Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) is the leading milk company in the Philippines. It has consistently maintained its leadership in the canned liquid milk category (evaporated and sweetened condensed), thus, paving the way into growing Alaska into a mega-brand by competing in the powdered, ready-to-drink, and creams market, among others. In 2007, AMC further expanded its liquid milk portfolio by licensing Carnation and Milkmaid from Nestle and acquiring Alpine, Liberty and Krem-Top. ...The Alaskan Native and Health Promotion The Alaskan Native and Health Promotion In the United States in 2013 there were 11.2 million American Indians and Alaska Natives nation wide representing approx. 2% of the population. The state with the highest population percentage of natives was Alaska, with 134,361 accounting for 14.3% of the population (United States Census Bureau. 2013). It is this group that is going to be focused on now in this paper because of the unique issues and barriers that are found in attempting health promotion within this minority. Many different problems arise when attempting change in the region ranging from education levels, large cultural differences, geological isolation, and substance abuse. There is a strong and deep-seated lack of trust towards anyone who is not from the area because of past mistakes and abuses. The medical profession to this day is still regarded as a possible threat instead of an asset especially by the older population. What level of health promotion prevention will work best to facilitate the changes needed in Alaskan Native health? The current health status of Alaska natives is well below the national average in a multitude of ways. It has improved markedly in the past couple of decades but still needs considerable attention. Alaska

...Introduction ALASKA MILK CORPORATION is one of the leading manufacturers of milk products in the Philippines. It has established a strong brand heritage among Filipino consumers with its traditional liquid canned milk products marketed under the Alaska label. The Company has likewise established a strong presence in the powdered milk business and a growing position in the UHT ready-to-drink and ready-to-use segments. Alaska Milk Corporation began its corporate life in 1972 as Holland Milk Products, Inc. (HOMPI). HOMPI was a partnership between Holland Canned Milk B.V., a dairy company in the Netherlands, and General Milling Corp. (GMC), an agro-industrial foods company founded by Mr. Wilfred Uytengsu Sr. with interests in flour, animal feeds, soybean milling and consumer food products. In 1988, HOMPI was merged into GMC’s corporate structure and operated as a milk division. By 1994, the milk division was spun off as a separate company, now known as Alaska Milk Corporation or “AMC”. With the growth of the domestic milk market and the need to expand production capacities, AMC tapped the capital market and became a publicly listed company in the Philippine Stock Exchange in 1995. The final move in the creation of AMC came with the absorption of its exclusive distributor in 1998, providing the company with the necessary leverage to grow its core milk business. The Company has further strengthened its core business by acquiring / licensing...

Native American Environmental Issues

...Native American Environmental Issues Traditionally Native Americans have had an immediate and reciprocal relationship with their natural environments. At contact, they lived in relatively small groups close to the earth. They defined themselves by the land and sacred places, and recognized a unity in their physical and spiritual universe. Their cosmologies connected them with all animate and inanimate beings. Indians moved in a sentient world, managing its bounty and diversity carefully lest they upset the spirit "bosses," who balanced and endowed that world. They acknowledged the power of Mother Earth and the mutual obligation between hunter and hunted as coequals. Indians celebrated the earth's annual rebirth and offered thanks for her first fruits. They ritually addressed and prepared the animals they killed, the agricultural fields they tended, and the vegetal and mineral materials they processed. They used song and ritual speech to modify their world, while physically transforming that landscape with fire and water, brawn and brain. They did not passively adapt, but responded in diverse ways to adjust environments to meet their cultural as well as material desires. The pace of change in Indian environments increased dramatically with Euroamerican contact. Old World pathogens and epidemic diseases, domesticated plants and livestock, the disappearance of native flora and fauna, and changing resource use patterns altered the physical and cultural landscape of the New World...

Fast Food Marketing

...Slowly Killing Our Children Calli Soesbe Composition 2 Slowly Killing Our Children Children and teens see all different kinds of fast food marketing strategies everywhere. From television ads, internet ads, cell phones, magazines and so many other ways it’s astonishing. Fast food restaurants make sure that they use toys that are popular at the time to market to children so that they will want to get the happy meal with the toy like a doll or an action figure. If a new movie is coming out then the fast food restaurants make sure they get the toys for that movie. They have both girls and boys toys. Fast food restaurants also like to use flashy ads to draw kids to want their food. Over 10 billion dollars are spent on advertising to children. Fast food places need to cut back on the advertising would be very beneficial. They know that children are a big influence on what their parent buy for food. On average children view over 40,000 commercials a year, which are mostly for candy, cereal, toys, and fast foods. A lot of the time parent will not object to the idea of getting something fast and easy so that they do not have to cook themselves. The advantage of the silent films is that they provided inexpensive entertainment and also overcame the verbal barriers for immigrants who had had just migrated to America in the early 1920s.
