Staying at an “agriturismo” would allow an individual to be immersed in a cultural experience that would not be achieved by staying in predominant tourist attraction areas. One may expect to learn about agendas, seasons of produce, local favorites, culinary aspects, land, climate, culture, farming as a business/career, and more. Agendas may entail societal norms such as eating, sleeping, working, etc. and farming schedules (i.e. what time does a farmer need to start to achieve their daily goals). Agendas could be learned through observation or societal expectations. Seasons of produce (when things are grown, what can be grown, etc.) may also be learned. Kingsolver spoke about the different olive oils and how each town takes pride in their own olive oil. This would probably be learned through conversation with the locals and various food options in the area. An individual may learn about the land while staying at an agriturismo. By receiving a first-hand experience with farming, a person may receive information on the specific elements in the soil and the benefits of the various natural elevations and depths of the land for agriculture purposes. Climate is also likely be addressed during this vacation for packaging purposes and insight into what can be sustained in the specific area (i.e. produce). Various elements pertaining to culture would be learned. This could involve farming customs (i.e. use of chemicals and technology), manners (i.e. turning down food, etc.), meal customs (i.e. typical courses) and language. Finally, a person may gain more insight into the business aspects of agriculture, such as who are their consumers, is it a sustainable source of income, who enforces rules/laws, are there rules/laws, what is most profitable, what kind of variety can be grown, etc.
