Abstract This assignment is going to identify the smart sentry tracking system as a scenario at DHL Company. In addition it is going to discuss the functions of this technology with the expansion to the advantages, disadvantages, and the impact of this system to the organization and the customer. Furthermore, the assignment is going to apply the similarities and difference of computing technology to DHL organization. Finally, it is going to apply the most reasonable recommendations which are going to help the company to improve its performance in the market.

1.0 Introduction DHL Express is a multinational German logistics company originally founded in 1969 to deliver documents between San Francisco and Honolulu; the company expanded its service throughout the world by the late 1970s. Deutsche Post DHL offers variety of services focusing on international express mail services. Nowadays, DHL is present in over 220 countries and territories across the globe, with a workforce exceeding 285,000 employees, as it provides solutions for an almost infinite number of logistics needs making it the most international company in the world. DHL aggressively expanded to countries that could not be served by any other delivery service, including the Eastern Block, Soviet Union, China, Vietnam, North Korea, Iraq and Iran. In 1998, Deutsche Post began to acquire shares in DHL. The world's largest logistics company operating all over the world is Deutsche Post. The world market leader in air and sea mail is DHL as it has more resources in place than any other logistics company in the world and it was primarily interested in offshore and intercontinental deliveries, but the success of FedEx prompted their own intra-U.S. (Greatestlogo.com, 1969).

2.0 A current scenario
2.1 Tracking at DHL The DHL Smart Sentry locator is one of the modern technologies, which is considered as the first device to be certified by the Federal Aviation, as it changes the supply chain over the world. Mission-critical packages shipped medical and pharmaceutical companies which require urgent delivery are being aided by DHL's new real-time wireless locator device that can be affixed to boxes containing those critical packages. Smart sentry tracking is intended for one-time users, and for companies that have regularly ship for urgent materials. This scenario is applied by DHL competitors. The Smart Sentry is more valuable because it goes to the heart of customer expectation from a package delivery service. "Customers don't want their money back if there's a problem with a package." Gopper, the current CEO of DHL, said. He went on to say: "They want it delivered on-time and in the desired condition" (computerworld.com, 2011).

3.0 Functionality Tracking system at DHL Company allows customers to track their shipments progress from pickup through to delivery. DHL has its own unique online tools which are easy to use and allow customers to know for certain where in the world their package is located at any given time. The company uses GPS technology and RFID system to track customer's packages in real-time. The GPS system works to show the route and the location that the shipment stands in, moreover and RFID system works to detect the condition of the shipment.

During the implantation smart tracking is not meant for one-time users, but for a company which has regularly shipped for urgent materials. Here, the DHL Company uses the devices to observe the location of an antidote sent in an emergency. Sensors in this device will also track changes in temperature, pressure, humidity, vibration and shock. The device also knows to switch off automatically while on a flight to avert interrupting airline communications, such as passengers on flights must turn off their mobile. GPS works through specifying information on exact location. Besides that, it tracks the movement of a vehicle or person. In DHL GPS tracking system is able to be used by the company to observe the road and progress of a delivery truck. The GPS tracking system in the vehicle is able to assist police work out where the vehicle was taken to if it was stolen. Many fleet operators find that having a GPS tracking system in place actually works as an extra security deterrent for this reason.

Furthermore, the exist satellite signals from GPS, are processed by a receiver. This GPS receiver tracks the exact location, compute velocity and time. The situations can be computed in three-dimensional views with the assist of four GPS satellite signals.

There are tools which have to be attached to consumer goods, vehicles, cattle and other objects to track their movements such as small, battery-less microchip. RFID tags are passive and only transmit data if prompted by a reader. 4.0 Advantages

It's because of its inclusion of sensors for key criteria such as temperature, pressure, humidity, shock, location and vibration. This can be achieved by using multiple modes of sensing and proprietary logic, giving it the necessary intelligence to automatically suppress its wireless radios to an off mode, thus ensuring safe and FAA-compliant operation during flight (supplychaindigital.com (2011)).

4.2 Customer satisfaction and revenue Real-time asset tracking systems that harness the cooperating power of the web enables DHL to increase top-line revenues. In addition, it provides customers value-added services which make customers comfortable. On the other hand, it might save money by averting lost shipments and customer resentment.

4.3 COMPLETE Visibility enhancement Smart sentry tracking innovation will provide enhanced visibility along the entire supply chain. It also offers increased security for the expedited handling of sensitive cargo. Unlike the past, technology offers the cargo insight for the customers by making everything transported visible.

4.4 Reliability The smart tracking system is more reliable as customers enjoy its process, Smart Tracking offers reliability in different aspects such as fewer arrival and departure delays for passengers, and fewer diversions of arriving flights to other airports.

