Relauch of Frooti

...Relaunch of Frooti-The 'Digen Verma' Campaign “Our aim was to create hype around the product, so we introduced a mysterious character called ‘Digen Verma.’ As our target audience is the youth segment, we wanted to showcase their rebellious spirit through Digen Verma.” -Ram Sehgal, MD, Everest Integrated Communications. ''Frooti has always been positioned as a drink for kids. Now, we want to position it as a drink for the youth, especially, the college-going teenagers. We therefore went in for a real life, down-to-earth person, who, like any college student likes to bunk classes, is a good sportsman and is a popular figure in the college, with whom the teenagers can actually associate themselves.'' -Alka Bhonsle, Management Consultant, Parle Agrochemicals. WHO IS DIGEN VERMA? There was no getting away from him. A poster at a bus stop in Chennai asked, “Will Digen Verma be in the next bus?” Or, when watching a movie; there was bound to be an interruption all of a sudden with a handwritten message saying, ‘Digen, your car is being towed’. And, outside in the car park, almost all the cars had stickers on them saying, ‘Digen Verma was here.’ In many commercial places in metros and even far off places like Simla, there were footmarks accompanied by the mysterious words ‘Digen Verma was here’ pasted. There were rumours galore about ‘Digen Verma’ and his identity. Some thought it was a campaign for the launch of some new fashion label, while others thought Digen Verma he was...

Doss Yale University Cheryl Doss Yale Center for International and Area Studies P.O.Box 208206 New Haven, CT 06520-8206, USA 203-432-9395 (office) 203-432-9886 (fax) Cheryl.Doss@yale.edu 2 Abstract: Although the questions about the use of improved technologies in developing country agriculture have expanded to include the roles of policies, institutions and infrastructure, most micro-level adoption studies can not address these important policy issues. Drawing on an extensive review of the literature on the adoption of agricultural technologies, this paper suggests alternative approaches for designing technology adoption studies to make them useful for policy makers. It explores the generic limitations of cross-sectional adoption studies carried out in small number of communities and discusses the problems faced in conducting such studies. Recommendations include the use of sampling approaches that allow data from micro-studies to be generalized to higher levels of aggregation, adherence to clearly defined terms that are standardized across studies, and carefully examining the assumptions that often underlie such studies. In addition, the use and interpretation of proxy variables for the policy variables are discussed. Keywords: agricultural technology, adoption 3 ANALYZING TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION: CHALLENGES AND LIMITATIONS OF MICRO-STUDIES 1. Introduction For most of the world’s poorest countries...

The chicken manure, cow manure and paddy rice were mixed together in 1:1:0.5 ratio to from organic fertilizer. The treatments of organic fertilizer were given in 5 levels (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 ton/ha). At one level organic fertilizer 1.5 ton/ha was mixed with inorganic fertilizers (N-50, P-25, K-25 kg / ha) and recommended dose of inorganic fertilizer-NPK (N=100, P=50, K=50 kg/ha) was used as check. The plants without treatments were served as control. Grain yield and its components were significantly increased in all the treatments over control. The maximum grain yield in 2008 (4335.88 kg/ha) was noted in plants treated with 2 ton/ha organic fertilizer and it was (4662...

...Economic Study on Textile Industry A REPORT on Indian Textile Industry Indian Textile Industry The textile industry is the largest industry of modern India. It accounts for over 20 percent of industrial production and is closely linked with the agricultural and rural economy. It is the single largest employer in the industrial sector employing about 38 million people. If employment in allied sectors likes ginning, agriculture, pressing, cotton trade, jute, etc. are added then the total employment is estimated at 93 million. The net foreign exchange earnings in this sector are one of the highest and, together with carpet and handicrafts, account for over 37 percent of total export earnings at over US $ 10 billion. Textiles, alone, account for about 25 percent of India’s total forex earnings. India’s textile industry since its beginning continues to be predominantly cotton based with about 65 percent of fabric consumption in the country being accounted for by cotton. The industry is highly localized in Ahmedabad and Bombay in the western part of the country though other centers exist including Kanpur, Calcutta, Indore, Coimbatore, and Sholapur. The structure of the textile industry is extremely complex with the modern, sophisticated and highly mechanized mill sector on the one hand and the hand spinning and hand weaving (handloom) sector on the other. Between the two falls the small-scale...

Economic Growth Models

...THE FUTURE OF ECONOMIC CONVERGENCE* Dani Rodrik Harvard University August 2011 * This is a paper prepared for the 2011 Jackson Hole Symposium of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, August 25-27, 2011. I am grateful to Arvind Subramanian for helpful conversations and to UNIDO for making their INDSTAT4 data base available. I also thank Cynthia Balloch for research assistance and the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard for financial assistance. I. Introduction Novelists have a better track record than economists at foretelling the future. Consider then Gary Shteyngart‘s timely comic novel ―Super Sad True Love Story‖ (Random House, 2010), which provides a rather graphic vision of what lies in store for the world economy. The novel takes place in the near future and is set against the backdrop of a United States that lies in economic and political ruin. The country‘s bankrupt economy is ruled with a firm hand by the IMF from its new Parthenon-shaped headquarters in Singapore. China and sovereign wealth funds have parceled America‘s most desirable real estate among themselves. Poor people are designated as LNWI (―low net worth individuals‖) and are being pushed into ghettoes. Even skilled Americans are desperate to acquire residency status in foreign lands. (A degree in econometrics helps a lot, as it turns out). Ivy League colleges have adopted the names of their Asian partners and yuan-backed dollars are the only safe currency. This is sheer fantasy...
