...I read the article; "Immodest Government" by 'Michael Tanner' on the National Review website. The article appears to be written from a mostly conservative point of view. The author references the recent incident with the Missouri Senate candidate Representative Todd Akin’s comments on “legitimate” rape but focuses on Representative Akin’s refusal to drop out of the Senate race because according to Akin his election is important to “the cause”. The author writes about how Representative Akin has been essentially disowned by every major republican but still claims that he has “been called” to lead the people. The author goes on to describe this type of behavior as politician’s “messianic ego”, how they believe that since they are “called” to serve then they will do what they need to do to keep themselves in that power position even if that calls for them voting for things they know are wrong and degrading their opponents just to name a few examples.