5.0 Disadvantages
5.1 Accuracy Environmental factors such as water and other particles lead to slow down the signals for the system. These factors and signals bounce off buildings and trees to create the inaccuracies of the system. Ethical concerns arise when a person carrying a receiver has their location transmitted to the user. Smart tracking has a wide variety of applications including tracking dementia sufferers, tracking parolees and law enforcement.

5.2 Poor Location Determination Wi-Fi is not able to implement this function very well as regards the location determination, as the essential goal of real time tracking system is to precisely determine the accurate location of an object or person. This problem relates to the relatively short 2.4 GHz wavelength used for Wi-Fi data transmission and its susceptibility to signal loss. As a result of that, tag affixed shown to a piece of equipment or a patient communicates with an access point (AP) via a radio frequency (RF) transmission.
5.3 Indoor usage One of its technological constraints of the tracking system and GPS that it cannot be used indoors. This exposed after the possibility of using existing wireless technologies to create an indoors wireless positioning system to include the GPS.

Smart technology enabled DHL to monitor real time conditions and uses alerts to intervene if necessary and ensures an on time delivery.

This means DHL is more able to concentrate on managing the flight's overall performance. 7.1 Internet application In today's world, the internet is an important thing in our hand; it basically consists of unnumbered networks and computers, which encourage the people around the world to share information. Through the internet, data can be transferred to long distances by huge lines which considered the real part of the internet. Thus, internet service suppliers are maintaining these networks because they get a huge amount of the revenue and benefits over the internet, so they have the motivation to keep maintaining the internet users every day they use it.

Nowadays, the internet is very essential which makes personal information is more accessible over the Internet as well as customer service. As communication and information travels faster and faster, the world seems smaller and smaller. This leads to large implications DHL conduct its operational business. The next is to Store important in files on a computer rather than in drawers using the internet, as it made the communication and information more accessible. On the other hand, businesses communication increase by using emails within the organization or send files quickly to remote locations outside of an office.

The internet has changed business behavior with the customers through communication strategies, the way customers contacting the companies and learning from the communication, conversation and collaboration within the company.

7.1.4 Internet and DHL As a global company, DHL has realized the potential of the Internet and the company have been using the Internet to communicate with its customers since years ago of its operation. DHL has responded to ever-increasing use of our sites by continually improving its infrastructure and technology so that today DHL use the Internet to deliver a range of services and information worldwide. Company view information technology and services as a critical part of the business offers and a way in which company can create the competitive advantage over its competitors where they imitate DHL smart sentry tracking system. In addition to that, internet helps the company to improve its efficiency of its business and integrate seamlessly with customers and clients.

Since then, the company has maintained its position at the forefront of Information Technology. It is investing heavily each year in development and infrastructure and the internet application. DHL has to implement the technological innovation in order to make sure the information that customers need is available when they want it, and the way they receive these services with appropriate and secure method.
It's an important for DHL to recognize global market where users need access to the services globally in the fastest method, and it should ensure that service is delivered consistently through company global IT organization.

7.2 Mobile computing Mobile computing is the usage of mobile and wireless devices which are beneficial to the community. One of the specific factors in mobile computing is accessible by portable. This includes accessing a network or other communication partners without using wires. By mobile computing, many systems used applications in our daily life, such as emergency situations, vehicles, businesses, and infotainment technologies, for instance GSM, UMTS, GPS and WLAN. As the mobile computing has introduced for people to control their computing and access to be easier and more flexible. A company has to think about this, especially when they want to have a computing program system which readily to be attainable and portable for their customers. They have to consider for the efficiency of these mobile computing which really useful in their work process

DHL Company has been applied mobile computing concept for its business operation within the company, which is helpful and works well for the company, and it should satisfy the customers by providing them with the easiest ways to get access to their shipping information. The tracking system is one of the systems in DHL Company, which is used. The tracking system is a system designed to find the shipment's location and its situation inside. DHL operates this system through the connection to website supplier in order to find their shipment. This path automatically requires the customers to get access to the internet, which is considered more restful if it supplies the portable system network, such as wireless network connection. There are different aspects of mobile computing which are convenient with this system, such as GPS (Global Positioning System) and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), an intervention resource for instance Radio Frequency, and how the communication's system operates tracking with the mobile computing. By these types of aspects, it proves that mobile computing and the tracking system that DHL grasped. The tracking system is obtaining easier for customers to be accessed, more credible, and advanced. There are some similarities and differences in some aspects of mobile computing with DHL Company.

7.2.1 Similarities
7.2.1.1 GPS (Global Positioning System) "GPS stands for Global Positioning System which is a combination of satellites. GPS unit use to be programmed with maps of specific areas, with all the roads and streets. So the position can be located easily with the help of satellite" (wifinotes.com, 2011). In DHL tracking system uses GPS devices to detect the location of the shipments that works as related to the network layer. The GPS device puts in DHL vehicle or freight which includes all their goods. It is so effective device, especially in shipment system to observe the vehicle or freight where they drop the shipment at that time. By online system, the GPS is a satellite which tracking whole world way and supply a route to a road length and time that need to spend to get to the destination.

