For time immemorial, soybean has been known as the best source of plant protein and is rich in nutritive minerals and dietary fiber. Recently, nutraceutical aspects of the bean have become well recognized even in the western world. Foods derived from soybean have been shown to selectively lower the bad cholesterol and aid in reducing the chances of developing cancer. In women, soyfoods consumption minimizes the menopause symptoms. For this reason and because of its color, soybean is aptly referred as the Golden Bean.
The use of soybean in foods has been rather limited outside the Orient, mainly due to the rancid-oil-like taste problem of such foods, especially those derived from soymilk. This bad taste is imparted by the catalytic action of lipoxygenase enzyme in synthesizing off-flavor causing volatiles from lipids in the bean in the presence of water and oxygen. Until recently, the only successful way of combating the offflavor problem was to kill the lipoxygenase enzyme, such as by thermal and/or chemical treatment. However, killing the enzyme is like treating cancer; for the process also adversely affects a lot of good protein cells, making the extraction of soluble protein in water very difficult.
The Golden Bean was finally tamed with the invention of a natural process in which the soybeans are ground in water in the absence of air at a temperature that is too low to adversely affect the lipoxygenase enzyme and the proteins. This air-less cold-grind process permits the soluble solids in soybean to easily dissolve or make a colloid in water. Any heat treatment necessary to make the product digestible is performed only after air-less cold-grind step. It results in clean tasting soymilk without the characteristic chalkiness imparted by

The present study confirms the generally accepted notion that UM and USM are the leading public universities. These two universities are the oldest in Malaysia, established in 1959 and 1969 respectively. In fact, both these universities were ranked at the top 200 in the first THES-QS Best Universities ranking in 2004. UM continues to be ranked in the top 200 of the 2014 QS Best Universities ranking. In 2012, UM became the first university to be ranked in the Shanghai Jia Tong AWRU top 500 universities. It is now ranked in the 301–400 list of the AWRU 2014. In 2014, the USM was included in the top 500 for the first time. It is expected that private universities will continue to strengthen their research productivity to enhance their image locally as it will be a good marketing strategy. 1. Tan...

When He Was Bad

...“It doesn‟t have to be complicated. You and me and a mutual attraction. It doesn‟t come much simpler than that.” “Good times—is that all you‟re about?” Ellie shook her head. “Of course you are. Men like you always are.” “Men like me?” “Arrogant, ego as wide as the blue Aussie sky. Always looking out for number one.” Matt studied her. The telltale blush, the sparkle in those eyes, the way her fingers played over the back of the chair. “You‟re a contradiction, do you realize that? You say you don‟t want complicated, yet you‟re rejecting simple. What do you want, Ellie Rose?” Her mouth tightened and she swept to the door, yanked it open. Then she turned and glared back at him. “With you, Matt McGregor? Nothing. I just want to be left alone.” When not teaching or writing, ANNE OLIVER loves nothing more than escaping into a book. Great Expectations

...Great Expectations By Charles Dickens Download free eBooks of classic literature, books and novels at Planet eBook. Subscribe to our free eBooks blog and email newsletter. Chapter 1 M y father’s family name being Pirrip, and my Christian name Philip, my infant tongue could make of both names nothing longer or more explicit than Pip. So, I called myself Pip, and came to be called Pip. I give Pirrip as my father’s family name, on the authority of his tombstone and my sister - Mrs. Joe Gargery, who married the blacksmith. As I never saw my father or my mother, and never saw any likeness of either of them (for their days were long before the days of photographs), my first fancies regarding what they were like, were unreasonably derived from their tombstones. The shape of the letters on my father’s, gave me an odd idea that he was a square, stout, dark man, with curly black hair. From the character and turn of the inscription, ‘Also Georgiana Wife of the Above,’ I drew a childish conclusion that my mother was freckled and sickly. To five little stone lozenges, each about a foot and a half long, which were arranged in a neat row beside their grave, and were sacred to the memory of five little brothers of mine - who gave up trying to get a living, exceedingly early in that universal struggle - I am indebted for a belief I religiously entertained that they had all been born on their backs with their hands in their trousers-pockets, and had never taken them out in this state...

...The Moon and Sixpence by W. Somerset Maugham Author of "Of Human Bondage" THE MOON AND SIXPENCE The Moon and Sixpence Chapter I I confess that when first I made acquaintance with Charles Strickland I never for a moment discerned that there was in him anything out of the ordinary. Yet now few will be found to deny his greatness. I do not speak of that greatness which is achieved by the fortunate politician or the successful soldier; that is a quality which belongs to the place he occupies rather than to the man; and a change of circumstances reduces it to very discreet proportions. The Prime Minister out of office is seen, too often, to have been but a pompous rhetorician, and the General without an army is but the tame hero of a market town. The greatness of Charles Strickland was authentic. It may be that you do not like his art, but at all events you can hardly refuse it the tribute of your interest. He 第 1 页 共 129 页 disturbs and arrests. The time has passed when he was an object of ridicule, and it is no longer a mark of eccentricity to defend or of perversity to extol him. His faults are accepted as the necessary complement to his merits. It is still possible to discuss his place in art, and the adulation of his admirers is perhaps no less capricious than the disparagement of his detractors; but one thing can never be doubtful, and that is that he had genius. To my mind the most interesting thing in art is the personality of the artist; and if that is...

...Barack Obama Dreams from My Father “For we are strangers before them, and sojourners, as were all our fathers. 1 CHRONICLES 29:15 PREFACE TO THE 2004 EDITION A LMOST A DECADE HAS passed since this book was first published. As I mention in the original introduction, the opportunity to write the book came while I was in law school, the result of my election as the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. In the wake of some modest publicity, I received an advance from a publisher and went to work with the belief that the story of my family, and my efforts to understand that story, might speak in some way to the fissures of race that have characterized the American experience, as well as the fluid state of identitythe leaps through time, the collision of cultures-that mark our modern life. Like most first-time authors, I was filled with hope and despair upon the book’s publication-hope that the book might succeed beyond my youthful dreams, despair that I had failed to say anything worth saying. The reality fell somewhere in between. The reviews were mildly favorable. People actually showed up at the readings my publisher arranged. The sales were underwhelming. And, after a few months, I went on with the business of my life, certain that my career as an author would be short-lived, but glad to have survived the process with my dignity more or less intact. I had little time for reflection over the next ten years. I ran a voter registration project in...
