status, all the advantages that associates, such as higher income per capita and urbanization, will further expedite the industry’s profitability. A closer look According to the BSOA (Business Supermarkets Owner’s Association) currently there are 105 supermarkets in the country. In spite of this, the industry is largely dominated by three major players – Shwapno (45 Outlets), Agora (13 Outlets) and Meena Bazar (18 Outlets). Once a key competitor, Nandan, now holds just two stores. In terms of distribution network and competitive prices, Swapno has entrenched itself as the market leader, whereas, Agora and Meena Bazar are viewed as market leaders in terms of quality and services. Source: Rahimafrooz and LankaBangla Primary Research With rapid urbanization, the industry is expected to grow by almost 15 times its current size by 2021. ...© 2000 OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT JOURNAL Community participation in development: nine plagues and twelve commandments Lucius Botes and Dingie van Rensburg Downloaded from http://cdj.oxfordjournals.org/ at AGORA Kenya Administration account on December 4, 2013 ABSTRACT Many development thinkers and practitioners have been pondering over community participation for the last two to three decades – some even called the 1980s the decade of participation. To a large extent the current decade of social movements, non government organizations (NGOs) and community based organizations (CBOs), is a manifestation of organized community participation. By analyzing the dynamics of community participation, particularly in the South African urban upgrading context, nine obstacles and impediments (‘plagues’) are exposed which serve to illustrate participatory development as a complex and difficult, though essential and challenging endeavour. Twelve draft guidelines (‘commandments’) are also presented in trying to address these obstacles associated with participatory development. Introduction Community participation in development is advocated for various noble reasons and is often rhetorical and permeated with lofty sentiments. However, to criticize these advantages of community participation would appear to be ungenerous. As a concept, ‘community participation’ is one of the most overused, but least understood concepts in developing countries without a serious...