The location of shipments is tracked by a GPS integrated tracking system at DHL. The real-time data provided through GPS Tracking System which helps company to improve its supply chain processes, to better evaluate monitor container routes, delivery times and most importantly, is to minimize expenses of risk management. With this service, customers can monitor their freights everywhere in the world online and in real time.

7.2.2 Differences
7.2.2.1 RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) "RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) a data collection technology that uses electronic tags for storing data. The tag, also known as an "electronic label," "transponder" or "code plate," is made up of an RFID chip attached to an antenna. Transmitting in the kilohertz, megahertz and gigahertz ranges, tags may be battery-powered or derive their power from the RF waves coming from the reader" (pcmag.com, 2006). RFID is a device to locate an object using radio frequency which puts in the shipments that are owned by DHL. This device uses to help the company to detect in detail more about the shipment condition, besides its location from the GPS. The function of RFID system is primarily the same one which barcode system works; to store and provide information about the product. RFID is a symbol by a tag which designs same as barcode design. It consists of a microchip which contains a small antenna to transmit the information to the reading device (RFID reader), so it will be revealed automatically by that RFID reader. Significantly, more information about the shipments can be saved in the microchip that put on the barcode label – up to several kilobytes. This system is able to be easily revealed by radio broadcast as fast and in any dimension.

The contactless RFID process leads to increase loading and unloading speeds, at the least possible time. Therefore, the process of the traditional observing by barcode scanner with visible control. 7.3 Application Security
7.3.1 Similarities
7.3.1.1 SSL (Secure Socket Layer)

As mentioned earlier DHL uses Proview website to enable its customer to view its package under the GPS system radar. It is prone to Hackers attack, this will cause customer shipment information being leaked to the public. This allow unauthorized user to retrieve its information and use it for unethical purpose such as stealing the package or changing the delivery address. Therefore the website has to be secure and to prevent leak of customer information to the public. Therefore DHL Proview webpage uses SSL to encrypt the information transmit between the user and the website. Internet Packets without encryption will allow unethical hackers to retrieve the information in full detail and fully readable by anyone. This would eventually affect company reputation. Thus as showed below, Proviewso.com is using encryption protocol which categorize as SSL which covered under CITW topic. The webpage uses RSA public-key encryption; RSA is a type of encryption method using advance factoring method to encrypt its data. During internet packet transmission, information is more secure as unethical hackers will have trouble deciphering the encryption pattern.

7.3.1.2 Backup System
In any operating system up to existence, it will prone to system failure. It may cause by virus attack over the internet or the hardware. This is important matter when this topic comes to enterprise computing in an organization. For DHL using GPS tracking system, all its record is digitalize on electronic file and store on its server and connected to the internet. Oracle which is one of the largest database enterprise in the world owning its own cloud server and also as one of the business partner of DHL. With help from Oracle to manage its Information System over the cloud system. If any failure to the operating system or database about the GPS system. It can be easily backup over the internet.

7.3.1.3 Virus attack DHL logistic company uses GPS tracking device and RFID in their logistic system. Thus making this system one of the ultimate assets to the organization business. Having a secure website such as Proview is good , that can prevent unethical hackers from sabotaging users over the internet trying to use the GPS. Yet under press release, DHL announce there is new virus hat attached them under email notifying users that DHL has a package deliver for them. 8.0 Provide recommendations/proposals
8.1 Battery life preservation DHL should conserve battery power by reducing the screen brightness for smart sentry tracking. It's by adjusting GPS screen brightness, which refer to the instructions from user mobile or internet. Every GPS is slightly different, but DHL can usually use a function key, a combination of keys, or a software tool to dim the screen in order to make the data more accurate.

8.2 Management development Risk management should be efficient as it is one of the key interests to the high-tech devices. As it's known the recent disasters in Japan and Thailand, the topic of managing risk has become one of the heated issues in the supply chain manufacture, and Smart Sentry may be one of the keys to preserving quality in the midst of unforeseen chaos.

8.3 Technology and development DHL should go widely in developing the product alone, as its partner in delivering, the airline industry, simply did not have the funds to invest in such specialized technology .While such case-sensitive deliveries were imperative, are not common, occupying a select status of the market which the broad service concentration of the airline industry could fiscally not vindicate with heavy investment. Besides that DHL should be updated with its rivals in the market.

9.0 Conclusion This document analyzed the current CIT applications at DHL in particular its world acclaimed tracking system. The current scenario of the tracking system being used by DHL was also analyzed. DHL tracks its customer's packages in real-time using GPS technology. The functionality of the GPS and RFID integrated tracking system was also discussed. The customers of DHL can easily track their shipments in real-time through the internet. The document went on to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the tracking technology currently being employed at DHL. Lastly, we analyzed the similarities and differences of the implementation and usage of CIT at DHL compared to what we learned in class.
