Title: Supply Chain Analysis of Binagol in selected main ports in Leyte

Methodology

This study was conducted in three major ports in Leyte: Ormoc Sea port Terminal/Landport and, Tacloban Air Port and Terminal/Landport involving 100 key informant (KI) Binagol retailers, processors and main producers from Binagol-producing municipalities of Leyte. This was operationalized by the Supply Chain approach, where its activities transform natural resources, raw materials and components into finished product that is delivered to the end customer.
The primary and secondary data was gathered for this study. The primary data was gathered through personal interviews with the Key Informant (KI) respondents, observation of their entire chain or the “Observation Technique” that can get information including the production costs, the sales of the Binagol in their respective main ports in Leyte, the information of the Talyan plantation as well as the farmers involved, and other key players (distributors, suppliers, manufacturers, logistics etc.) who involved in the flow of supply chain in Binagol.

The other data which were the secondary one was gathered through Cluster Sampling. This type is more cost-effective to select respondents in groups or “clusters” based on the main ports they belonged. The statistical data will be computed and analyzed through SPSS Statistics, is a software package used for statistical analysis. It is now officially named "IBM SPSS Statistics". Companion products in the same family are used for survey authoring and deployment (IBM SPSS Data Collection), data mining (IBM SPSS Modeler), text analytics, and collaboration and deployment (batch and automated scoring services).

It contained the information given by a statistical record of the Binagol industry including the SMEs and the assigned major ports in Leyte, the news updates and its feature story about the technology, production and other functional activities, programs, seminars and project implementation were gathered also from the government agencies including the DOST Region 8, DTI-8, DA-8 and other agencies, School Campuses (EVSU main campus, LNU, etc.), and other resource materials like magazines, newspapers, internet, journals, books and theses. Those published data were obtained to determine the efficient flow of supply chain with the respective key players and its assigned major ports in Leyte.

Supply chain performance was analyzed with the used of Supply chain Surplus Estimation Approach across the major producers of Binagol Industry supplies in Leyte’s main ports. For additional information gathering, FGD was also conducted. The data came from the respondents like the farmers themselves, the retailers, and main producers.
