...I had no idea that I was going to spend two weeks in the U.A.E until my Dad surprised us. I knew this summer was going to be great and could hardly control my excitement. My uncle came to pick us up at the airport and we headed straight to his house in Sharjah. I spent the whole day resting and later at night, took a stroll outside. On the second day, I went to the Mall of the Emirates, where my parents did a bit of shopping, then to the park for a picnic and later to Ajman. There are a lot of Indian and Filipino immigrants, but once inside a mall you can only see Americans, Britons or Arabs. I went to the Sharjah Aquarium which is a delightful place. There are a variety of fish, tortoises, sea horses, starfish and other marine creatures. That day, a small tremor shook our neighbourhood and all the residents came out on to the streets, while I took a video! The next day, we went to China Mall, where a lot of gadgets such as cell phones, tabs and other electronic devices are available. One can also buy Chinese clothing from there. My favourite day was when I visited The Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa and the splendid fountain outside. Dubai looks most beautiful at night. Burj Khalifa doesn’t look like a colossal building when you see it from afar. But when you look at it up close, it will leave you flabbergasted by its massiveness and structure. Later I went to Fujairah where we sped through the highway in the middle of the desert, rocky hills looming on both sides. You can see...

I will present my conclusions. Slide 3: Women and Economic Development Woman’s participation is very important for economic development. In developed countries like the USA, Germany etc. women contribute over half of the GDP. In developing countries, women participation is also very high, especially in export sector. e.g. China, Thailand, Indonesia etc. According to Australian Prime Minister, 180 billion dollars per year can added to the economy by participation of women in Australian economy. Slide 4: Country Trends In this slide, I would like to show women’s participation in workforce in different countries. In the United States, since the 1920, the gap between woman and man participation was very wide. It is now narrowing down to an extent where women and men would equally participate in the workforce. In the second graph, countries like Denmark and Sweden have over 70% of their women are employed. This high participation is seen in Canada, Britain, US and all other developed countries. Slide 5: Contribution to Development This graph shows...

...History The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven states that has grown from a quiet backwater to one of the Middle East's most important economic centres. The UAE’s rich history is rooted in trade and tied to Islam, which came to the region in AD 630. Its location between Europe and the Far East attracted merchants from India and China and was prized by Europeans, in particular the Portuguese, the Dutch and the British. While Europeans sought control of the coasts, inland, the ancestors of the Bedouin made the sandy deserts of Abu Dhabi and Dubai their home. The town of Abu Dhabi became an important center. In the 19th century, the British signed a series of agreements with the individual emirates that resulted in the area becoming known as “The Trucial States.” They agreed not to dispose of any territory except to the United Kingdom and not to enter into relationships with any foreign government other than the United Kingdom without its consent. In return, the British promised to protect the coast from all aggression by sea and to help in case of land attack. The pearling industry thrived in 19th and early 20th centuries, providing income and employment to the people of the Gulf. Many inhabitants were semi-nomadic, pearling in the summer and tending date gardens in the winter. But the economic depression in the late 1920s and early 1930s, coupled with the Japanese invention of the cultured pearl, irreparably damaged the industry. New Beginnings In the early...

The report then goes on to cover such issues as the interactions between males and females, issues that can arise due to religious obligations such as prayer 5 times a day and the holy month of Ramadan. Other issues such as how the Arab culture run business in a much more personal manner than in western culture, and how building personal relationships and trust are much more important than the efficiency of getting a project completed. Also covered is how the Arab culture value spoken agreements over written agreements, how a meeting in the United Arab Emirates might take place and how a foreign businessman might react or act in those meetings. Finally negotiation was covered and then a conclusion of what I learnt and my final thoughts. When I started this assignment, I wanted to learn about a country that was rich in culture but was also at the forefront of international business.
