Effective Communication in Health Care
Effective model of communication entails five main features; the source, the recipient, the message, the medium, and response. All these elements are necessary in an effective communication in order to deliver information in a way such that the intended meaning is achieved. Moreover the response from the recipient largely depends on the manner in which the message has been conveyed. There is therefore serious need for these elements to be properly incorporated in an effective communication.
Basic elements of communication are incorporated in effective communication through various ways. Messages should be delivered in a simple, clear and understandable way. Proper non-verbal cues should go along in line with the language and the tone used. The sender should understand the nature of his audience. This enables him to break down the information into steps which can easily be understood by his recipient. All messages must be tweaked in a manner that will meet the desires of the recipient. The receiver on the other hand should be a good listener. This can only be done by setting aside negative attitudes, prejudice and other factors which may blur the message. They should be able to listen and integrate the message so as to come up with the intended meaning. The channel used in conveying the message should be continuous, without obstructions or interruptions. Feedback is the indicator to show
